The TA show on 4/25 was supposed to be at Kings, but apparently the university threw a huge guarantee at them. Sigh.

Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings killed it last night....great show with lots of energy. loved every minute of it. The Dap Kings were phenomenal
3/27/2011 11:39:16 PM
^I HATE that I missed that show. Had to work late to cover the hockey game, which sucks because I was looking forward to Sharon Jones for months.Tuesday at the Pour HouseConsider the SourceThey're playing another free show. The last one was amazing, and it would be rad if Raleigh would have a better showing than 20 or so people. Seriously, anyone even remotely interested in instrumental, prog, fusion, middle eastern, jazz, etc. should definitely check them out. Super nice guys as well.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtXf0Ji4X2g[Edited on March 28, 2011 at 1:11 AM. Reason : .]

I have only seen the Dap-Kings once. It was at old Kings, and I showed up on the recommendation of DJ Castro, not knowing who they were or having heard any of their music.Absolutely one of the three best shows I have ever seen, and so good that I'm afraid to see them again because I'm worried about being disappointed, despite it being clear that they kill it every night.
3/28/2011 3:09:08 AM
yeah, the Sharon Jones show was really fucking good.anyone going to see the Cave Singers tonight at Kings? i like their new one, but have yet to buy a ticket.i may roll up around show time and see if any are left at the door.
3/28/2011 6:16:03 PM
Yeah I was at the Sharon Jones show. It was pretty damn awesome. Talked to her quite a bit after the show too. She was really accommodating.

Have I talked on TWW about how much I love Spider Bags?I love Spider Bags. A lot.

New Raleigh pulled an April Fool's joke that Flaming Lips were playing downtown on the 31st. That is not a real date. Would've been awesome...^ Me, too. Favorite local band (along with Megafaun).[Edited on April 1, 2011 at 5:40 PM. Reason : .]

explosions in the sky sunday in charlotte - there.
4/1/2011 9:38:11 PM
warpaint was awesome. way better than expected...super glad i went.self-entitled scenester lesbians...NOT awesome. not a fan. over you.
4/4/2011 1:33:01 AM
don't forget about the glowstickersworst trend ever
4/4/2011 1:39:20 AM
speaking of terrible trends, i went to amos' southend for explosions in the sky last night. the band and the show were fantastic, but security at amos' is the most aggressive bunch i've ever seen anywhere. i've only been there a few times, but it seems like they're always yelling violently at people, even when there's really no reason for it. they seem like the kind of guys that would be super eager to start knocking heads. it's ridiculous and it puts a damper on the show every time i've been at amos'.i mean, it's explosions in the sky. i don't think you're in danger of a riot on any scale. everything is under control without you guys screaming at the top of your lungs every two seconds. just had to get that off my chest. one of the many reasons i don't like going to charlotte.other than that, though, i had a good time at the show. explosions in the sky are a very good band live.
4/4/2011 9:12:19 AM
^I was there too. Those dudes have some energy. Wish it was a little longer though.
4/4/2011 9:36:51 AM
loved that Explosions show. Octopus Project were pretty cool, too.

so i heard about these scenester lesbians at the warpaint showwhere were they six weeks ago when warpaint played?last night i ran into a very drunk dude who had just purchased three warpaint CDs and couldn't stop talking about how awesome they were...but he was also very upset that tiesto didn't play his favorite songlolwut
I went in to that Warpaint show thinking it would just be mediocre but they killed it. Super tight musically.

The Love Language @ Slim'sMay 3rd, 4th, 5th, & 6th$10 a night or $32 for all four
4/4/2011 2:18:01 PM
I got my tickets for 5/6
4/4/2011 7:01:31 PM
just so it's clearevery night will be a vastly different set
4/5/2011 4:29:48 AM
i guess i get the back to the dive bar concept, but why 4 nights slims? They could just as easily do a kings / motorco / 506 run or something like that, all significantly better venues and they'd still fill out each place.
4/5/2011 1:39:08 PM
don't they have like 20 songs? I guess they're working on new ones
4/5/2011 1:41:53 PM
If the setlists are really going to be "vastly different," I bet there will be a lot of covers. Even if they're working on new songs, I doubt they have like 20 new songs. Just an odd idea all around. I'm sure they'll pack Slim's to the rafters all four nights, though, so I guess mission accomplished.
4/5/2011 2:10:47 PM
more like money accomplished AMIRITE
4/5/2011 2:17:56 PM
Love Language is great, but all 4 nights would be too much. In for friday.[Edited on April 5, 2011 at 3:58 PM. Reason : too much love language, not too much money][Edited on April 5, 2011 at 3:59 PM. Reason : but theres never enough missy thangs]
4/5/2011 3:57:41 PM
In for Friday here as well.
4/5/2011 4:33:03 PM
I guess "vastly different" might be hyperbole, but if six songs are different every night in a 15 song set, or songs are rearranged in order with original segues for different arrangements, that's a pretty significant set difference compared to a touring band that plays the same thing every night with one or two changes based on mood. Also, at least one set will be all covers. In addition to that, I'd bet that if you go all four nights, you may hear a new song the first night and again on the third night, and it will already have changed dramatically. Of course they could play a bigger room/do a run in a bigger room at this point, but the idea behind doing it this way is to have fun with a small, appreciative group that won't mind if some stuff falls apart or they try something wacky and fail at it.
4/5/2011 6:07:45 PM
I mean I love all those guys and everything but can't imagine why anyone would want to go to all 4 nights. good for Slims though.
4/5/2011 6:44:15 PM
Wait so there will or will not be tambourine on all four nights?
4/5/2011 7:02:42 PM
No way in hell I'm paying 10 dollars to see ANYBODY at Slim's...
4/5/2011 7:16:10 PM
There will me multiple tambourines
4/5/2011 7:49:26 PM
