...So, if any musicians from the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area read this board, please contact the Chop Shop in Charlotte if you're interested in playing out that way. A friend just opened up the venue, it's super nice and they'd love to get all kinds of new acts and touring bands from all over. [Edited on May 23, 2011 at 9:30 PM. Reason : k]

i forgot to askis that actually going to be a rhys chatham piece, or an original along those lines
5/27/2011 12:39:53 PM
i have another question about the rhys chatham thingi always thought it was pronounced reese, is it pronounced similar to rice/rise? I'm just wondering because of the "triangle rising" pun.
5/27/2011 12:45:55 PM
I just found out its pronounced Reese so I guess we screwed that up. I'm blaming Andy for that one 4 original movements with each movement lasting approximately 15 minutes. Guitarists will be setup in a circle with amps facing the center. Audience and the 2 directors are in the middle of it all. Exactly like the hurricane motif. There will be a drummer and cellist on stage. There will be a few mo tucker beats.
5/27/2011 12:56:51 PM
i wasn't going to say anything about the pronunciation (mostly because i wasn't sure, just guessing from gruff rhys/rhys millen)anyway, GOOD TIMES
5/27/2011 12:58:09 PM
tschudi, myself and many others opened a show for that dude once. he's a wacko.
5/27/2011 1:47:25 PM
I think I was there for that too, but I didn't stay for the rest of the show.

5/31/2011 10:12:53 PM
and, sold.
6/1/2011 11:47:58 AM
Definitely going to Moogfest this year. Without a doubt.
6/1/2011 7:22:56 PM
god damnit, it's like i have some cosmic fucking curse against me ever seeing future islands.i've been wanting to see them the last 2 years, and every single time, something happens. work obligations, weddings, there's always something. so, tonight was going to finally be the night, and then my friend had a cat hit in front of her house and she was trying to help find the owner/wait on animal control, and we arrived late.good karma, but bad timing. at least i saw the titus andronicus and okkervil river, but my quest to see future islands continues. it was good seeing vinylbandit and others, as usual.
6/2/2011 2:07:57 AM
To me, Okkervil River was just OK. I thought both opening bands were better, which I anticipated the minute the show was announced. Titus Andronicus definitely solidified their reputation as one of my top 5 favorite bands right now period. Got to meet Patrick Stickles and chat with him a bit when I left Okkervil after eight or so songs. Asked him about Shane MacGowan/The Pogues; his quick response: "Fuck that guy. I still love that band, but fuck them."Also, he just about lost it when I brought up Spider Bags. Seems like they really are his favorite band.[Edited on June 2, 2011 at 3:07 PM. Reason : .]

http://www.freepresssummerfest.com/lineup.phpshould i go to this on the free or noti'm leaning against itthe only band on there i've not seen that i'm interested in is fucked up.i guess the ~$45 ticket isnt that bad, if i didnt have a free one.
6/2/2011 3:14:55 PM
^yeah dude, you should go. i'd totally go to that if it was free, especially if i didn't have to pay a ton for travel and a hotel roomnot sure if you've seen em already, but cut copy, big boi, yeasayer, sharon jones, and neon indian are all a lot of fun
6/2/2011 3:19:31 PM
yeah it's down the street[Edited on June 2, 2011 at 3:22 PM. Reason : guess i havent seen big boi either, forgot]
6/2/2011 3:22:28 PM
I had to leave 6 songs into Okkervil River but I was already dead tired after sobering up in the heat since 8:15. Titus Andronicus just had so much energy it was hard for me to put the little I had left into Okkervil River. 3 bands is too much for me. I'm too old for this shit. First time I have seen a mosh pit in a while but I don't go to that many shows. "Four Score and Seven" was awesome. I was really hoping they would bring out a bagpipe and do "The Battle of Hampton Roads".It was kinda strange passing the frontman for Titus Andronicus throwing a football in the parking lot. I thought that was him when I passed him (how could you mistake that beard) but he looked bigger in the videos. What a tiny guy haha.

