so my GF and i are thinking about getting a Wii..with the following games..that surgeon gametiger woodswii play (that game that comes with an extra remote).now are these really that good of games? i dont want to get it and tiger woods is pretty crappy with using the remote and stuff.
3/18/2007 5:58:49 PM
Instead of Wii Play, I'd buy the extra remote separately and pick up Rayman or Wario Ware. A lot more bang for your buck IMO.
3/18/2007 6:48:18 PM
wii play is awesome, a couple of those games have a lot of replay value (ping pong, pool, air hockey). that and wii sports are all i really play.^oh i do have wario ware and that is some pretty fun shit[Edited on March 18, 2007 at 6:49 PM. Reason : ]

wii play is worth the $10 over a controller, lots of drunk replay value
3/18/2007 8:11:47 PM
the surgeon game is boring as shiti may be willing to sell my wii if you want to save some money

Are wiimotes still hard to find? I saw a shit ton of them (with nunchucks and classic controllers) at the Best Buy out by Southpoint Mall.]
3/19/2007 8:17:17 PM
I guess that mean they aren't hard to find.
3/20/2007 11:08:12 AM
lt looks like prices have gone up again on ebay, this shit has gotten crazy at this point.....looks like there might be lines every sunday morning for some time now, until people are unwilling to pay 350-375 for a system, there will be no shortage of people willing to wait and buy as many wii's as possible to resell
3/20/2007 12:19:02 PM
this i nuts....i never thought that the Wii would have this following.....suck it PS3

I love that the Wii is getting the sales, but hopefully that will correlate into quality software. The tiger woods is a game that I was really looking forward to, but now I hesitate to even mess with it because of the horrible reviews its getting. How could EA and Nintendo let such a touted release be such a dissappointment due to the very thing that makes the Wii attractive : the in-game controls ?!?!I hope this isnt a prominent trend for the Wii or the happy times will turn sad real quick.....
3/22/2007 12:31:20 PM
I think customers + developers are slowly going to realize that the wii remote, while a great concept, doesn't always translate to great gameplay.I'm glad the Wii started out with such a (unexpected) bang, but I'm afraid the gleam is going to fade in the long term. And then you're left with an underpowered box.Granted, there WILL be some killer titles (probably mostly developed by Nintendo). There will also be lots of gimmicky, me-too type games like we are already seeing. Hmmm... I swear this type of thing has happened before with another small squarish console...
3/22/2007 1:07:27 PM
i disagree that the wiimote is a disadvantage. if tiger woods played like wii golf (or even better) with the depth and custimization of the rest of the wii games, it'd have been amazingpeople just need to really buy into wii and make solid games.
3/22/2007 1:13:13 PM
People bitching about the remote: It ISNT a fad. There are a lot of games that greatly benefit from the remote. What you arent seeing is that the Wiimote out there now is version 1.0. I am sure they are going to build a better remote, with more advanced sensors, especially since the first version was so popular. It will probably mean people can buy a better remote a year from now with better movement tracking.

3/22/2007 2:19:41 PM
^^That's not going to happen. Nintendo is not going to put out a newer better remote to replace all the ones they just sold a year ago.ssclark: I'm not saying the wiimote is a disadvantage, per se. It's just that I think a lot of mediocre games will get green-lighted just b/c of shoddy wiimote functionality. We are already seeing a ton of this, and the system is brand new.[Edited on March 22, 2007 at 3:07 PM. Reason : d]
3/22/2007 3:06:00 PM
there are always terrible games. i dont think thats new to any console. and i dont think he was saying nintendo would replace everyone's old controllers. they could put out a newer version and people would buy them to replace their own.
3/22/2007 3:15:13 PM
the "masses" that Nintendo is reaching with this console are not going to buy an upgraded remote a year from now... sorry. And what if they did? Then do you start coding the games with that remote in mind? What about everyone who has the standard controller. It would be a bad move anyway you slice it.
3/22/2007 3:18:19 PM
who knows...all i was sayin was that you misunderstood what he was sayingand i think you're wrong on the first point. you dont think these people campin out for hours in their nintendo t-shirts wouldnt buy a better controller?[Edited on March 22, 2007 at 3:19 PM. Reason : .]
3/22/2007 3:19:16 PM
The Nintendo fanboys aren't the target demographic with this console. They have repeatedly stated they are after "non-gamers". non-gamers aren't going to be rushing out to buy an updated controller.Nintendo fanboys would buy a piece of shitty toilet paper if the smear even slightly resembled a triforce, that's not the point. And no, I didn't misunderstand what he was saying at all. I said Nintendo will not replace their controller in a year. Meaning they will not release an updated controller with the intent of having ALL their users buy it as a replacement for the old. This is the final Wiimote, for better or worse. It has exceeded some of my expecations, but left me dissapointed in other areas. It's NOT going to be improved on, at least until the next gen.[Edited on March 22, 2007 at 3:24 PM. There is no way (from a business quality assurance perspective) that nintendo will release new wiimote hardware. However, you can almost guarantee that the Wiimote firmware will be upgraded in the future. That way you can support games that use both versions and it can be adjustable through the system without any hardware changes. Its obvious that the differences between Wii sports golf and Twoods golf are software based because they use the same Wiimote hardware and firmware. When nintendo fixes enough significant bugs in the original firmware for the Wiimote then the software developers will have to account for that. (and I imagine we will have to download the upgrade through the Wii shop channel like we do for main Wii sytem upgrades)My dissappointment is with the software developers (like EA w/ Twoods) for not improving their wiimote sensing code sufficiently before release. The blame then partially bleeds onto nintendo for allowing developers (who they know are making games that make or break your game system's credibility) to release games with crappy Wiimote sensing code without making sure the quality is up to previously set standards. I was under the impression that Twoods would improve upon the Wii sports golf Wiimote sensing code and that is not a negative aspect the Wii (or nintendo) can afford to absorb at this point.[Edited on March 22, 2007 at 3:31 PM. ^^k whatever.^yea, wii golf feels a lot better than tiger woods, which is obviously software. EA sports has been pretty lame lately, so i dont know why i expected better. madden's good on the wii, but its basically exception when it comes to good ea sports over the last 3 or 4 years on any system.[Edited on March 22, 2007 at 3:39 PM. picked up the godfather today. played it for about 45 minutes so far and im very impressed. i neverp layed the gtas a whole lot but i imagine its very similar. never played the other godfatehrs either, but the using the wii controls to beat people to bloody pulps is great.

