They are bigger and better than us down low. You have to hit shots outside to beat that. And we didn't.
3/24/2012 12:53:35 AM
he fucked us on this one. tyler harris played more minutes than he has all year tonight. that is a problem.
3/24/2012 12:53:39 AM
^^^They are the shit because of the rest of that statement.
3/24/2012 12:54:00 AM
very credible... only if painter never sees the court again in our uniform.EVER again. HE fucked us over tonight
3/24/2012 12:54:34 AM
3/24/2012 12:54:45 AM
gottfried did great!!!!!
3/24/2012 12:54:47 AM
I thought Harris played decent tonight, although I don't understand why he wasn't getting TDTs minutes all year.
3/24/2012 12:55:10 AM
you have to knock him for that wood 3 late if that was the play call, and the timeout that made us throw it from the baseline.but still extremely credibledear gott, if you get leslie to say ill give 1000000 cred[Edited on March 24, 2012 at 12:55 AM. Reason : ^what game were you watching? harris was garbage]
3/24/2012 12:55:27 AM
he took us to the damn sweet sixteen, be realistic!!!
3/24/2012 12:56:33 AM
i was gonna disagree w/ you but then i saw all the exclamation points
3/24/2012 12:58:18 AM
what exactly were you expecting from harris? He got a few boards and played passable D and didn't make any bonehead plays. That's about all you CAN expect from a kid who has like 8 total minutes all damn year.
3/24/2012 12:58:32 AM
Painter fucked us over the most because he is a net negative player. Harris was not completely terrible out there, so that gives me hope that he can jump Painter in the pecking order. Howell at least rebounded this game (except for the critical possession...)Howell sucked bad, though. He was begging for foul calls by taking really desperate shots, and the calls didn't come. If he actually worked on his footwork and made strong moves, he would get more calls.Refs aren't going to call desperation plays. Stop begging for calls. Our bigs always play poorly when they beg for calls.Shooting is coming, and that's really good news. It's easy for the other team to just put their best defender on wood and let the other guys play 4 on 4.Overall, we achieved what we should have achieved with out talent, but damn if we couldn't win that game. Down 1 with a minute left, and the only real chances we got were a rushed 3 by wood and a 3 on 1 drive by Leslie with plenty of time left on the clock.[Edited on March 24, 2012 at 1:00 AM. Reason : .]
3/24/2012 12:59:36 AM
wait, so there are actually people who believe we should play guys who haven't played all season while trailing in the 2nd half of a sweet16 game against a top 5 team?
3/24/2012 12:59:56 AM
Terribly one-sided game but a good showing by the Pack. We came out hot and cooled off fast. We had the momentum going into the last stretch but something took the wind out of our sails. I don't know if it was fatigue or nervousness or what, but that game should have been ours if not for several boneheaded decisions. First, Leslie's attempt at a lay-up after getting the pass after Wood's missed 3. That play was sloppy and botched. If Leslie had stood his ground a split second longer he would have either drawn a foul or been in better position to go up with authority for the dunk. After that missed opportunity, it was another huge mistake by Howell at the air ball 3. Then Wood jumping out of bounds due to a botched pass (this was probably on the passer more than Wood - the pass was too high so Wood was pushed out of bounds).Overall we didn't play well (I mean we shot like 30%) but I think we came back well and made a really good attempt at bringing the game home but we just couldn't quite do it. Let's be honest though guys. Yeah, it's as disappointing as fuck to lose this game so closely. I'm pissed. Especially since I saw what I thought were a fuckload of boneheaded decisions and missed calls by the refs. Kansas was playing all over us a lot of that game but every time we'd put the pressure on them we'd get calls. But still...Losing to No. 2 seed Kansas by 3 in the Sweet Sixteen? That's a shit ton better than any of us expecting at the start of the season. We have a lot to be excited about. Have a few drinks tonight, yell about the officiating and the stupid boneheaded moves by our players in the last minute of the game with your friends. But tomorrow remember that we exceeded expectations and things are looking up for the Pack. +24,000,000 credibility for a 24 win season.
