Eh...every year is a make or break. He sucks really bad, he's fired. Break. He does okay, he stays. Make.
10/31/2012 1:19:01 PM
pretty sure most years in our history where we didnt get to 8/9 wins we A) didnt play as many games as we do now and B) didnt play two to three games against the sisters of the poor
10/31/2012 4:21:31 PM
Then why does he keep staying when he sucks really bad?

I would love to see some of you work in college athletics. You really would fire a coach at a basketball school about to win 8 games for the third straight year, has a 5-1 record against his rival, and does it cleanly and is widely respected. You as an AD wouldn't last very long my friends. The "majority" of so called fans wanted Paul fucking Johnson. That sure would have worked wonders.

The guy is 20-24 overall in the ACC.Against Non Conference BCS teams (including bowl games) he is 5-7. All 5 wins were from the Big East.Overall BCS level record is 25-31.Facts.

^but you didn't factor in all the foot injuries!
10/31/2012 7:35:13 PM
I thought he was 31-18 in ACC play, got 7, 8, or 9 wins in a 11-12 game season, regularly finished second or third in conference play, regularly went to the Peach or Gator bowls, and finished top-25 multiple seasons.Whoops, I was wrong --It's 20-14 in ACC play, 5-9 wins in a 12-13 game season, 2nd-5th in the Atlantic division, Papajohns bowl, and ranked 25 once.[Edited on October 31, 2012 at 9:04 PM. Had a dream we lost to Wake 70-33.
10/31/2012 10:17:46 PM
i had a dream last night, and towards the end of it, i swung through the bojangles drivethrough for a 2-piece combo with seasoned fries...it was kind of weird though because in the drive through line, there was a big semi-truck blocking most of it, like it was delivering chicken or something...i somehow drove around it but had to wait for it to move...it backed out, allowing me to get to the menu/speaker...in hindsight it was some fucking awesome 18-wheeler backing up because the parking lot was kind of small, and he didn't even sideswipe my car...so anyway, i get back home and i can literally smell the cajun style fried chicken combined with the aroma of hot fries with their signature seasoning...it was around that time i woke up, completely irritated that it was just a dream, and there was no delicious bojangles chicken awaiting me for breakfast

I'm still waiting on someone here to call for Yow's departure if she doesn't fire TOB. B/c if you still support our coach (according to some of the brilliant folks here), you must be an idiot. Therefore, Yow should be fired too. The logic is undeniable.

Let me clue you guys in on how to get fired as a coach for NCSU football:1) Academic or NCAA shenanigens2) Really shitty season (see Chuck Amato) - and to be honest the shitty season has to follow a downward trend of mediocre seaons3) Consecutive mediocre seasons and no wins against UNC (see Mike O'Cain)4) Get arrestedSince TOB has done none of the above, he's here to stay. You guys can bitch and moan all you want but until he does one of the above, you're wasting your breath.Plus, I believe he's still credible. And I think we'll win 3 of the last 4 (lose to Clempson).

Copying and pasting a post from Packpride that I pretty much agree with 100%:
11/1/2012 11:39:33 AM
thats a rare gem of reason to find on packpride.
11/1/2012 12:19:28 PM
I get all that but I'm less concerned about total wins and national rankings because those things don't matter as much in a shitty football conference like the ACC. If Saturday's game had been UVA or Wake instead of UNC, it still would have been incredibly disappointing to blow a 4th quarter 10 point lead in the way that we did. Yes, I really hate losing to UNC, but I'm also tired of losing winnable games in a season where we have a legit chance to win our division and play for an ACC championship. It's the same reason the 2010 9-4 season was "disappointing." I know we still have a chance at that but losing the UNC game makes it harder. I definitely don't think TOB should be fired but it would be nice to see one season where we can win all those make-or-break games and get a shot at a title. I don't think that's an unrealistic goal for any school's fan base in the ACC, except maybe Duke.
11/1/2012 12:33:26 PM
^ the thing is, while it's a different levels, almost every coach in america loses winnable games, sometimes several times a season.
11/1/2012 12:37:43 PM
no, I get that. I'm just saying it would be nice to put all our "big" wins together in one season and our "bad" losses in others. How many seasons without putting those together do we go before we get tired of it?Wake, BC, Clemson, FSU have all been to a title game. It's not like we have some juggernaut like Alabama that will ALWAYS be in our path to a conference championship so a goal of an ACC Championship game is not unrealistic and after so many seasons without one, I think it's enough reason to want a coach gone. Whether the breaking point is 6 or 7, or even 10 seasons is a debatable issue so I can see why some want him gone now and why some are willing to wait.[Edited on November 1, 2012 at 12:45 PM. 11/1/2012 12:51:00 PM
I don't know why those two have to go together but yeah, I'd take a conference championship in football if it meant a sub .500 record the next year.
11/1/2012 12:51:25 PM
^^^That's the exact issue I have with TOB teams is that they are wildly inconsistent.^me too[Edited on November 1, 2012 at 12:52 PM. Reason : .][Edited on November 1, 2012 at 12:52 PM. Reason : :]

