The cop shot someone in the back that was running away from him. He used lethal force when his life was not in danger. He should be charged with murder.

What does it matter what rumfel thinks? The state, who trains these guys like 800 hours, says "oh they pointed a weapon? Dead."
6/15/2020 12:58:19 PM
^^It seems like a pretty "by-the-books" shooting. I wasn't there. I honestly don't know if it was justified or not. Yes, the guy was running away from the cops. They were likely following their training as he had their weapon, fleeing the scene.Does the training need to change? Yes. I think there needs to be a change in how we train our police in these situations. Two things could have completely altered the outcome here.1. They should have actually participated in the community by taking him by his sister's house. It should have never gotten past that point.2. Once he started running, a decision should have been made in the officers head: "We have his name, his address. We let him go, we'll catch up with him later."But on the other hand, the guy was fleeing with a weapon. Should the cops have really let him go?There are a lot of "what if's" here....what if they would have let him go and he ended up at his sister's anyway? What if they had let him go and something happened with him and someone else?At what point do we just stop policing for fear of an incident, any incident, escalating to a shooting such as this then a murder charge?I'm just playing devil's advocate here because everybody is going to jump on this cop because of what's going on at the moment. Does the cop deserve 1st degree murder? I just don't see it here. Maybe 2nd degree or voluntary manslaughter?[Edited on June 15, 2020 at 1:52 PM. Reason : asdfa]

You list two things like there aren't 1000 options in that situation beside shooting him. It's fairly clear the officers life was in no immediate danger. A clear and obvious danger that can't be avoided should be the high bar to clear for a shooting. Even if you want to be a "oakleys on a boat selfie" guy, the cops could have jumped him together and beat him down. That would have still been a garbage response but at least he'd be alive.
6/15/2020 1:58:15 PM
Yeah the options aren’t just 1) shoot him or 2) just leave.

Trump’s EO bans use of the chokehold....except when an officer believes their life is in jeopardy. In other words...this probably won’t do much. Because as we’ve seen over and over officers are always given the benefit of the doubt in that situation.