3/24/2012 1:00:21 AM
harris missed multiple point blank layupsbut if we want to be negative on a sub, how bout AJ?
3/24/2012 1:00:37 AM
we got farther than duke. he is a million times more credible.
3/24/2012 1:01:16 AM
Playing Harris over Painter was correct in that game. Painter wasn't doing shit. Playing painter and harris at the same time was dumb as shit.Besides, Harris played about as well as Painter. It's really telling when a freshman plays as well as a Junior.
3/24/2012 1:01:36 AM
Do you guys remember Les, herb and Lowe??GO PACK! Gott. We love you.
3/24/2012 1:01:55 AM
what's the game called where everybody runs around in a field protecting their genitals whilst trying to hit your knee into the genitals of others?

3/24/2012 1:02:36 AM
Harris came in because Painter was even more god awful than he has EVER been. He didn't know what the hell was going on, too caught up in the big stage.Harris looked solid and already seems to have put on weight. He is our future tayshawn prince, I'm excited.Him, Warren, and Vandenburg get all the back up post minutes next year, don't worry. Painter is finally done.
3/24/2012 1:02:38 AM
leslie was having a frustrating game, and the coach did the best he could.
3/24/2012 1:03:19 AM
^yup. harris has grown up. time to share with painter.
3/24/2012 1:03:37 AM
most wins in a season since the 80s. lost by 3 to a really good team while shooting 22% in the 2nd half.credible as fuck.
3/24/2012 1:04:37 AM
Let's not let all this painter vs harris talk deflect from the fact that we should have played Leslie more.Leslie did not foul out. He could have given us more minutes. We needed 1 more possession to win this game. Why sit our best player until it is too late? This has happened several times this year, and we haven't learned our lesson. Leslie with 4 fouls plays better than all of our bench players.[Edited on March 24, 2012 at 1:06 AM. Reason : .]

3/24/2012 1:21:36 AM
a lineup of harris painter and johnson has zero chance of competing with ANY tournament team.[Edited on March 24, 2012 at 1:25 AM. Reason : we were down 5 and they went to that lineup for the next 4 minutes. killed the game. down 11]
3/24/2012 1:25:12 AM
Put it this way. "He took a gamble that Leslie would be better able to close the game for NC State than Painter/Harris."Kansas didn't stretch their lead beyond a reasonable range. If that had happened he probably would have put Leslie in sooner. It's a guessing game in this situation. You try to figure how long it would take your starting lineup to get you pulled back at the end of the game. If Leslie goes in earlier and fouls out then you're stuck with Painter for the rest of the game (or even Harris) and at that point you may as well start heading back to the locker room. Funny thing is that for as much as you're bitching Gott was pretty obviously right about when to put Leslie back in. A few missed/bad shots in the last minute are what separated winning from losing in this game (well, that and Leslie getting sent to the floor when trying to drive the basket in traffic). With Leslie in the game the team actually had plenty of time to pull out a win and were just unable to.
3/24/2012 1:25:42 AM
^so damn true!
3/24/2012 1:27:33 AM
Good season but Gottfried was a fish out of water tonight. He didn't prepare our team for the opponent. Forcing it down low all game was suicide. Beyond that he panicked and benched Leslie while our season was slipping away.Johnson wasn't ready for the tournament he just couldn't do anything in all three games. Zobo as much as I love him choked bad. Wasn't even close to making a shot all night. Howell ugh. Goddammit man come on. Couldn't be satisfied as rodman he had to try to be carmelo and failed spectacularly. Never seen a guy play that bad offensively.Wood gave us a good effort he made his shots. I feel like he would've put up a good attempt if Howell hadn't glory hogged him at the end. Painter I can't speak about. Guy just wasn't ready, didn't do much of anything correctly.Harris. Too ridiculous to even talk about. What's his first name? Who is thus guy? Why did we bench a nba first rounder for him?Everyone can be excited for Gottfried now. That's easy. But be careful. These are big warning signs. He might have some serious coaching defects. I hope he adapts I really do.
