Interesting study regarding power consumption:http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2007/02/21/wii-power-consumption-almost-immeasurable/
2/22/2007 9:46:12 AM
yeah, but what about the bigass TVs some folks play on
2/22/2007 11:16:01 AM
^well, that has nothing to do with that, it's the console consumption only. I'm not concerned with my bigass TV
2/22/2007 11:30:10 AM
Paul looks like Jeebus.

anybody hear when the next best buy shipment will be?
2/22/2007 11:29:45 PM
I was at Best Buy in Cary yesterday and they had Wiimotes, Nunchuks, and Classic Controllers.
2/23/2007 11:03:56 AM
^no wii's though???
2/23/2007 11:41:13 AM
^^ Holy Moly. Anyone been there since and seen Wiimotes?
2/23/2007 11:57:58 AM
Just when you think the Wii money train is over, the prices go back up on eBay... unreal. Also, anything associated with the Wii is an automatic cash machine. see: Wiimotes, nunchuks, and more recently, Wii Play.Thank you Nintendo!
2/23/2007 12:26:38 PM
^yeah, its amazingI have a feeling economists will be looking at the wii phenomena for years to come, nintendo is printing $$$ right nowEvery time the prices on ebay dip down towards 300 with shipping, they shoot right back up to 350-375 almost instantlyseems like the market for gamers paying $100 premium on ebay wouldn't be this big, but people keep feeding the beast by plunking down their $375 to johnnygamer69 who has a buddy at gamestop and bb to keep him in the wiis
2/23/2007 12:54:18 PM
Neo Geo games are being added to the VC in Japan. We could be seeing some Samurai Showdown and King of Fighters sometime soon.
2/23/2007 2:21:53 PM
^^,^^^thats crazy. that just shows the laziness of people. they would rather just click a button and pay hundreds more then take 45 minutes to go to a few stores.[Edited on February 23, 2007 at 2:36 PM. Reason : g]
2/23/2007 2:36:04 PM
BTW played the first couple of levels of Sonic and the Secret Rings. Pretty fun, occasionally frustrating. I'd recommend renting.
2/23/2007 2:38:07 PM
^^true, people are really lazy, if people stopped buying on ebay, there would be more om stores and finding one would take about 15 minutes

2/23/2007 8:03:16 PM
A lot of foolish posts were just made.
2/23/2007 8:09:28 PM
wow there Milton Friedman, just thought it was interesting enough for economists to look at. this will be a case study in a few years for MBA students....trust me. Didn't say it has never happened before, but there are a few unique elements with the wii that make it interesting.^and wow, you are such a bad ass to explain to everyone here that 100 "ain't shit" to some people, fine ....great fucking logic, but I guarantee that 100 bucks does make a differece to many people buying on EB, and regardless of what $100 is to you or me, or anyone else for that matter, the fact is that it is a %40 premium on the product we are discussing, so it is an economically relevant amount of money, regardless of your "big baller" theory that hundreds are dripping out of peoples asses
2/23/2007 10:43:50 PM
Why are you getting your panties in a way over an economic reality? I don't deny that $100 or 40% or 200 twinkies is a lot to some people. There are also some people who can and will pay more. What, exactly, are you crying about?

In response to many above posts:I bought my Wii on eBaY for $300 +SH a few weeks ago. I didnt think that was such a bad price considering I work 10+ hour days, 5 days a week, every other weekend, with easily over an hour commute every day. Factor in necessary partying, sleeping, and all the rest of life's responsibilities when Im not slaving to the job and theres very little free time left. I dont have the necessary time to camp out for a Wii right now or I would have. I've tried finding one locally for months and was told "mid february is when they will be on shelves". That obviously wasnt the case a few weeks ago and obviously still isnt now that its almost March! So, I payed some guy who has the necessary freetime and/or connections a bit extra to do the work for me and sell it to me on eBaY. I've spent more on shots for girls at white collar crime! I didnt like paying extra, but I dont see the big deal with it. Now, $375 on eBaY is too damn much, IMO.....Also for the record, MBA students (I am about to be one, though currently a working computer engineer) are business management/administration, but economics majors would definitely learn alot from the Wii example for a successful product launch. If it was such a largely known and studied way to go about a product launch, then PS3 and Xbox360 would have had the same success.... The way in which they went about targeting a consumer base, setting prices, timing releases of add-ons/software/upgrades/etc, and marketing the unique features of the product is certainly very interesting in the case of the Wii. I also would guess that they were surprised with the success it had, since they could not convince many developers to committ to the Wii until the numbers started to speak.Props to not only the techies, but the business and marketing ppl at Nintendo ! We should propose that they open labs on Centennial Campus with RedHat and the rest.

