Whats the deal with Eric Young? (not the baseball player or the wrestler)Kid is HUGE
7/7/2009 8:10:03 PM
I think he's a good bit underrated. We are his only offer right now. Dude is huge, which is a pro and con. He moves well for his weight and has active hands, but he may need to either shed some weight or tone it up a bit. That depends on the system he's in too though.ESPN Evaluation

Braylon Heard committed to West Virginia.
7/8/2009 1:29:38 PM
^^Man I hope so. I think he's given ND one last chance to impress him before pulling the trigger on us. Getting him, Creecy, and Crisp gives us three(I'm assuming) of the top ten players in the state. This would be pretty big considering it's still the summer before their senior year.
7/8/2009 1:49:24 PM
It'd also be nice to get Kendall Moore. Hopefully we'll get some good news on the 11th.

Brandon Burrows is heading to Georgia:Georgia snares ESPNU 150 Watch List defender Brandon BurrowsOne of the nation's top defensive ends, ESPNU 150 Watch List prospect Brandon Burrows of Walton (Marietta, Ga.) has given the Bulldogs a Class of 2010 commitment. The 6-foot-3, 235-pound Burrows chose Georgia over Florida, Oklahoma, Alabama, Clemson, Maryland, North Carolina State and East Carolina, among others.According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Burrows was impressed at how quickly Georgia contacted him after he suffered a torn ACL during spring practice.ESPN's Craig Haubert said of the news, "Over the last few classes Walton high school in Marietta Georgia has produced some good talent especially along the defensive line, but for whatever reason there has not been a connection made with the in-state Georgia Bulldogs. Well, now Georgia and Walton have hooked up and the Bulldogs have arguably landed the best of the bunch from Walton's recent prospects.""Like some of the Walton's other defensive line prospects Burrows is a high motor and physical player and he also though possesses nice size. At this point is a little stronger defending the run and needs to develop his pass rush some. He is good with his hands and can separate and take on blockers. Displays a good feel for the game and being able to run stunts. Burrows is not a tough kid to like as he plays hard with a physical nature and displays the tools to be a good college defender.""Georgia is rolling the dice a little and showing faith in Burrows as he tore his ACL this past spring and will likely miss his entire senior season. The lost time will likely set him back slightly, but with the timing of the injury he should be ready to compete and continue to develop by the times he hits Athens."Georgia now has 13 pledges, including eight ESPNU 150 Watch List prospects.

^^ I thought we were in good shape with Moore? What happened
7/10/2009 2:20:26 PM
^ agreed....
7/10/2009 2:21:33 PM
Just most seem to think he is leaning towards ND. I think a lot is because he set his press conference shortly after his trip there and said he enjoyed his visit a lot.
7/10/2009 2:44:19 PM
There was an article where he said: "I wanted to find a little bit more about them, and now I feel like I know enough about them to make a decision.”Which lead me to believe either he found out enough to write them off, or found out enough to sign with them. Im not sure ND holds the mystique for these kids that it holds for us old fogies
7/10/2009 2:54:45 PM
^ good point. look no further than our BB program. Kids nowadays, if they aren't from NC have to be educated about the fact that our program used to mean something. An offer from ND 5 years ago meant that you could pretty much just go ahead and pencil that kid in pretty much. I think recruits are, for the most part, a lot smarter. They want playing time and coaches who will teach them. If you really shine on the field, you'll make it to the NFL, but you've gotta be seen.
7/10/2009 3:15:43 PM
Don't get me wrong guys, I'd love to see him suit up in the red and white for us at either LB or DE, just relaying some of the things I've read. Here's to him making a fool of me tomorrow.

How many more DTs do you think we take?
7/11/2009 11:22:44 PM
If we get a verbal from any one of Everett, Hunter, or Farmer, I say we call it good at DT.
7/12/2009 10:45:42 AM
I thought Hunter was actually a DE?
7/12/2009 10:49:32 AM
Winkles was a LB but will be playing FB for us. You could be right though. Since we gave Teal a DT offer, it may be in our best interest to have Hunter as a DE offer. He is listed as a DT on PP.

