^ so how many safeties do we need?
6/27/2009 2:57:46 PM
Roy Mangram, although listed as a safety, will likely play OLB. The same may be true for D.J. Green.
6/27/2009 4:27:09 PM
There's not a huge need for a safety in this class IMO. There are a couple guys who are LB/S tweeners if we run into trouble. I think we need a QB, 3 DL, another OL, and then either a LB or S (probably LB)
6/27/2009 5:09:02 PM
Justin Taylor could be deciding between us and VT in the next week or two. He probably would have already been committed to VT if it had not been for his recent trip. He supposedly will be visiting again this weekend, but this time with his mother. He'd be a good get considering we probably aren't going to land Alfy Hill. He has a pretty stout offer list too, which is great considering he's only played one year of organized football.Justin TaylorWeakside DENorwood (NC) South StanlyHt: 6-foot-4Wt: 222 lbsForty: 4.71 secsGPA: 3.0Schools Interested (known offers in italics)ArkansasAuburnKentuckyLouisvilleN.C. i think taylor is ours. He wants to be close to home, and raleigh is about an hour and a half closer than blacksburg i think(don't quote me on that though). Also, you don't take mama to see a school unless you're SERIOUSLY, SERIOUSLY interested.....though i think everyone would understand that
6/27/2009 6:31:13 PM
From an ESPN recruiting blog
6/27/2009 8:32:23 PM
So I rewatched "The Program" tonight. I kind of wonder how much of that stuff happens at programs across the country, and I certainly don't hope it's going on here. I imagine some of that is going on at Florida in this off-season with as many arrests and problems that they've had. They shot most of it at the University of South Carolina and Duke University, but their is a skating scene between Halle Berry and Omar Epps that was shot at the Ice House in Cary.
6/28/2009 1:16:17 AM
So some guy on PP said that Amerson cancelled his visit to ND. That's good news for us. Hopefully we'll be getting another commitment in the coming days.
6/29/2009 12:29:24 AM
A few guys we offered committed elsewhere. Lo Wood committed to Notre Dame, T.J. Peeler committed to Pitt and Daquan Jones (OG we apparently offered according to ESPN Insider) committed to Penn State.
6/29/2009 1:01:22 AM
^ here's what some ND forum is saying:
6/29/2009 12:10:13 PM
The thing with Amerson will be if he commits before Johnson does. We only have 1 safety spot(already have 3 commits but I think at least one will convert to OLB). And Johnson is scheduled to visit later this week, so I think TOB will get serious with Amerson over the next couple of days so he has every chance to commit in case Johnson does.If I had to guess I think Amerson is the #1 safety on our board, so I really hope he sees the importance of getting on board early.
6/29/2009 1:18:45 PM
Well from what I've heard Mangram is almost assuredly going to end up being a LB, and Green may very well move to LB as well. They just have the size and frame to move there. Couldn't Singer be moved to CB? He's only 5-11.
6/29/2009 3:08:19 PM
I inquired about Green moving to OLB and it seems he was recruited as a safety so all expectations are he'll start out at safety. I don't think Singer or Mangram will be playing S, but we took 2 last year and 1 the year before that used a redshirt. So I don't really see us taking both Johnson and Amerson. We don't have a ton of scholarships to give out this year, so I think the coaches are having to be a little restrictive. I think they wanted to offer AJ Marshall at CB but they decided early on not to take a CB this year.
6/29/2009 3:20:31 PM
What effect does redshirting have on the scholarship? ie does it still count against our total? & what about the idea of redshirting some of the weaker ones and letting some of the stronger ones play so we can take both?
6/29/2009 3:31:50 PM
Redshirts still count against your scholarship limit.
6/29/2009 3:34:20 PM
Good news (i guess) re: Kendall Moore and Prince Shembo.Basically Moore and Shembo are seriously being wooed by ND and they didn't commit on this visit. Moore and his parents want him to commit by 8/15 and he's still talking about taking visits. Shembo named us in his top 5.
6/29/2009 3:51:04 PM
If your a 6'7 345lb guard,WTF do ur OT's look like???see: http://www.ncstate.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=85397&sport=1
6/29/2009 4:17:50 PM
...smaller? As usual?
6/29/2009 4:25:14 PM
^passing teams will typicially try to put their biggest guys at OT as to protect the QB's backside from an edge rusher. running teams typically will put the biggest guys at either guard or tackle depending on where they like to run to.
