Stu played a full 90 in the league cup tonight. Bolton also beat a near first-team Villa squat at Villa Park.

Holden out six more months.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/29/sports/soccer/an-injury-setback-for-stuart-holden.html

Is Freddy Adu going to get a look under Klinsmann. He seemed to be playing decent as Bradley's reign ended.

Didn't he get hurt recently at Philly?

I agree he should get a look if healthy, especially since Torres is out for a bit

It's on Univision, too. That's broadcast.

1-0 USA on a great shot by Deuce.

To be fair about attendance, it's pouring out there.

Klinsmann doesn't believe in permanent squad numbers. Starters wear 1-11 based on position.

finally finished it on DVR...

Dempsey is a straight up baller. The Shea/Chandler partnership will be gold. Williams had a nice debut. What happened to Edu? I used to think he was so smooth but Bradley's an obvious upgrade, IMO

agreed. I've always liked Edu in the middle. We need someone in the middle who can control and distribute the ball especially if we are going to stick with Beckerman as a defensive midfielder. Bradley is a little better on the attack IMO.

Also, I don't understand the fascination with Orozco Fiscal. He has done nothing to impress me so far. Maybe it's just the fact that we don't have any other options, but if he is the best option we have as a central defender with Boco then we are in trouble.

starting lineup pretty much the same as the last game with exception of Onyewu is in for Orozco-Fiscal. Kind of wish we would see Bradley in there instead of Edu but also glad to see Williams get another look. He looked pretty solid last game.

[Edited on October 11, 2011 at 8:57 PM. Reason : Dempsey must wish he was born a few miles south. He's way too good for this team.]

Beckerman/Edu were shockingly bad.

Aside from Dempsey, our best player was Gooch. And that makes me kind of sad.

Because it's a meaningless friendly against Ecuador 3 days after a game. and because we know what Boca/Gooch bring as a CB pairing

The problem isn't that he made the sub, it's that Ream is terrible.

I'm not worried about the lack of scoring to be honest. We scored plenty under Bradley in what was most often a defensive lineup.

I can now see Dempsey as a second forward just isn't going to work. We don't see enough of the ball in the midfield to get it to him higher up the field so he's naturally going to drift back to get more of it and leave our sucky lone forward up top. We need somebody with speed to be effective as a second forward and who doesn't necessarily need to the ball at his feet the majority of the time. Agudelo definitely. Donovan? Shea?

France isn't exactly killin' fools and our defense seems pretty tight lately. Plus, I think they're planning on playing a lot of young players.

Don't get me wrong, I think we will get dominated in most areas but I'm not expecting us to lose 5-0 or anything.

Yeah I saw that France is actually going to be trying out a lot of their younger players and Nasri and Gourcoff are both not playing.

I'm trying to be optimistic and Klinnsman hasn't had both Donovan and Dempsey together on the field yet... Why am I reading Beckerman might start again?!

The initial excitement from this guy has worn off, IMO. After his first good performance, he hasn't shown me much in the most recent friendlies.

yeah but he's the future after Donovan/Dempsey. So it's exciting that he's shown he can actually do something at the international level already.

I read that he wiill be training with Arsenal for a month.

What did he show after that first game?? I've tried to watch most of their friendlies since Klinsman took over and all I've seen is Brek constantly lose one-on-ones and not be able to finish (like the rest of the team sans Donovan). It's a serious question, because I'm sure I've missed a game or two.

He's got the pace/size needed to make a difference, first of all. He's got the confidence to take guys on, shoot, etc that a lot of players don't have. He reminds me of Dempsey in that regard. Dempsey has always tried to do the spectacular and it came off as too ambitious/cocky/wasteful when he was coming up but now he's probably the most creative attacking player we've ever had. Not saying Shea is the next Dempsey but I think he will become a similar threat soon enough.

Watch him for a bit off the ball and see how much more intelligent he is than somebody like Jozy. His runs open up space and create so much more than Jozy who basically backs into the box from about 40 yards out in a straight line.

I'm not crowning his ass or anything but it's a breath of fresh air for us.

** I agree that he's been somewhat anonymous in the last few friendlies. I'm just saying I don't think he's a flash in the pan or got lucky in his first few appearances.
