I could be wrong but 4 tbsp of peanut butter a day sounds like a lot
7/14/2011 9:44:12 PM
apparently you aren't familiar with double decker pb&j's
7/14/2011 9:58:45 PM
I love peanut butter But it's not really something I keep stocked in the house. I have some almond butter though
7/14/2011 10:04:35 PM
hahah I eat prolly around 4 tbsp for breakfast alone.then a pre-workout snack of another 2-4 tbsp. But i luuuuuuurve PB. But only Peter Pan Honey roasted. Everything else is unacceptable

I just counted my calories. I consume 1990 calories a day.. lol. I weigh 210. Is that too many calories? Should I go down to like 1700?
7/14/2011 10:26:09 PM
For a while I was getting organic peanut butter but given that I use it in my protein shakes as well as eating a spoonful or two in order to take my creatine pills before and after my workout but it just got too expensive. So I went with the Food Lion brand and it really isn't too bad.
7/14/2011 10:28:53 PM
yum, had a DDPB&J last week so starting this weekend gonna be switching things up into mega workout mode!! I'll be done w/school, have all the free time in the world, def gonna turn my body into a sexy machine!!^^hey idk how tall you are or your age, but if i'm consistently eating 1900cals/day i'm going to lose weight. I'm 6'4" and 205. To maintain i need 2200-2400. If i'm going 2500+ tho im usually adding on pounds. But if i'm lifting >3x/week I really have no choice but to cram food down and gain weight [Edited on July 14, 2011 at 10:51 PM. Reason : advice]
7/14/2011 10:49:03 PM
How can you even be satisfied on 1,000 a day?
7/14/2011 10:53:56 PM
^^ 5'10 37yo
7/14/2011 11:21:51 PM
well i wasnt done for the day at 1000, that was to that point 1000.now I am sitting at 1800. still about a 1000 left.and I dunno, im eating really clean so my body doesnt get many calories out of what I eat I guess...but it fills me up since its high fiber and protein.
7/14/2011 11:47:16 PM
^ The food list you made makes it seem like you need more good fat. The only sources you listed were almonds and eggs (assuming you eat whole eggs). Add more nuts/nut butters, avocado, olive oil, etc. Fat is awesome.
7/15/2011 12:03:46 AM
I use about a tablespoon of olive oil on the pan when I do the eggs.every now and then I do some organic peanut butter.I figured I was good on the good fat.
7/15/2011 12:04:59 AM
ok so ur a little shorter and older, ur DMR is probably less than mine, but maybe 100-200 cals lower, max.ya dude, nobody should be lifting/working out and consuming only 1000/day. It's counterproductive. Double down on everything you eat, still super healthy, you won't be as hungry, and it's 2000 cals [Edited on July 15, 2011 at 12:06 AM. Reason : meh]
7/15/2011 12:05:18 AM
lolim not at 1000.im just under 2000 right now. its calling for about 2800 though which is...gonna be fun.my stomach has def. shrunk in the past month but...o well. gotta eat more obviously.
7/15/2011 12:19:19 AM
all i will say is that when i put in my height, weight, how much i wanted to lose, etc, daily plate was telling me i should only eat 893 calories a day max. i believe at the time i put in i was 5'4 (because duh i am), i was around 150 pounds at the time and i wanted to get down to maybe 135-140 so nothing extreme but still i knew 900 calories for me for an entire day is bullcrap.right now i am at 139 pounds - reaching for 130-135 and i just listen to what my body wants. thankfully i like really healthy food so that works to my benefit. lots of fruits, veggies, lean meats, a few healthy carbs thrown in there, lots of fiber and healthy fats. i know people say not to weigh yourself daily but i do because if i notice my weight has gone up a bit (like it did this morning from 138.8 to 139.0) i can adjust what i'm eating for the day to make sure it starts to move back down again. i believe my weight crept up that tiny amount because i ate quite a bit of cheese yesterday (more than i normally do) so today i'm going to try not to eat any dairy (most days i don't anyways) because it makes me feel bloated and gives me some stomach issues.
7/15/2011 8:03:28 AM
i aim for ~15x target body weight in calories and 1.5x target body weight in protein...fats/carbs are kept all natural and GIs targeted