11/1/2012 12:57:32 PM
Consistently unprepared for the first 3-4 games.
11/1/2012 12:58:27 PM
Yeah, you can pretty much bank on us looking really good and beating a team we have no business beating... then losing a couple in gridiron battles for "least retarded." Beating a really good team, losing to bad teams in the same season. You know... inconsistent.[Edited on November 1, 2012 at 1:03 PM. Reason : -]
11/1/2012 1:01:51 PM
I was responding to someone saying they wished we could put all of our good games in one season, and then all of our bad losses in the next season. I was saying that TOB has a pretty consistent record from year to year. I thought that was obvious.[Edited on November 1, 2012 at 1:13 PM. Reason : ]
11/1/2012 1:04:57 PM
^but he's horribly inconsistent within a season. Yes, you will win games you're not supposed to and lose games you're not supposed to, but the goal is to win, not accept what "just happens". This year the only loss that's somewhat acceptable is UT, and that one was a toss up. Miami is garbage. UNC is garbage and it showed when we played them. They have no defense and a pretty weak offense. The better team lost that day because they find ways to lose.Of the 5 wins, 2 were cupcakes and since we don't have chucky, we can discount those for this discussion. So of the 3 wins, 1 was a WTF win that shouldn't have been (FSU) so gg Tommy Boy. The other 2 were squeaked out lucky draws against garbage. You can't lose to UT, almost lose to UMD and UCONN, have it taken away by UNC, and win at FSU and call it good coaching. I don't like, and never have liked, TOB. He's boring, bland, and predictable. He's Herb Sendek - a decent coach which will give you decent records and maybe the occasional post-season success. But that's the ceiling. No major post-season wins (tire bowls and mall store bowls do not count). Does NCSU "deserve" a big name head coach or big post-season wins? No, not sure why that's ever asked, whodafuck thinks we deserve anything? However, we have the talent, players, money, and facilities to at least be in the ACCCG and going to BCS bowls. Should TOB fired? No, unless there is a better option that is attainable.[Edited on November 1, 2012 at 1:15 PM. Reason : .]

11/1/2012 1:12:27 PM
I didn't actually say "in the next season" but I guess it doesn't change what I'm saying. I'd like to see us in the ACC championship game, period.Being pleased with 4-4 and 5-3 in a bad football conference and 3-4 wins over mediocre OOC opponents every year is just boring to me. It's nice that it's not 1-7, don't get me wrong. But it's not too much to ask of a coach in this league to make it happen once in 5-10 years.
11/1/2012 1:13:12 PM
11/1/2012 1:13:42 PM
^^nah, i get what you're saying, and agree somewhat. but how many coaches in the league make it to the championship game every 5 or 10 years?
11/1/2012 1:16:42 PM
it's easy to shoot up the rankings when you play nobodies/shitty teams and have 2 shutout wins against high school teams.[Edited on November 1, 2012 at 1:18 PM. Reason : .]
11/1/2012 1:17:39 PM
They did run it up against Elon (62 - 0) and Idaho (66 - 0) to skew those stats... but had we played those two teams we would have won those games with scores like 35 - 24 or something.
11/1/2012 1:17:43 PM
We've both played two shit schools. Those are valid numbers. I have no idea what the fuck wdp's post means.
11/1/2012 1:19:23 PM
UNC does have an offense that can run up the score; however, it's easily defeated when you start to pressure them on the passing game.