^I have my MBA, and I totally agree with you, mostly b/c I have been tracking prices, and they margins on ebay were all but extinguished, sales prices close to $300, then they have rebounded back to 375-400 multiple times, its frankly quite amazing, i really just meant that this would be a harvard case study one day, with a focus on the supply/demand economics, and flawless marketing of the systemI mean from what I can tell, the added a slight amount of fire power to the gamecube (which was a commercial failure) and a motion controler, did very, very limited amount of national TV advertising, relied on word of mouth, viral marketing, etc. to build the hype, and figured out a way to capture the ellusive "non-gamer" market. I read an article about a dude that went out to the lines in january and february (outside of bb, circuit city, etc.) and found out that 1/2-2/3 of the people waiting had not had a game system in the past 5-7 years. That is fucking impressive[Edited on February 24, 2007 at 11:58 AM. Reason : .]

i paid $300 for mine and thought that was more than fair, i dont have the time to go to all the storesmy last gaming system was a sega genesis [Edited on February 24, 2007 at 2:42 PM. Reason : .]

The thing that concerns me is looking on game reviews, all of the highest rated Wii games are purchases on the Virtual Console...I mean, i'm sure they're fun, but if I want to play legend of zelda, i'll pull out the SNES
2/24/2007 4:56:16 PM
Zelda, WarioWare (not sure why), Trauma Center and Madden all have good reviews. I'm also pretty hyped about SSX Blur on Wed.
2/24/2007 5:56:56 PM
I'm 6 for 6 on the everybody votes channel, suck it bitches
2/25/2007 1:22:45 AM
To me Trauma Center got old and retarded fast.
2/25/2007 3:15:04 AM
problem i had was trauma center got old real quick on the DS, i've played 2-3 wario wares all the way through in the last year or two, so thats kinda old and nothing else beyond zelda is that appealing.[Edited on February 25, 2007 at 10:10 AM. Reason : i was banking on mario party in march, but no]

2/25/2007 10:30:58 AM
exactly, how can you expect a new systems launch titles to stand up to some of the best games ever produced?
2/25/2007 10:40:59 AM
^^^,^^^^ Typical of launch titles. Didnt they work on Twilight Princess for 3 years (and it is soo amazingly badass isnt it)? How long do you think they worked on Trauma Center, Rayman, or that horrible Monkey Ball port? While I dont want to wait 2-3 years for the Mario Kart to come out, if it takes that long to do it right then that is a necessary sacrifice. Now that the developers are taking the Wii seriously enough, we will have solid games to play for it in 9-10 months. The only problem for us right now is that very few took the Wii seriously 9-10 months ago when the currently available games were in development. Trust the Nintendo "think tank", they are already showing signs of improvement with the system iteslf, so perhaps the game quality/selection will follow. You just cant expect too much at once from them because everyone thought the Wii would be a bust. While I dont think the game selection for the Wii will ever be on par with those of PS3 or Xbox360, $$ talks and the developers are licking their chops over Wii right now. PS3 sales are slumping and the Xbox 360 is sandwiched in the middle.[Edited on February 25, 2007 at 11:50 AM. Reason : sp]

I just did a system update and I didn't get this "Everybody Votes" channel, or whatever it is. I tried to see if there was another update to get, but there is not. Is it something I download from the store, because I think the store is down right now.
2/25/2007 11:57:41 AM
Yeah, you get it from the store.
2/25/2007 12:31:31 PM
^^ shrug, it doesnt really bother me, but it was worth noting. i just play wii sports and then go back to my 360 for COD3 online and GoW
2/25/2007 1:07:16 PM
the best thing xbox did was to release the 360 a year earlier than the wii
2/25/2007 1:59:42 PM
So knowing that OoT comes out tomorrow on the VC - what buttons on the classic controller will the four yellow buttons map to?
2/25/2007 3:36:42 PM
2/25/2007 4:25:03 PM
^^^ yep, guaranteed them $$ and better software selection for awhile.... (I bet they thought the Wii would do all the work for them to put Nintendo OOB anyways)^phunny ![Edited on February 25, 2007 at 4:31 PM. Reason : ]

2/26/2007 12:08:35 AM
^did they sell out?
2/26/2007 9:14:17 AM
Had a scary episode with the Wii this morning. My power flickered while I was on my PC and the whole thing shut down. It turned back on fine but I thought I'd go check on the Wii. The light on the front was off and pushing the power on the wiimote or the system didn't work. I tried unplugging everything and letting it sit for a minute, but that didn't work either. Finally I picked the thing up trying to look for some sort of master power switch (which I knew didn't exist, was just getting desperate) , and found a little screwed down compartment on the bottom. Popped that open and found what I assume is the thing's BIOS CMOS battery. After leaving that out for a few minute along with everything else unplugged, I hooked it all back up and it turned on fine. Crisis averted I guess.