3/24/2012 1:28:00 AM
^shut the fuck up! like you know how to coach a team
3/24/2012 1:29:55 AM
^^^^First, it's a myth that end game minutes are more important than mid game minutes.Second, there is a HUGE difference in being up with a minute to go and being down with a minute to go. That's how end game minutes are unequal because the team that is up has a huge advantage. By sitting leslie, you are conceding the fact that we are going to be playing from behind. Third, the fact that we lost the game is evidence that gottfried was wrong (unless your goal is to lose the game by a small margin rather than to win it). What if he had brought him in a minute earlier when we were down 5 (~8.5 mins left)? We would have been more likely to be up in the last minute, which favors the team that is ahead. Would you rather we be up in the last minute without Leslie, or down in the last minute with Leslie. This is again another clear answer. (Hell, Leslie wouldn't even be in the game anyway in a situation where they are forced to foul us.)[Edited on March 24, 2012 at 1:35 AM. Reason : .]
3/24/2012 1:34:52 AM
this coach did better than anyone expected![Edited on March 24, 2012 at 1:36 AM. Reason : .]
3/24/2012 1:36:15 AM
Remember when people trolled me midseason and said I didn't know what I was talking about with "foul trouble"Eat a dick. I was right all along and tonight it cost us a shot at the final four. You never bench a player in foul trouble. Ever. You are creating your own problems by playing inferior players against superior opponents.Strategy is important in sports , period. Conventional wisdom grounded in errors is not the way to coach in the 21st century.
3/24/2012 1:36:24 AM
^what's your coaching record? 0-0? really? STFU!
3/24/2012 1:37:45 AM
You want your best players available to close the game, what's so hard to understand about this?
3/24/2012 1:39:50 AM
^^^ He's doing a fine job. He just has to become educated about this particular aspect of the game. If he fixed this one thing, we win 2-3 more games this year, including this one? Small errors lead to big differences in outcomes. It's also well known that the coaching culture in all sports is pretty dumb and anti-intellectual until people who like evidence-based arguments drag them into the future. It's not a fantasy scenario where most of the coaches for a particular sport do the wrong thing as standard practice.^ show me the evidence. Actually, you want to win the game. Doesn't matter what players are in at the end of the game -- just as long as you are leading until they are forced to foul you. Then, you put in your best foul shooters, who may not even be your best players.[Edited on March 24, 2012 at 1:42 AM. Reason : .]
3/24/2012 1:40:34 AM
Funny time to use that logic. In the pregame I said I was nervous that Gottfried would force it down low all game and wed lose and pretend wr tried our best. I was right about that. Midseason I identified Gottfried s tendency to bench our players mid game. I was right about that. Maybe I shouldn't be the coach, but its not a stretch to think I should be an advisor. I seriously doubt it could hurt after a season where we made most of the same tactical errors every game
3/24/2012 1:40:43 AM
I have less nfl wins than rich kotite and Wayne fontes. Maybe I should never talk about football
3/24/2012 1:43:03 AM
It's also funny because we beat Georgetown largely because they benched their best player. When the other team does the wrong thing by benching a player in foul trouble and it helps us win a game, you guys don't even notice.I was really worried that their coach would try to win the game. Instead, georgetown took it really easy on us. If Sims came in, we just as easily could have taken really desperate shots to get him to foul out, causing us to lose the game.
3/24/2012 1:47:32 AM
aha, we lose and everyone goes back to squabbling
3/24/2012 1:48:05 AM
the team is built a certain way, and kansas matched up well. everyone knows that. coach gott prepared well for this and i was surprised it was 3 fucking point game.
3/24/2012 1:48:46 AM
also if you are going to bench leslie don't bench two other starters at the same time. you can't have a team with 5 good players and sit three of the five at the same time for extended minutes. kansas was +6 when johnson painterand harris were out there together. that play where painter and harris got rebounds then fell over each other was probably the biggest play of the game.
