the galaxy video calling interface is pretty shitty looking
8/13/2010 4:47:11 PM
its probably been answered, but what sms messaging program is everyone using? the pre-installed one is ok but the widget is very laggy
8/13/2010 4:59:52 PM
I use the stock motoblur one. I'm not a fan of the messaging widget, and haven't used it since the day after i got the phone. I really don't see the point of having it, and it just slows my phone a little bit otherwise serving no purpose.someone posted something about the captivate getting a 1.2 GHz OC kernel, but someone benchmarked it and got this:<!--[Edited on August 13, 2010 at 5:05 PM. hey my friend has a Droid and is going to Europe for a month. He wants to use his GPS on his phone. Are there any pre-loaded GPS apps on android? I searched for Navigon/Garmin/TomTom and nothing came up.
8/14/2010 4:44:57 PM
lost my droid x last nightlooked on lattitude and the last update was off ligon stits dead now
8/14/2010 4:48:28 PM
^ ouch
8/14/2010 5:00:59 PM
"Navigate" is a preloaded GPS app
8/14/2010 5:03:40 PM
^not showing up in the market.
8/14/2010 5:16:32 PM
navigation, ratheri got a DX though, and yeah i dont see it in the market but it's on the phone preloaded
8/14/2010 5:18:41 PM
^navigation is just the regular google one that doesn't have any pre-loaded maps on it. I'm looking for one that as all the European maps preloaded because he obviously won't have data over there.
8/14/2010 5:23:29 PM
8/14/2010 6:07:12 PM
dweedle, navigation (and now places) are short cuts in the app drawer that come stock with google maps, it's not an actual app itself... always been there, they made it easier to get to...

When I ordered mine it said it wouldn't ship until the 23rd but I got notified tonight it was shipping.

so I might have the chance to get a free Droid Incredible. My friend absolutely hates it and is loaded and is willing to part with it for fr33. He says it's the worst phone of all time and is a complete piece of shit and he's going back to the iphone. Is it really THAT bad? Is it worth switching from my Palm Pre (which I have very few complaints with)? I kind of want something new but am not willing to shell out a couple hundred bucks and my upgrade is a year away at least. His complaints:battery life (says it lasts an hour)programs force closecamera freezesphone locks up completely and has to re-insert batteryI went ~6 pages back and didn't see any recent comments on the Incredible. Is Froyo expected to completely change the problems? I'm pretty out of the loop when it comes to Android anyway.
8/15/2010 10:16:27 PM
haha get it, do a factory reset, then profit from his stupidity. The battery life is nothing special, but it should get your through the day
8/15/2010 10:21:12 PM
get it from your friend then sell it to me and profit
8/15/2010 10:23:17 PM
^^^ besides the battery life, I haven't heard those complaints. As far as the battery life goes, it seems like everything I've read has said that getting an extended battery is worth it for the Incredible, but those aren't very expensive. I do know that with the extended battery, most people have said they have no problem making it through the day from what I have read.
8/15/2010 10:25:49 PM
I mean I have a palm pre, which has been known for its own battery problems so I can't imagine it being much worse. I definitely want to try it out at least before i sell it for some greenbacks.
8/15/2010 10:27:55 PM
I have the Incredible (switched from iPhone 3G) and I love it. My only complaint is the stock battery is crap. It would barely last a normal day for me. Go ahead and order the extended battery that I linked a couple pages back and you'll be fine.
8/15/2010 10:36:40 PM
The Incredible is fully rooted and the 2.2 kernel was recently released. I was trying to get one to swap out with my DX but I didn't make it in time. It's a pretty awesome phone. Take it, get the extended battery, root it and then run Ruby on it.

I ordered mine August 5th. At the time, the estimated ship date was August 23rd. Got notified yesterday it had shipped/was shipping today and it is scheduled for delivery this Wednesday August 18th.
8/16/2010 10:25:12 AM
I ordered mine the 11th and got confirm. on the 12th. If the lag time is similar, I'll be looking at a delivery around the 24th, which I can handle that.
8/16/2010 10:36:05 AM
The captivate score was after the ext2 hack as well. I'm getting that score about the same score.
8/16/2010 11:52:43 AM
Who makes the best extended life battery for the Incredible? I like this phone a lot sans the battery hogging.
8/16/2010 12:00:52 PM
^This is the official HTC extended battery for it. I have this one and I love ithttp://store.androidcentral.com/htc-extended-battery-w-door/8A37A6698.htmThe most favored 3rd party one I've seen is by Seido and even then the reviews are hit or miss[Edited on August 16, 2010 at 2:55 PM. Reason : .]

I've been hearing differing opinions on this but i want to get yalls thoughts. As i mentioned before my friend has a droid and is going to Europe. Just like the iPhone it has an aGPS and I use my GPS all the time without cell reception using pre-loaded maps (while hiking etc with preloaded topo maps). I refered him to:
8/16/2010 3:19:50 PM
Mine worked when I didn't have reception (different phone though), at least I don't think I had reception
8/16/2010 5:20:34 PM
^^I haven't tried that myself but I know I've seen an app that will turn off all cell data meaning 3g, edge, whatever (I can't remember the name of it). If you use that and turn off wifi, you might be able to test that. Although it might still be able to triangulate based on your voice signal, I'm not sure if that needs data to work.[Edited on August 16, 2010 at 5:56 PM. Reason : .]
8/16/2010 5:56:10 PM
I went into settings and disabled data and wifi and was able to get a GPS fix using mapdroyd. Looks like you need NavDroyd to get offline turn by turn directions though.
8/16/2010 6:54:41 PM
My X is supposed to get here tomorrow It says signature required though so I might have to try and watch the tracking and be home some tomorrow if I want to get it tomorrow. Then I'll have to start checking out all the stuff people in here talk about For example, I hear everyone talking about Launcher Pro but don't really even know what it is. I have a lot of catching up to do as a first-time smartphone user I think.

i actually feel comfortable with the stock launcher so far
8/17/2010 8:53:10 PM

tired of waiting for it to get here
8/17/2010 9:17:27 PM
i'm iffy about changing launchers - i don't mind the stock one at all...except for the laginess...
8/17/2010 9:18:18 PM
is the lag something that is getting fixed with 2.2 or what?
8/17/2010 9:55:37 PM
The Droid 2 I played with at Verizon today was still laggy as fuck on the home screens. Someone had installed Launcher Pro on one of the Droid X's there and the difference was like night and day.and lol, in regards to the high captivate score from earlier.http://briefmobile.com/cyanogen-demonstrates-quadrants-flaws
