I didn't have a problem with benching Leslie. I had a problem with the last 35 seconds of the game. We had a chance to win and shot ourselves in the foot. Leslie getting the rebound and not holding it or passing it back to Zo to hold for the final shot when we were down by 1. The retarded pass to Wood that he caught out of bounds and the heave down the court with 2.9 seconds left. I would much rather see an inbound and a shot coming from half court.

If Gottfrieds gameplan was to put that kid in the guiness book of world records for most blocked shots in a game then he did a great job planning and our players did a masterful job of executing.IWhat a joke tonight was. Kansas played like Ass and we still blew it. If you can't beat a team that shoots 2/25 from outside you shouldn't be in the tournament. Typical state. One step forward, one step back. Running on a treadmill, swimming in a wave pool. Team looked like we started with a whisper

3/24/2012 2:14:43 AM
I waste a lot of time watching nc state sports and thinking and typing about them. I'm addicted to losing I can't deny it. But I'm almost over it. If we can't win games next year I'm pretty sure I'm done. Both sports.
3/24/2012 2:16:09 AM
^ my reaction:
3/24/2012 2:21:01 AM
Learned what, that I was right? Benching your good players is horrible strategy. Listen this isn't fucking chess or even sudoku. It's not even the daily jumble or connect four. Basketball strategy is fairly rote. It's not let's make a deal rote or that fucking game where you pick a briefcase and hope it has $1 million in it. But its not like weird science where you have to clone a supermodel or like that movie called short circuit in the 80's where you have to build a robot.Things like should I play a guy extended minutes that hasn't played all season while I sit my best player on the bench while we lose to one of the best teams in the nation. That's fucking tic tac toe. You never take the middle square first you go to the corner and try to set a trap by getting three corners and making them lose. Tic tac toe!!!!@
3/24/2012 2:23:13 AM
great job coach, no one expected we would go this far!
3/24/2012 2:25:43 AM
Great job burying Leslie on the depth chart behind Harris and painter. No worries I've got a lot of good movies like steel magnolias to catch up on during the offseason. Thank god I have an extra weekend since we don't play unc on Sunday now

I can feel their eyes are watching. In case we lose again.Sometimes I think I'm happy here. Sometimes yet I still pretend.I can't remember how this got started But I can tell you exactly how it will end Every year is exactly the same. There is no love here and there is no pain. Every year is exactly the same .
3/24/2012 2:46:07 AM
Gottfried had a pretty simple gameplan, and it almost worked despite poor execution from our players. Kansas had 4 in the paint at every drive by Zo and collapsing when post entries were made, with one guarding Scott Wood, that's due to our lack of outside shooting. The only time we made them pay for that was the curl 3 by CJW and handoff 3 from Zo. I know, water is wet, better outside shooting = more interior space. The other was iso sets for CJL on Robinson, when Withey is not there, CJL faced and got to the rim, mainly baseline side, due to the collapsing D in the first point. If either Painter or Howell made that elbow jumper to pull out Withey, that iso set is there all game. As far as going inside, that's what we do, sure I would like to have seen some pitchouts from off. boards to outside shooters, but we only have one reliable, willing shooter. We lost to a very good team that played like crap, due to our efforts, but we also played like crap, due to their efforts by 3 points. Please don't do this "if we hit this or got this call or played better down the stretch", because Kansas can say well shit, if we didn't go 7% from 3pt range. We were very good, I expect us to continue to be good.
3/24/2012 2:53:45 AM
what an incredible season -- we have some scorers and depth coming, if Calvin stays we are going to be horrifically over-ranked in the preseason polls. Curious to see how Gottfried deals with expectations next season. But even more curious to see our team plays with a year in the system under their belts -- we are going to be just fine.]
3/24/2012 2:57:39 AM
^^ Fair post, but some of the things he could have done are things people on here called for before the game. Whats wrong with making slight adjustments for a particular opponent? For example, if he has the rule that Painter and Howell are not allowed to back down any 7 footer, we are much better off. It shouldn't be a big deal to follow this strategy.[Edited on March 24, 2012 at 3:04 AM. Reason : .]
3/24/2012 3:04:17 AM
If only we were allowed to scout our opponents prior to the game. It sucks to show up at the arena and find out they have a 7 footer that blocks every shot. Wed already drawn up a gameplan, its too late to change it during warmups.
3/24/2012 3:32:49 AM
we should've hired coach Gott years ago...
3/24/2012 3:42:28 AM
3/24/2012 6:40:06 AM
Gott got a little too happy with the recent play of our big men and thought we could keep it up. He somehow forgot that we were playing so well against teams with suspect post games. Oh well.
3/24/2012 8:54:40 AM
Just to put it into perspective, Gottfried equaled Sendek's biggest accomplishment of his tenure in his first season. He surpassed Lowe and Robinson's best seasons by a mile. After 1 season, he has equaled our biggest achievement since Jimmy V. He's pretty damn credible.
3/24/2012 10:06:09 AM
With Lowe's players. Don't crown him yet. Everyone knows about the Tubby effect. Remember Lowe's first season? Quite similar.
3/24/2012 10:16:17 AM
Your troll attempts are getting very poor these days.... Really comparing Gott's first season to Lowe's? Sad sad
3/24/2012 10:18:09 AM
He's not an elite in-game coach, I think that much is obvious. We're terrible in end game situations and coming out of timeouts. He's mismanaged his timeouts and players with foul trouble on multiple occasions. But players enjoy playing for him, the team is fun to watch when they're playing well, he's bringing in good recruits, and his media experience is a definite plus for our image and confidence. The little run in the tourney proves it wasn't just a weak ACC explaining our decent record. We're a good basketball team and we've got that core coming back next year so I'm excited.
3/24/2012 10:26:54 AM
Lets just not crown him as the best coach ever until we see his players in his system. Its always easy to get 120% out of another coaches players when it is your first season because the players know if the season isn't good, all the blame will be placed on them. It happens all the time.
3/24/2012 10:29:40 AM
Very Credible. Thanks Gott for making me look forward to watching NCSU basketball games again.