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/preps/story/829069.htmlCarolinas grow bumper crop of top high-school junior QBsThe juniors are coming. And they're bringing the Year of the Quarterback with them.Things could change, of course, but the Carolinas are looking at a remarkable crop of football-playing high school juniors. And a surprising number of them are quarterbacks. In fact, there may be more quality quarterback prospects in North and South Carolina in the Class of 2011 than in any prior group. Many are on the Observer's lists of the top 10 rising juniors in the Carolinas. Most, like Butler High's Christian LeMay, stirred things up as sophomores. His good work has duly impressed his coach, Mike Newsome.Among others.“I was told by one recruiting analyst that by the time he's a senior, Christian has a chance to be the best quarterback prospect in the country,” Newsome said.LeMay, like many of the junior quarterbacks , is a dual threat. He had more than 1,800 passing yards as a sophomore, with 18 touchdowns and three interceptions. He ran for 350 yards and three scores.“He's got great arm strength, and can stay in the pocket or move and make people miss to get out of trouble," Newsome said. "He's got great leadership ability; he's the total package.”As are many of the quarterbacks in the Carolinas – players like Justin Worley at Rock Hill Northwestern, called by coach Jimmy Wallace “The most mature 10-grader I've had in 37 years of coaching.”Players like Marquise Williams at Mallard Creek, Vad Lee of Durham Hillside, Everett Golson of Myrtle Beach or Robert Smith of Dorchester (S.C.) Woodland.“I'd hate to be the Shrine Bowl coaches for that class,” said Scout.com recruiting expert Miller Safrit. “I count six quarterbacks that will be getting BCS offers as quarterbacks and maybe five more that will be getting offers as athletes.”Safrit's first group includes Lemay, Golson, Williams and Worley, along with Brian Taylor of Hartnett Central and Price Litton of Providence Day.Litton has yet to prove himself on the field. He backed up Duke-bound Anthony Boone last year at Weddington, and transferred to get playing time. But Safrit has seen him often at camps and combines, and puts a “can't miss” stamp on him .His second group includes Durham Hillside's Vad Lee, Chester's Tony McNeal, West Rowan's B.J. Sherrill, Dorchester's Robert Smith and Athens Drive's Ben Snotherly.“It will be a great class for quarterbacks in the Carolinas,” Safrit said. Many of them have received verbal offers from some of the country's top college programs . But, the offers remain unofficial. As of Sept. 1 of a player's junior year, he is allowed to receive official written offers, documents that will be sent to him and his coach. Also, he can receive handwritten recruiting letters, rather than the form sheets schools send to hundreds of players.“I tell the kids that the handwritten letters from recruiters are the only ones that mean anything,” Newsome said. How good are these juniors? Another dozen or so in each state could make a strong case for the Observer's list, like defensive tackle DeShawn Williams of Daniel High, who has committed to Clemson. Some of the athletes on these Top 10 lists will fade and not make our Top 50 Carolinas prospects list next year when they're seniors. Others, whose names aren't familiar now, will explode up the rankings. But then it happens that way every year.

