You really shouldn't be experiencing any lag on the phone after its initial setup and sync.People like to hate on MotoBlur, but the version on the DroidX is rather polished and runs mostly in the background. On buggy as hell 1.5 using the backflip and its 512MHz processor I didn't experience much lag on the homescreen. Only things that really lagged on it were Swype, the stock text messaging app when I had a ton of texts in it, and then the occasional app lag.[Edited on August 7, 2010 at 10:55 PM. Reason : asdfg]

I'm now in the unenviable position of having a phone that appears to have stopped working, but the phones I want are all out of stock.FML

i ordered w/ Verizon on the phone last Saturday and they said it would ship by the 11th of Augusti got my phone in the mail this past Wednesday..... so if you order one now it won't actually take as long as they predict

So apparently the guys at Alldroid.org bought a developer DroidX complete with 2.2 and a different bootloader. Maybe it'll get custom roms yet...
8/9/2010 4:31:13 PM
^^wish it didn't have the qwerty
8/9/2010 6:34:23 PM
Qwerty is a huge selling point for business oriented consumers (ie, Blackberry replacements) - i rarely use mine on my Droid, but can imagine if you write long paragraphs in emails, you may want something more substantial than the touchscreen
8/9/2010 7:11:36 PM
swype is freakin amazing so far
8/9/2010 7:13:09 PM
i tried swype, and i dont mean tried it and immediately discarded it. i tried it for a whole two months or so and i am so glad to be back to the stock layout. the buttons were either smaller or too close together and the layout just did not work for my brain i guess.
8/9/2010 8:50:32 PM
yea i'm the exact opposite, i've been using it for months like you, but now whenever i'm forced to use a non-swype enabled phone i get so freakin frustrated at how slow it takes to type some words, it's like going back to the stone ages.

on that note, a good auto-correct seems to be lacking on the android platform...granted i use swype most of the time, but even when i change to the stock keyboard it seems they focus on providing suggestions instead of auto-correcting the crap you enter.am i missing something?
8/9/2010 9:45:58 PM
nah, that's pretty much it. it thinks it knows what you meant to type, so it offers a suggestionI think they're banking on you just going with that suggestion, hitting spacebar to accept, and moving on to the next word.for me, it works 60% of the time for a new phone... then as it gradually adds words to it's database, that percentage increases.
8/9/2010 9:53:20 PM
^^^ lol thats basically what my texts looked like with swype, 1 or 2 letters were always wrong but you could tell what i meant[Edited on August 9, 2010 at 9:55 PM. Reason : not skype, swype!]
8/9/2010 9:55:04 PM
the auto-correct keyboard on htc phones works just fine. i watched the blindtype video and its not that impressive, i like the autocorrect on my phone better.personally i'm not a fan of swype either. i used it for awhile but am still faster with a regular keyboard because with swype i always had to look at the keyboard and plan the motion i was going to make for each word. i was hoping that would go away but i never got any faster even after more than a month of use. with a regular keyboard i can just type without thinking and with the htc keyboard as long as i get close its going to pick the word i want.

Droid 2 is official. Pre-orders start tomorrow and phone goes on sale Thursday. http://news.vzw.com/news/2010/08/pr2010-08-09c.html

After responding to azaka's post the other day i've noticed a lot of the same problems with my droid x. Its been laggy as hell browsing through the home screens and app drawer, and even text entry has been shitty. and earlier today the screen responding so I had to pull the battery and reboot. I dunno if I could take it to verizon and have it replaced or what, but its really starting to piss me off after running so smoothly for a few weeks

any decent media players that actually support hardware acceleration? doubletwist and the stock media player suck shit. rockplayer is pretty GD awesome as far as playback is concerned, but i just hate the program itself.
8/10/2010 4:19:24 PM
i use RockPlayer, but here's another, not sure if it's been updated to support 2.2 or not:yxflash
8/10/2010 4:35:16 PM
BDubLS1 UK users love it and its been skinned really nice. 2.2 is coming soon anyway.
8/10/2010 5:09:53 PM
CorePlayer will hopefully be out soon and will play 720p x264 mkv's without skipping

Swype is nice but it still takes up half the screen. I'd much rather add a little size to it and have the option of a physical keyboard.]
8/10/2010 6:01:36 PM
you other Swypers, do you use it horizontally or vertically?i find it a lot easier vertically so you can still see the message screen above it, instead of just the typing cell that you are putting text into at the timealso, there's less distance to have to move your finger between letters[Edited on August 10, 2010 at 9:03 PM. my main problem with swype is that it works for shit when there's more friction between your thumbs and fingers and the screen.
8/10/2010 9:09:24 PM
i just got this silicone case online for like $4 with shipping and the silicone actually makes my finger rub across the screen smoother if i rub it first
8/10/2010 9:27:29 PM
Ordered my DroidX on Monday. Wondering if i made the right choice instead of opting for the Droid 2 with the keyboard
8/11/2010 8:13:34 AM
eh. Having used a Droid on multiple occasions, I had no desire to go back to a physical keyboard. I know they "improved" they keyboard on the Droid 2 but the few times I used a Droid X before ordering, the touch screen was super easy to use via swype or normal tap-typing. We'll see how it is when I am using it as my own phone but I only expect it to be even more fluid.[Edited on August 11, 2010 at 8:29 AM. Reason : ]

swype doesn't seem any faster than just tapping the qwerty touchscreeni'll have to give it a tryhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCWwuIXxBuI
8/11/2010 8:41:15 AM
its not, having to think about what shape to use keeps it from being faster.
8/11/2010 10:33:28 AM
If you don't find Swype much, much faster, you are doing it wrong. You don't have to remember shapes. If you already know QWERTY, you drag your finger to where you know it needs to be for the next letter. It's easy as hell.
8/11/2010 10:38:31 AM
i can type faster, with swype i had to look at the keyboard because with my finger moving all around i can't know for sure where it is. also i have to confirm and choose a word much more often than with the htc keyboard. after years of using phones with a qwery keyboard my thumbs have the muscle memory similar to how your fingers know where everything is on a keyboard. swype messes that up, if there was a 2 thumb swyping method it might be faster, but the constant looking and confirming with one finger slows it down.i know its an iphone but i type with two thumbs like this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bet1H1hC4VY&feature=related[Edited on August 11, 2010 at 10:49 AM. ^^you're doing it wrong.with Sywpe you just keep swyping and it will keep spitting it out, if there's a question on a word and you hit space it will put the first word in and once you're done with the message you go back and correct. check out the World Record, it's clearly faster, you just need to break your creature of habit waiting for autocorrect to pop-up.[Edited on August 11, 2010 at 11:07 AM. 8/11/2010 11:07:17 AM
it didn't get the right word enough to warrant not waiting for auto correct. i mean i tried it for a few months, then the beta stopped working and i went back to the htc keyboard and realized how much faster i am. and with a physical keyboard it would be no contest at all.
8/11/2010 11:19:18 AM
If you get the hang of swype, there's nothing currently available that is faster. For anyone with a captivatehttp://www.androidcentral.com/samsung-captivate-overclocked-12-ghz-16-ghz-come-soon