6/29/2009 4:29:53 PM
By smaller, I meant practically the same size, maybe a few pounds lighter. Regardless, everyone is smaller than this guy. Dude is a fuckin monster.
6/29/2009 4:37:16 PM
He might have a slow first-step and the coach moved him inside to guard to help him with recruiting, who knows. I'm sure if we land him TOB and Horton will know exactly where to put him on the OL to help him/us the most.
6/29/2009 4:45:43 PM
He might just project best in that scout's mind as a guard. who knows.
6/29/2009 4:50:15 PM
6/29/2009 5:01:18 PM
true, i saw that too, but as the ND blog i saw said, two cancelled visits is not a good sign, also considering they are recruiting 3 other top flight safeties
6/29/2009 5:48:13 PM
Do we really have a new commitment?Nevermind. I think it was just a late email about Winkles.[Edited on June 29, 2009 at 7:47 PM. Reason : ]
6/29/2009 7:42:55 PM
^yeah I got all excited when I saw that email and was thinking that Amerson committed, damn you and your late emails scout!
6/29/2009 8:10:51 PM
ND is recruiting 2 other safeties now. The Carrington guy mentioned in previous quotes committed to Stanford
6/29/2009 8:15:32 PM

i really want moore to commitit'd be nice to get some love from a local star after being screwed by Wall and LeslieMoore definitely seems like a solid kid, it'd be great to have him and Ryan Cheek at the MLB spot in a few years

6/30/2009 6:28:16 PM
^^^ no problem gunzz. I'll also try not to use "stahhhs" anymore. It sounds like it activates the crabs in a few people and gets their thongs all in a twist around their nutsacks.
6/30/2009 9:56:55 PM
i would love to get moore in here and just see where he ends up fitting. I could see him getting in here and bulking into a DE. Supposedly in some of the camps hes seemed a little stiff. But he could be a good run stopping MLB
6/30/2009 10:19:12 PM
Wow Stanford already has 21 commitments! 3 4*'s, 16 3*'s, and 2 2*'s. Their class looks pretty solid for them.http://stanford.scout.com/a.z?s=18&p=9&c=8&yr=2010
6/30/2009 10:24:55 PM
^Harbaugh is a solid coach, they'll be be able to compete for 2nd in the Pac-10 in a year or two...which is impressive considering the restrictions on recruiting.
6/30/2009 11:05:16 PM
I saw a thread on PP labeled "Prep QB Critical of State Camp"... anyone know what the deal is with that? Have any QB's been offered as of yet?
7/1/2009 2:15:18 PM
^ Just some Douche bag being a prick, nothing to worry about.
7/1/2009 2:53:50 PM
^^just some 1* nobody who 6 months ago said his favorites were teams like UNC, Tennessee, Virginia, etc......and now he can't even get offers from James Madison or Villanova. Bitched and moaned about only getting 3 reps at camp. Guess it only took our staff 3 reps to notice how horrible he was
7/1/2009 3:00:28 PM
Did anyone see the video of Torian Box on PP or read the Interview. I think we got a serious sleeper. He has incredible footwork and looks well polished already. Here's a teaser (it's a premium article, i don't wanna put out too much): "The [NCSU] coaches told me i was already faster than some of the OL they already have."
7/1/2009 3:02:04 PM
just read it, definately sounds legit.and he is a biiiiiiiiiiig boy too.
7/1/2009 3:25:41 PM
7/1/2009 3:59:55 PM
I said right after watching his video that I thought he had good footwork. I'm glad to know that I was right, as I'm sure our coaches have seen way more film on him than just the short highlight film that I saw. They've probably seen him in person too. Box's footwork is what definitely stands out. I kind of wonder how many more schools would have gone after him or how high he would be rated right now if the people at the Atlanta Scout.com Combine would have let him work out at OG (which is what he was supposed to be working out as) rather than forcing him to work out at DT.
7/1/2009 4:11:01 PM
the other cool thing is that when u watch the vid, whoever that kid locked up, either got pancaked or knocked on the ground, and at the very least, no one got away from him, LB's, DT's, DE's. I know its highschool, but if you can't dominate who you play against in highschool, there's no way you're going to a D-IA school in a major conference and do anything.
7/1/2009 5:42:32 PM
