To be honest, I couldn't tell if he was saying, "Police. Get out of the way." or "Please, get out of the way."

I guess my naive nature here still just can't believe that, in this type of environment, a cop would say that knowing that filming is going on.

I think the degree to which police are interfering with peaceful protests is concerning. That they are stabbing water bottles and tipping over medical tables in Asheville and trapping protesters in alleys while they pelt them with tear gas and pepper spray in Charlotte.

I’m also at a loss how any individual could support the 2nd amendment, citing the duty to overthrow an unjust and unfair government, but not support the first phase of discourse with the government through freedoms of speech protected in the 1st amendment.

While I agree with what your point is, I think we’ve seen over and over that the cops have been pretty damn tone deaf during all of this. Attacking and a arresting media members (who themselves are holding cameras), inciting peaceful protestors, continuing to beat the shit out of protestors while being filmed...etc, etc. It’s amazing what they’re still willing to do while the entire nation watches.

Police behavior throughout all of this has definitely been concerning. They seem to relish the role of being the counter protestors in this case.

It's good that you guys are paying attention now but police behavior hasn't changed and minorities and leftists have been saying this since the beginning of time. Consider that there are some other things they may be right about that you should be paying attention to as well. Namely that police as a structural force in the US were founded to protect property (including slaves), that function has not changed, and the goal should be their abolition.

On the topic of police abolition....awesome to see a major US city seriously considering it.

https://twitter.com/MplsWard3/status/1267891892722831361

Quote :
"I don’t know yet, though several of us on the council are working on finding out, what it would take to disband the MPD and start fresh with a community-oriented, non-violent public safety and outreach capacity.

Our city needs a public safety capacity that doesn’t fear our residents. That doesn’t need a gun at a community meeting. That considers itself part of our community. That doesn’t resort quickly to pepper spray when people are understandably angry. That doesn’t murder black men.

We can totally reimagine what public safety means, what skills we’re recruiting for, what tools we do and don’t need. We can invest in cultural competency and mental health training, de-escalation and conflict resolution.

We can send a city response that makes situations better. We can resolve confusion over a $20 grocery transaction without drawing a weapon, or pulling out handcuffs.

The whole world is watching, and we can declare policing as we know it a thing of the past, and create a compassionate, non-violent future. It will be hard. But so is managing a dysfunctional relationship with an unaccountable armed force in our city."

It’s pretty low on the list of things that need major reform with the police...but hoo boy they seem to be pretty bad at crowd control. Or they’re intentionally inciting peaceful crowds just for the hell of it. Which wouldn’t surprise me either.

They were literally following orders, not to say they shouldn't be suspended/prosecuted, but to say the whole force should be.

And if that was you or me, we'd be in JAIL pending an investigation

If you shove someone and they die, you go to prison for a long time.

This is atrocious.

https://twitter.com/JulianCastro/status/1268761539756142592

Cop gropes her, she breaks hold, they shoot pepper spray balls, beat her legs with batons, and then tackle her to the ground.

And don't miss what's happening on the left to the other girl: push her down violently, then arrest her, even though she showed ZERO aggression and resistance of any kind.

Every morning I wake up to see dozens of new videos of cops continuing to be absolutely terrible at deescalation, continuing to assault protestors in the process of arrest (seems like it shouldn’t take 3 men beating a woman with batons to arrest her but idk), callously mistreating citizens of their own communities (shoving an old dude to the ground and then not even bothering to see if he’s ok), assaulting media members, using tactics to barricade in protestors and then tear gassing and arresting them, and even photos of cops with white nationalist tattoos and patches on their police gear. And that doesn’t even begin to encompass the systemic racism and widespread police brutality that minorities are subject to on an everyday basis. It absolutely blows my mind that somebody could be on the side of the cops in all of this. It’s been evident for years, but our police force is far too militarized and far to heavy handed in how they police. It’s not a case of a “few bad apples” because the fact that all of this goes unchecked shows that there is absolutely no accountability for the bad actors. Making them all culpable.

None of this is revelatory. But it is so fucking sad and frustrating.

I was thinking on this. If i sold a playstation to someone who paid me cash of which one bill was counterfit. Because on my p2p sales i dont mark bills. Should i be beat to death? I didnt even know. Now Im not saying this was the case but that should’ve been a consideration during the arrest. You don’t execute a man over a fake $20. Maybe he got scammed too. Turrible police brutality.

Don't see why 2 of the 4 cops are getting charged with aiding and abetting when the 2 of them were fucking sitting on the dude's diaphragm and heard the same pleas to not kill him and did nothing.

Only one that should get charged with aiding and abetting is the dude standing there watching the whole time and even that might be generous

That shit is exactly why the “it’s just a few bad apples” argument doesn’t hold water. Just because not all cops grossly abuse their power, if their peers don’t call them out on it (or worse, stage some form of protest in support of their shitty coworkers) then they are enablers.

Fire bad cops. That shouldn’t be a hot take. And fuck police unions.

Not my point, actually.

Cops are being caught all over the country abusing the fuck out of people by cell phone cameras, which is good, but if you're going to spout out acronyms that have been used by skinheads in the past, at least know the history behind it.

Frankly, I'm sick of seeing it spray painted all over Oakland. It tends to be spray painted right next to some other lovely phrases like:

"KILL ALL COPS" and that adorable circle A/anarchy symbol.
