There's like no snow on the ground in south Charlotte. However all the cars in my lot are covered in a layer of ice, as well as some various metal rails and awning frames, etc. No ice-covered asphalt or concrete, yet. Steady freezing rain falling though, gonna be slick in the morning. And if it doesn't thaw out on Tuesday, it's gonna stick around awhile with the sub-freezing temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday. Ugh.

It dumped ice in morrisville earlier. according to weather underground, the precipitation is really supposed to hit tonight like midnight-4am

http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/hdfForecast?query=morrisville+nc

I'm totally ok with it dumping ice. Ice = no driving = no work

Yeah....I'd rather not have ice and go to work tomorrow instead of losing power for several days. Which is what happened the last time there was a major ice storm around here.

I am gonna go out on a limb and say we are fucked.

Greg Fisher said once it switches over to rain its gonna start accumulating, he said the later it switches over the better, the earlier the more fucked we are.

Its been raining out for an hour, my driveway is so slick you cant stand on it.

The worst thing about ice is that it's not going to get above freezing anytime soon, so it'll stay there and just make things fucking miserable.

Check the forecast, 3 hours later it will be in the mid 30s. The cold front that was pushing south was stalled by the moisture from the south which heated up our area. Once the front from the south pushes through then the cold air will finish pushing down and chilling us off.

7-8 inches up here in Lynchburg. At least it is fluffy snow and not ice. Best of luck Raleigh folks. Ice sucks. Still remember that awful ice storm from 2002 in Raleigh.

South Charlotte has about 1/2" of snow/ice on the ground. Sidewalks were a sheet of ice in some places, too. It aint gonna be pretty in the morning. No way in hell am I going in.

Ford Ranger, 4x4...but its not the greatest in this shit. Too light. Slipped and slid everywhere 6 inch snow we had last year. Would rather be in my wife's little civic

Came from Greenville to Raleigh, came into Raleigh about Midnight...the roads halfway were nothing but a layer of straight ice. Looks like Raleigh got Ice then a long period of sleet and now back to ice again but granular.

It's really coming down still though. I drive a 4x4 GMC Crew Cab truck and it was like skating with that thing.

Not many people should venture out...ESPECIALLY non weather skilled drivers.

plows are already plowing my job's parking lot. Took me 20 minutes to pry my truck door open and get the ice off of the windshield. Thick layer of ice, fluffy white stuff, thin layer of ice. Prolly close to 2 inches all mashed up together. Shit is hard as a rock. I was walking on top of it on the sidewalk and not even leaving foot prints.

Best I can tell so far, all ice in Raeford. I've not been outside yet, but it looks pretty rough. Work is on a 3 hour delay, freaking stupid. It's still coming down a bit, it's not gonna be any different at 9 AM then it is 6.

its barely supposed to reach freezing today in charlotte, much less further north. My wife's work is on a 2 hour delay as well. Really? So in those two hours, the temp is gonna go from 24 to 27. That'll really change things!

I guess the only thing you can say is that it gives the trucks 2 more hours to plow, but honestly, plowing does nothing but make it worse.

well, she works at a doctors office. Thing is, they only have like 20 patients scheduled for the entire day, and how many of those do you think are gonna make it in? Just seems an incredibly dumb thing to do.

Some fucked up shit at work. State made a new rule for 2015 that employees who left during condition two (classes cancelled but offices opened) would have the time charged against their vacation leave. Previously you could do that or you could make up that time within one year. Okay, fine. Yesterday they tell non-mandatory employees to go home at 2:00 as classes are cancelled, but offices are open and remind everybody of the new rule. Then about 3:15 they say an exception has been made by the state and to go home and you would not have to worry about making up the time or having it run against leave. But at the same time that statement said that this only applied to Monday afternoon and would not be applicable on Tuesday morning.

This morning I get up and campus is still on condition 2 with "offices open" until 11:00. But when I go check the bus schedule, the buses will not be running until 10:00 am. So now the university is open but I and most of my coworkers are unable to even get to the office so we get to enjoy taking our vacation time, but they made an exception yesterday before anything had hit the ground. What the hell?

^that's ridiculous. My office is closed, yeehaw

Looks pretty bad here in south Raleigh.

I don't care what you drive or if you have 4WD/AWD, unless you have dedicated SNOW tires nothing is safe to drive in this ice.

Jeep handled it fine with mud tires.

The trucks are making it worse though... Ice pellets are better then the sheet of ice they're scraping down to.