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/story/829070.htmlTop junior recruits in the CarolinasPosted: Saturday, Jul. 11, 2009The Observer's Stan Olson takes an early look at the top high school football juniors in the Carolinas, with 10 from each state listed in alphabetical order:NORTH CAROLINASTEPHONE ANTHONY, LB, Wadesboro AnsonHow about a linebacker who has intercepted 14 passes in two seasons ? Speed and quickness in a 6-foot-3, 220-pound package.K.J. BRENT, WR, Marvin RidgeAt 6--4, possibly the best big receiver in his N.C. class. Injured last year, but great hands and an ability to come down with the ball.NIGEL KING, WR, WakefieldAt 6-2 and 195 pounds , King should develop into the prototypical big WR. As a sophomore, he had 853 receiving yards and 15 TDs.VAD LEE, QB, Durham HillsideA remarkable athlete at 6-1 and 200 pounds, Lee runs a 4.5-second 40 and could play a number of positions in college , including quarterback.CHRISTIAN LEMAY, QB, ButlerPoised and in control, with two years left to play. Possibly the state's most mobile quarterback . And possibly the best in the country by his senior year.PRICE LITTON, QB, Providence DayLitton is 6-2 and 205 pounds and throws bullets. Transferred after playing sparingly at Weddington, and should be a dominating QB this fall.DREW OWENS, TE, Ardrey KellHe's 6-5 and 230 pounds and can run the 40 in 4.59 seconds. Add good hands and a 35-inch vertical and you can see why colleges are interested.B.J. SHERRILL, QB, West RowanSolid and muscular at 5-11 and 230 pounds, Sherrill led the Falcons to a 15-1 record and the state 3A title. Also an outstanding basketball player.BRIAN TAYLOR, QB, Hartnett CentralHad the Trojans undefeated before breaking his leg in the sixth game and missing the rest of the season. He's 6-3 and 200 pounds, and had thrown for more than 1,000 yards and 10 TDs when he was hurt.MARQUISE WILLIAMS, QB, Mallard CreekA dual-threat quarterback at 6--3 and 195 pounds, Williams has 4.7 speed and was an ME-CA 7 all-conference pick as a sophomore with more than 3,000 yards of total offense and 37 TDs.SOUTH CAROLINARODERICK BYERS, DL, NorthwesternSaw limited varsity play on a deep team, but he's 6-4 and 250 pounds with outstanding quickness. Could wind up in the defensive interior in college, but also has the speed for DE.SHON CARSON, RB, Lake CityAs a freshman, he rushed for 1,300 yardsand followed that with 1,600 last year. Carson (5-9, 195 pounds) has 4.4 speed and a number of verbal offers.JADEAVEON CLOWNEY, DE, South PointeWe talk a lot about QBs here, but this could be the best prospect of all. Clowney is 6-6, 245 pounds and runs a 4.55 40. “I've been in this game 27 years and haven't seen one like him,” says Stallions coach Bobby Carroll.HAKEEM FLOWERS, WR, Greenville HamptonTry 6-3, 180 pounds with 4.4-second speed. Flowers still has some developing to do, but his natural ability has colleges interested.EVERETT GOLSON, QB, Myrtle BeachA combo quarterback with a strong arm, he led the Seahawks to the state 3A title. Golson (6-0, 170) has already broken the school passing record with more than 5,000 yards in two seasons.TONY MCNEAL, QB, ChesterAs a sophomore, McNeal 6-1, 180) led the Cyclones to the state title game and he threwfor 3,577 yards and 39 touchdowns.CHARON PEAKE, WR, Roebuck DormanYou will find few wide receivers who are 6-3 with 4.4 speed like Peake . As a freshman, he turned his first four catches into touchdowns.ROBERT SMITH, QB, Dorchester WoodlandThe top run-pass threat at the position, he had almost 3,500 yards of total offense and 36 touchdowns last season.DEXTER STALEY, LB, Williston-ElkoNot as well known as others on this list, but he's 6-2, 230 pounds and runs a 4.6 40. In a playoff game last season, Staley ran for three TDs, threw for another, caught a pass for one and blocked a punt.JUSTIN WORLEY, QB, NorthwesternLed team to S.C. Class 4A Division II title game. Good height at 6-5 and will get stronger as he adds to his 180 pounds . Also a baseball and basketball standout.

