Given the source, I doubt that this story has many legs to it; however, Byron York appears to be suggesting that Christopher Steele and Glenn Simpson somehow colluded with Oleg Deripaska under the guidance of the Department of Justice.

Why wouldn't he be? Judging from his testimony, he and Steele seemed to have a fairly open dialogue about the information that Steele was collecting. However, I forget whether Simpson was involved at all in relaying Steele's information to the U.S. government, whether it be the DOJ/FBI or the State Department.

not Simpson and Steele, Simpson and Ohr. There is no good reason for a DOJ official to be communicating with an opposition research firm instead of with the intelligence assets directly gathering the information. Simpson wasn't needed as an intermediary between Steele and Ohr, as those two already had direct contact with one another.