Apparently broccoli will make you fat and you should eat chips instead. http://fitbie.msn.com/eat-right/tips/5-worst-beach-body-foods?GT1=50002
7/15/2011 9:27:17 AM
you mean:
7/15/2011 9:36:38 AM
Also, they're not saying "make you fat" ... it's talking about foods that make you bloated. And yeah, broccoli will make you bloated and the ranch dressing will make you retain water.
7/15/2011 9:39:22 AM
Yes, but vilifying broccoli and saying you should eat chips instead ... just not a good idea to me.
7/15/2011 9:42:24 AM
i've read about the broccoli thing a lot recently. i mentioned it to a friend of mine who is big into lifting and i was like, "they tell you it bloats you but it's also considered a super food.......i rather just eat it because a) it's healthy and b) i like eating broccoli dammit." my thing is, no one ever says exactly how much you retain - it could be a minuscule amount. stuff like that makes me mad.....just like the articles people will write up and say, "eat healthy fast food" and they plan an entire day's worth of food out of different drive thru's.
7/15/2011 9:47:29 AM
I think it's important to know which foods cause bloating, particularly if you're getting ready for a big event, like a fitness show or a black-tie affair. That said, it would have been better for them to suggest a similar, but different snack. Like, lettuce wraps or something.
7/15/2011 9:58:15 AM
i feel like healthy fast food is a myth
7/15/2011 10:11:40 AM
well that's what i'm saying, it is a myth and i hate that magazines and different people try to say, "well it's kind of healthy." yeah ok if you want a burger and you're on the road and all you have is mcdonalds and you haven't had one in like 6 months, cool go for it.....enjoy it. but to make people believe they can continue to eat fast food and remain healthy? getoutofhere.[Edited on July 15, 2011 at 10:29 AM. ^I think I know some people in this thread who would judge you and call you a nutjob and accuse you of being super unhealthy because you used a potentially toxic substance to achieve a goal.
7/15/2011 2:21:54 PM
honestly-i think i am. (a nutjob for it)i think it's rather dumb- but in my defense i didn't do it for self gratification(ooOOooooOooohhh look how skinny and tone i look!)......i had to pay the bills i do not claim that its healthy.matter of fact its quite the opposite.and i do not suggest anyone else do it unless you have a bit of monies riding on it. --[Edited on July 15, 2011 at 2:32 PM. ^^ Amen! If I'm working an expo or fitness event, I don't want to look like I've got a bun in the oven. That's an easy way to get on the do-not-rehire list.

umm basically every highschool wrestler dehydrates themselves before matches in order to make weight. it's not healthy but it's not unusual either.of course when chicks do it they get a lot more judgment--eating disorder etc. When guys do it in the context of wrestling it's because they are "tough and disciplined."[Edited on July 15, 2011 at 9:08 PM. Reason : .]
7/15/2011 9:08:26 PM
^ Exactly! And honestly, you go to any bodybuilding contest and I guarantee that every woman and man there is being VERY particular about whether the food that goes into their body will make them retain water or get bloated.
7/15/2011 9:25:52 PM
Yup, wrestling is insane. Most of the men in my family wrestled (I did not, I swam), and I remember my dad telling me about the crazy shit he used to do to cut weight (forced vomiting, taking diuretics and laxatives, etc.) and how horrible he felt pretty much all season long when he wrestled.I'm certainly not going to judge people who do stuff for appearance when your job is to appear a certain way. Granted, it can get taken to the extreme and become a legitimate issue, but on occasion there's nothing wrong with it.
7/15/2011 10:32:08 PM
I'd rather see a person take lasix/aldactoneto dehydrate themselves than go on an alcohol bender / sweat fest in an attempt to dehydrate themselves for cosmetic reasons. Excessively low water levels in the body are very harsh on the heart, kidneys, and liver. If the ultimate goal is to lower water levels in the body to look leaner, then do it in a way that's going to limit the amount of time you expose your body to those conditions.prolonged exposure to a dehydrated state is most likely what killed Andreas Munzer, and millions of kids in other countries die from dehydration caused by diahrrea every year.
7/16/2011 6:51:17 PM
I don't think anyone really disagrees with you there, bodybuilding and modeling seem to be the only two professions that embrace dangerous dehydration.

Heya - 13 lbs lost since April 11th! Slow boat but set to maintain easily. Update pics:I am going to lose at least 6 more and then we'll be good! I've been on the hunt for a standing dip bar (see link). I checked out Dick's, Play It Again Sports, and Omega Sports and none of those places have them. I could order one online but I figured if I could find one in a store, that would work out swell. i have a question for the ladiesdo you guys retain water during your period (or maybe in the middle of the cycle) ?if so when?i swear i feel like a blimp the 2-3 days, sometimes 4-5 before my period and it dwindles down as it ends.i'm sure this will be a collaborative, enthusiastic hell yes from ya'll , but i figure i'd ask [Edited on July 20, 2011 at 9:59 AM. I need to get back on the wagon. One thing I've been struggling with recently is lack of motivation... so I will be trying something new.Specifically, I want to do this:http://www.spartanfitness.net/schedule.htmlMuay Thai Kickboxing! I have wanted to try kickboxing for a while but I think I might try the Muay Thai version before going to a gym and doing just a cardio kickboxing class... I think I would get more mental stimulation from the Muay Thai class (if that makes sense).[Edited on July 20, 2011 at 10:08 AM. Reason : ^ yes, I do.. very much so ]