I think those of you that think Nintendo can't release a new better remote are wrong. It doesnt have to screw anyone. You can simply come out with a WiiMote enhanced, and new games can be programmed to use the old or new remote. But I only say this because the controller sensing, while good, isnt there yet. If the sensors that are in the new remote are great, and the programmers just arent using them correctly yet, then we'll probably just have to wait a little time before they figure it out. But this is no different than you buying a racing steering wheel, flight stick, hand yoke, foot pedals, or any other of the 100s of interfaces out there to play a game that you could simply play with a keyboard or a few buttons. It is in Nintendo's interest to make the controller as good as possible, and not screw people by waiting for a new platform to introduce the new controller.
3/23/2007 11:11:10 AM
Yeah.. I think the only reason the reviews for tiger woods are a little lower is because people were expecting some kind of crazy real-life golf simulation or something..At the end of the day, it's a tiger woods golf game. It feels a lot like other tiger woods golf games, only controlled differently. I personally prefer the wii controller for this game after spending more time with it.People just have to realize it's the same game as the other analog stick tiger woods games, but controlled using the remote instead of the analog stick. And it's a lot of fun[Edited on March 23, 2007 at 11:30 AM. Reason : :-!]
3/23/2007 11:29:38 AM
Tiger could have solved all problems if it just had 1 to 1 control like wii golf. When I play tiger on 360 with the analog sticks, I can control the strength of my shot by taking a half swing, you can't really do that with the wii accurately. that is the annoying part.that being said, the game isn't that bad once you get used to all the idiosyncrasies. I REALLY hope they listen to the feedback before the next release.
3/23/2007 12:46:39 PM
i have a feeling the success of the Wii snuck up on a lot of people. I expect really good games 6 months to a year from now.
3/23/2007 1:21:40 PM
I am getting one hopefully by the end of April...I'll have the 360 for sports/Halo 3/more in depth games... and the wii for crazy/drunken/girls can play/fun gamesCan't wait!

^^^^^ I would agree with you, but I dont know enough about the actual hardware sensors and transmitters in the Wiimote. Im assuming that the hardware is fairly simple and that the firmware and software code does most of the work that is so unique to the Wii. I could definitely see them releasing Wiimotes with more powerful (and thus accurate) transmitters, but as far as adding complimentary functional hardware to the Wiimote, I am not sure that will happen. They can update/patch the firmware through WiiWare anytime they want, so its not really that complicated for the user. That being said, it is very "nintendo" to try and squeeze more $$ out of us in ways we never thought of before....^^^^ If more ppl had your take on Twoods I would already own it. Thanks for some positive outlook.[Edited on March 23, 2007 at 2:11 PM. Reason : ^]
3/23/2007 2:11:27 PM
The wiimote hardware isnt a problem. Its too accurate if anything. Its the coding thats a problem.
3/23/2007 2:44:40 PM
imo madden is a lot better on wii than ps3 :x
3/23/2007 2:45:58 PM
I think Tiger is a great game. I am frustrated with a few things, though... I seem to only be able to hook and hit straight, but not slice. I also have a very difficult time getting a good swing with moderate power (50-75%). The inability to have controlled slices makes it very very difficult to get through the skill stages. I am on the one now that requires a 300 to pass.[Edited on March 23, 2007 at 2:50 PM. Reason : .]
3/23/2007 2:47:44 PM
yeah, i have heard that sometimes it will even swing the club when you are perfectly still...is this true? I really hope that Nintendo upgrades the Wiimote to be more precise!
3/23/2007 3:06:42 PM
I know Wii Golf was hard, I'd be swinging back and it would swing through, could never figure that out.
3/23/2007 3:09:07 PM
It is WAY over-sensitive in tiger. It feels like they didnt code any kind of smoothing filter on the raw movement data.Ive got it to the point in tiger where I can reliably hit a controlled shot at around 85-90%, but anything above that always hooks/slices.