Two updates.... Andrew Donnal committed to Iowa and Sharrod Golightly committed to Vanderbilt:Hawkeyes snare Watch List offensive lineman Andrew DonnalESPNU 150 Watch List prospect Andrew Donnal, a 6-foot-7, 265-pound offensive lineman from Anthony Wayne HS (Whitehouse, Ohio), has committed to head coach Kirk Ferentz and Iowa. The highly-recruited Donnal picked the Hawkeyes over Michigan, Michigan State, Boston College, Maryland and Virginia. He was also offered by Wisconsin, Illinois, South Carolina, West Virginia, North Carolina State, Stanford, Wake Forest, Duke and Indiana, among others.ESPN's Bill Conley added, "Iowa picks up one of the top offensive linemen in the Buckeye State with the commitment of Andrew Donnal of Wayne High School in Huber Heights, Ohio. Donnal is the tenth commitment for the Hawkeyes and their second offensive line verbal. Six of the ten commits are from outside Iowa and the 2010 class has been heavy on the defensive side till Donnal's addition.""Donnal is a tall and physically impressive lineman that is a two way player on both the offensive and defensive fronts for Wayne High School. He really does a good job of using his body weight and leverage on the defensive linemen he goes up against. Donnal has very good mobility and can pull and trap with ease. He uses his hands well and his long arms are huge assets in pass protection."Commodores grab Peach State prospect Sharrod GolightlySafety Sharrod Golightly (Decatur, Ga./Southwest Dekalb) has committed to sign as part of Vanderbilt's Class of 2010, ESPN's JC Shurburtt reports. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound prospect selected the Commodores over Ole Miss and South Carolina.Other programs such as Tennessee, Georgia Tech, North Carolina State, Alabama-Birmingham and New Mexico also offered.Golightly was credited with 88 tackles and two interceptions as a junior. The Commodores now have 14 pledges.

Alex Kinney committed to Penn State today:Nittany Lions snare Watch List wideout Alex KenneyESPNU 150 Watch List receiver Alex Kenney of State College, Pa., has given Penn State a Class of 2010 commitment. The 6-foot-0, 185-pound highly-recruited prospect was also offered by Boston College, Illinois, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, Stanford, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina, among many others.Kenney told ESPN Affiliate Nittany Network that proximity and familiarity were crucial to his decision: "Number one, it's close to home and I will still be able to talk to my parents. Number two, I won't have to do a lot of adjusting - I've been here my whole life." The campus is like a second home to Kenney because his father is a professor at the school.ESPN's Tom Luginbill said of the commitment, "Seems like the Nittany Lions are filling up at a need position and Alex Kenney brings versatility and a multi-purpose background as a speedster slot/scatback hybrid. This is a kid that can go the distance in the open field. This is a kid that gives them some high voltage ability in the Spread HD."PSU now has 13 pledges, including seven ESPNU 150 Watch List prospects.

Schools such as Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Alabama, LSU and Auburn also offered. He told ESPN affiliate Web site TheBigSpur.com, "First of all, I don't want to be far from home. I want to be close to my family and make sure they can see me play. I also feel like coach Wolford can develop me better as a player than any other coach that's recruiting me. It's just the best fit for me."ESPN's Bill Conley added, "The Gamecocks have picked up their fourteenth commitment for 2010 with the addition of huge offensive lineman Eric Mack. That means that an astonishing one half of the class is composed of offensive lineman. South Carolina is having another very solid recruiting start again this season.""Mack is a big and powerful offensive lineman that dominates the man across from him. He has such a jarring first punch that he often knocks the defender to the turf with the initial blow. He gives great effort downfield when pulling, trapping and leading on the perimeter. Mack has all the tools to be an exceptional collegiate lineman." Watch List offensive lineman Matt Rotheram picks PanthersA massive 6-foot-6, 320-pound ESPNU 150 Watch List offensive tackle / guard, Matt Rotheram of North Olmsted, Ohio, has given a Class of 2010 commitment to Pittsburgh over Purdue and Indiana.Among others, he was also offered by Michigan State, Illinois, Wisconsin and Cincinnati.ESPN's Bill Conley added, "The University of Pittsburgh picked up its twelfth commitment by invading the neighboring Buckeye State. The Panthers picked up a much needed offensive line verbal with the addition of Matt Rotheram of North Olmstead, Ohio.""Rotheram is an absolutely huge offensive lineman that dominates the opposition in the run game. He is powerful at the point of attack and maintains excellent leverage for such a tall lineman. Even though he has some limitations in space, he gives great effort when pulling and leading downfield. Rotheram will most likely start off at the offensive guard position where he will have time to mature as a big time pass protector."The Panthers now have 12 pledges.