6/2/2011 11:42:20 PM
Yeah, the only standout track from The Monitor that they didn't play was "Theme from 'Cheers.'" IIRC, they didn't play a single song off of The Airing of Grievances, but I could be misremembering that.
6/2/2011 11:52:33 PM
Pretty sure they played "Upon Viewing Brueghel's 'Landscape With the Fall of Icarus'," but I could be wrong.
6/3/2011 12:07:52 AM
Shoot me for saying it, but all of Okkervil River's 30 or so albums have no distinction from one another, and I'm surprised that people are surprised about them being upstaged by two energetic, crowd-interactive bands. I mean honestly I can't even distinguish the damned covers to an Okkervil album...
6/3/2011 12:12:02 AM
I wouldn't say I'm surprised, as I was worried about Okkervil keeping up with the energy as soon as the bill was announced, but I was hoping that they'd take the emotional intensity that exists in a lot of their music and translate it to their performance. They didn't. Perhaps as the tour continues they'll step it up, especially after public call-outs like this one: http://www.ifc.com/news/2011/06/okkervil-river-titus-tour.php
6/3/2011 12:14:34 AM
just got back from the okkervil river show in DC. the crowd was more into them than titus andronicus and future islands. not that people weren't having a good time during titus. they were. they just seemed to enjoy okkervil more. geography i guess.and titus andronicus only played songs from the monitor here. i was disappointed that they didn't play "a pot in which to piss"[Edited on June 3, 2011 at 12:30 AM. Reason : monitor]

hopesfall tickets already purchased. Show will be epic. That era of hopesfall is still one of my all time favorite bands. I was obsessed with them about 10 years ago haha.
6/3/2011 2:48:44 PM
anyone know much about the set up for the free Love Language show tonight?i don't give a rats ass about any of the early bands, and don't care about The Connells either --- i'd just like to slide in to see The Love Language and get the hell out, but i question my odds.[Edited on June 3, 2011 at 3:04 PM. 6/3/2011 3:01:23 PM
The best free Love Language show was at that coffee shack in Carrboro, where it was cold, about to rain any second and they played on the back of a truck I think. The wind was causing the entire "stage" to shake. I call this the best because it was a travesty. And I'm sure they all have health insurance anyway, so pointless, also...

i hope this helps the dominos fall towards a Beloved reunion show. this would be pinnacle of my life.
6/3/2011 6:21:40 PM
yeah I thought about that today haha. It would pretty much feel like HS all over again seeing codeseven, hopesfall, and beloved together on a show.
6/3/2011 6:35:29 PM
don't you guys ever, you know, not keep liking bands you liked in high school? there are plenty of emo/screamo type bands that I liked in high school as well, but then I grew up and realized that shit really did not age well, even though it will always hold a certain nostalgic place in my heart. I mean... I have no need to ever listen to a Jimmy Eat World or Get Up Kids CD again, nevermind go to their shows, but I'm ok with knowing that I loved both bands at one point and that they brought me a lot of enjoyment in my younger days. (I also realize this is a pretty douchey post, but whatev)
6/3/2011 7:21:41 PM
Just personal differences. Some people's tastes change and they don't enjoy the previous stuff much, other people latch onto new music and still enjoy the old all the same. I know plenty of people in both categories. For me there are certainly some bands I have liked over the years that I don't enjoy now but for the most part, especially a band I was really into, I still enjoy most of it. I obviously listen to many of them less than I used to or might not get into their newer stuff, but outside of that I dono. I guess I just haven't "outgrown" a lot of things. For example, I don't really enjoy the new Jimmy Eat World albums much, but I still think Clarity is a great record and listened to it last week. I went and saw Sunny Day Real Estate and The Get Up Kids last year and had a blast and still listen to them here and there. There's no time limit on stuff for me. If I liked it a lot at one point, I probably still like it. Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, and deftones were some of my favorite bands in 6th grade and still are. I went through a period of time in HS where Pavement, Built to Spill, The Dismemberment Plan, etc. were all I was listening to and I still listen to them on a pretty regular basis.I obviously still consume tons of new music but I'm not ashamed to enjoy my roots music either. Not saying you are at all, but I know plenty of people who would stand there and tell me to my face they never liked the deftones because it would seem uncool to the crowd of people we were hanging out with when they were rocking a deftones windbreaker in '96. It's one thing to not like someone anymore; some peoples' tastes do change over time. But some people don't admit to liking a band just to save face too.[Edited on June 3, 2011 at 8:51 PM. Reason : ]

Not sure if this has been posted anywhere, but The Tea Party have reunited to pay a few shows this year. Of course, just about all of them are in Canada, save for one---in Lockport, NY on July 22nd, FOR FREE!Realllllly tempting to make it up there for that!

Tickets for the second Archers show just went online. I got two!
6/4/2011 10:01:42 AM
^^^ word, I feel you on all that. and I definitely know the people that are too cool to admit what they liked at one point as well. don't really see why, but it happens.- heads up for people that want to go to that Rosebuds show next week, it's pretty much sold out online but there are still a bunch of tickets left at Schoolkids
