Spookyjon, it would be RETARDED for Nintendo to release all of those titles at once. The Wii did amazing without them, and releasing them all at once leaves nothing for anyone to buy for a long time. So you'd have like 20 games to buy all at once and not enough time to enjoy them, plus then Nintendo would have a long dry period with nothing even halfway decent.

I think the problem is that the system is still basically running at full speed when it is in so called "standby" mode. If you go touch the thing you'll see the fan is still running and everything. I didn't realize this the other night and I had it sitting flat on top of a couch while in "standby" mode. This left the bottom vent covered up and a couple hours later when I went to move it, the thing was nearly hot enough to cook food. I'd assume these overheating issues people are having are probably similar to this, where they store the thing inside a closed space or something while it's in "standby" mode, not realizing the system is basically still on and needs to have the same ventilation as normal.

Mother 3 came out in japan last april. If you understand japanese, you can order it from http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-67-49-en-15-mother+3-70-13ba.html
apparently the guys at starmen.net are working on a full translation that I suspect would be released as a rom patch.

Just got my Wii and havent gone online with it yet.

Can anyone comment on the wireless vs. the wired connection speed & stability?

I want to go wireless and have the router already, but I am also the kind of snob that cant stand the speed/stability issues that come with wireless ethernet for my PC (bittorrent, etc).

Does the Wii require that much bandwidth where wireless becomes a hindrance? Any issues with wireless signals using the Wii Wireless adapter?

Does anyone know if you can use any USB wireless adapter or do you have to use the Wii one? Does the Wii Wireless communicate on a b/g signal or something phunky?

Thanks so much if anyone can help me tackle these Q's.....

as far as speed goes on the connection.... I use wireless (11mg/s) and there seems to be no hindrance in speed... I downloaded Super Mario 64 the other day which I assume to be one of the larger downloadable files for the system in under a minute.... so using wireless doesnt seem to be annoying at all... as far as the usb wireless adapter... I'm pretty sure you have to use the wii one but I'm not completely sure

It just uses a standard 802.11b/g wireless adapter. I have it connected to a pretty old 802.11b wireless linksys with WEP encryption and MAC filtering on. It's worked more or less flawlessly, and when using the internet browser it doesn't feel slow at all loading pages. Download speeds from VC and system updates seem kinda rough, but I really don't know how much its actually downloading as everything is in "blocks". Does anyone know the block to byte conversion rate?

Streets of Rage was the double dragon like game for Genesis, IMO one of the best series for that type of side scrolling beatem up kinda game.

also donkey Kong Country is getting put up today i believe

man. all these vc games comin out and i still haven't bought one of em.

that's mostly b/c i've hardly made a dent in zelda, only played a season in madden, and still have tons of pros left to get in wii sports.

and that's mostly b/c i've had so much school work.

and b/c i still play battlefield 2142.

It is a shame that Resident Evil 5 is going to be Xbox 360/PS3 only. Although I'm sure thats just because the Wii simply lacks the graphical muscle to do everything they want to do with that game. A shooter like that though, where you have to stop moving to point and shoot would have been perfect for the Wiimote control scheme. I think they are making some sort of RE game for the Wii, but I'm not paying for some shitty rehash of an old title with Wiimote controls tacked on.

Guys, the Wii isn't out of the woods yet.

Yes, it's been a tremendous success so far, exceeding all expectations + such.

Let me preface this next comment by stating that I own a Wii + love it, currently my fav system (I also own a PS3). However:

I see some serious problems in the long run for Nintendo. They didn't give this thing enough horsepower (yeah, the graphics are passable now, but what about in 3-4 years? The Wii will NOT be able to keep up). I know "graphics don't make the game", but let's face it: they are important.

They will also have to figure out a way to make the Wiimote more than just a gimmick. Out of all the launch games, there are maybe 2 or 3 that make GOOD use of the remote, the rest are definitely tacked on and not fun to play. The majority of games so far have been mini-game type collections, which is fine since this is all new to us... but what about in the long run? How well will the control scheme hold up for conventional games?

I am trying to be optimistic, but Nintendo still has a long way to go until this system is a clear cut winner. Their track record w/ Gamecube and N64 (to a lesser extent) make me a little nervous.

^nobody said they were out of the woods....seems like there are enough games coming out to keep this thing going for 2-3 more years at least

all i am pointing out is the folks on here that thought this thing would flop off the bat, it is probably created the most frenzy for any product in the the last 10 years....i mean beanie baby/tickle me elmo type craze for 3 solid months now!

If the PS3 continues the way it is, third party developers aren't gonna make any games for it. Third party interest for the Wii has picked up immensly in the past few months so I would expect that there will be a lot more longer (non mini-game compilations) in the coming years. Also, take a look at Twilight Princess and you can see just how wondefully done a long ass game can be on the Wii.

both are ok, but they have a low shelf life.

I agree with the whole wii assesment though - i haven't seen the 3rd party titles announced yet to even get any hopes up. kinda woried it's gamecube v1.5. I own one and i like it (it's worth the money although barely) but I wish they'd beef their launch list up. It's not very good. Get some damn RTS on it for starters....get a Sim City, stuff that would benefit from the remote.

Anyone seen sonic and the secret rings review around? curious to see how the game turned out

Did I say that? Well, I was totally wrong. In all fairness, I said it more than 6 months before the release date. I didn't know that the remote would have so many motion sensing uses, that the console would be produced high and priced low, that Zelda would look so awesome. Thank goodness they had the sense to launch with a killer game.

I have had the Wii about a month now. The Wii sports game definitely show what the console can do. The range of motions the wii can react too are far better than the basic yet acceptable ones used in Wii Sports, so I think it will only be a matter of time before everyone catches on. I am looking forward to Tiger Golf. I really hope the come out with a more realistic baseball game (I dont even like baseball, but I am enjoying it on the Wii)

i think the big tests for the wii are going to be tiger woods and metroid prime.

if they can create a golf game (or any sports game...like boxing maybe?) that really feels like the remote is directly responding to your movements, and a fully fledged online FPS that can bridge the gap between consoles and PCs, then I think the gameplay will completely make up for any loss in graphics

so far i've been dissapointed in the fact that the wii doesn't really create any real-time one to one movements, and I don't know if that's going to be possible, or if that will have to wait till Wii2

as far as the future library of wii games, i think the huge success it's had, especially launching at the same time as the PS3, has piqued the interest of a lot of 3rd party developers. So if we give them a couple of years to get some out, I don't think games will be a problem

Compared to most launch lists, the Wii has a good selection. It released with a flagship title and had many other original goodies. Most other systems usually try to pawn off ports from the last generation with even less features during their launch. The Wii launch was fine, the months afterward need work.

Quote :

RTSs typically have fizzled on consoles. They have always had the most success on PCs. With the success of the Wii and its unusual control scheme, some of those companies may be coerced into coming over.

Wii Baseball does it pretty well. I love the fact that I can whirl the bat around while I wait for a pitch.

Reviews are trickling out for Sonic and the Secret Rings. It seems to be scoring in the 7-8 range mostly. IGN says it's the best 3D Sonic yet, but they also gave it a 6.9. I'm picking up my copy tomorrow.