3/24/2012 10:35:47 AM
Heartbreaking end to the season, but still a great coach, and + credibility.
3/24/2012 10:48:29 AM
3/24/2012 11:12:09 AM
Credible. Lost to one of the best teams in the country by three points and had a chance to win it, pretty much a home game for Kansas as well. Team rallied from being down 10 points to come within 1 point... Love all the back seat coaches on here.
3/24/2012 11:12:52 AM
+1 Great season and bested everyone's expectations and actually showed up in the NCAA tournament. When you take a bottom of the barrel ACC team to the Sweet 16 and take Kansas, a #2 seed to the buzzer, then you're doing something correct. And fuck the haters ITT
3/24/2012 11:13:40 AM
3/24/2012 11:18:05 AM
CREDIBLE
3/24/2012 11:33:09 AM
That outfit is ultra credible.
3/24/2012 11:54:22 AM
3/24/2012 12:06:40 PM
its not exactly "backseat coaching" to say you probably shouldn't put a player in the game during the sweet 16 for the first time in months.I shouldn't have to keep a media guide handy at all times in case we decide to play a walk on I've never heard of in the Final Four.
3/24/2012 1:25:42 PM
Face's strategy of "Play your best players no matter how many fouls they have or when in the game it is" is revolutionary and brilliant. Why hasn't he been picked up by and D1 colleges looking for a forward thinking coach?[Edited on March 24, 2012 at 1:55 PM. Reason : ]
3/24/2012 1:55:13 PM
While we're talking about "what if" bull shit. What if Harris did NOT come into the game and Kansas got all the bigs too terrified to play defense b/c they might foul out and we lost by 15? What if what if what ifffff
3/24/2012 1:59:56 PM
harris played in the acc tournament. your argument is invalid.
3/24/2012 2:03:21 PM
Harris should've been playing more all season imo.
3/24/2012 2:05:01 PM
He's just not that good at this point. Sure, for depth it would've been nice but every second he's on the floor over Leslie or Howell is a second closer to a loss.
3/24/2012 2:08:16 PM
^bingo, but the same applies to painter.[Edited on March 24, 2012 at 2:09 PM. Reason : .]

I'm in love with those mullet/stache photos so, so much. I like this coach because he's positive and has personality. And we all know from Arnold on Green Acres that personality goes a long way.
