Relax. Its high school. 16-19 year olds are old enough to filter out my crazy.

He'll never achieve the subtle elegance in trolling that TOB had, but who gives a shit as long as the program elevates.

I really enjoyed that interview

definitely + cred for getting frasier to flip from FSU. Alabama type talent that was promised in his intro press conference. lol
1/25/2015 9:47:41 AM
+ credibility for keeping all these kids in state tooWe're becoming the legit destination for big time NC recruits

I liked the hire when Yow made it but I'm still baffled by the first season. I wasn't expecting us to be good or even average but some of the decisions were mind boggling. None of it matters now. He's got us on the right track.
1/25/2015 2:16:49 PM
^ yeah, i agree with that. i've been optimistic about DD from the get go, but some of his decisions were very strange. looking back, i kinda wonder if he knew how bad our talent was and figured he had to gamble some to win. he showed this year that he could adjust, given how little (if any) we ran the wildcat after the first few weeks.
1/25/2015 2:28:15 PM
last two posts sum my opinion up as well.

those users quoted above have no doubt changed their tunes, but i'm sure HCH probably still thinks we'd be better of with TOB.[Edited on January 25, 2015 at 2:31 PM. Reason : ]

Looking back on season 1 and realizing we did not have a D1 quality QB, my memories of that season are less jaded. Next year will be the real test as most of the TOB leftovers will be gone and we have a shot at 8-9 wins. Fulfilling expectations continues to be the downfall of every NC State coach and pretty much any coach anywhere other than Herb at ASU.
1/25/2015 9:29:26 PM
I kinda feel like since he knew we sucked year 1, he just did random shit to see what would work.
1/25/2015 9:32:27 PM
Idk, hard to make sense of the kickoff timeout

I forgot that Brandon Mitchell was a person
1/26/2015 3:07:41 AM
He did the only thing he could really do that first season when we knew we didn't have a QB...he played as many of his guys and weeded out a bunch of TOB's guys. We were going to be horrible, why not just start playing all the youngest guys on the teams and build for the future? Seems to be working, setting up really nicely if McClendon can live up to the hype.

Our QBs last year were so fucking bad. It's amazing we won the few games we did (and were somehow in a few of the other games until the end).We were playing a different system, with bad QBs, and a pretty severe lack of talent from TOB's dwindling recruiting. Last year was just a shit-storm of problems that led to that record. He made some questionable coaching decisions, but I truly believe he was in, "I will try anything to get a first down" mode.

Definitely wasn't the worst ever. And I'm just saying I think it was silly how many people were ready to ditch him after just one season. I don't think we're going to seriously compete with Florida St and Clemson every year, but once we get the right recruits up to full strength and experience DD at least gives us a shot.
1/26/2015 11:11:40 PM
He went an unprecedented 0-8 in conference his first season. Of course people aren't going to be optimistic after that kind of season. Our fans freak out if we miss a 3 pointer.]

Well, the way we finished this season as well as some of the recruits we landed recently should give people hope moving forward. But lack of talent or not, 0-8 is going to naturally turn people off to what he can do in the future until he shows us something better (which he did). Any fanbase would be livid over a winless conference record, let alone our fanbase.
1/27/2015 4:37:14 PM
I agree, we are fairly delusional
1/27/2015 4:51:55 PM
extended to 2019 @ $2.2M per according to McMurphypretty typical - gives him recruiting pitch of "I'm under contract through your senior year even if you redshirt" and a 10% raise
2/20/2015 11:29:31 AM
nice recruiting pull, but let's not bet the farm yet
2/20/2015 1:36:17 PM
Dude is 3-13 in the ACC and just got a $400,000 raise and extension.I like where it looks we are currently headed, but damn this better work out.

Stats, like bikinis, fail to tell the whole story
2/20/2015 1:49:05 PM
im not sure about the 2 year extensionif he's good: still not enough to prevent the SEC from buying him outif he's bad: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/acc/2014/11/26/college-football-virginia-mike-london-return-2015-craig-littlepaige/19546397/I wouldve rather waited til midway through next year and given him an enormous extension if things looked good.I do like the incentives that are thrown in and Yow probably knows more than my dumb ass about how likely he is to leave with another big year or two, though.
2/20/2015 2:27:37 PM
Anything less than 8-4 next year will make this look like a pretty bad deal.
2/20/2015 2:37:50 PM
I guess I trust that Yow knows what she's doing, but this makes no sense to me at all.
2/21/2015 7:36:32 AM
If you only take into consideration two years of on-field results, which is all some people care about, then yeah it doesn't make a ton of sense. IMO if you also consider how much he turned the team around this past year, what he's done with recruiting, how this helps us with future recruiting, how it makes him harder to poach away from NCSU, and how it helps give the rest of the football staff a little security, this is easier to understand. There are still 44 P5 coaches being paid more than him, so it's not exactly like we're breaking the bank for DD.Link to New Contract Details: http://northcarolinastate.scout.com/story/1519397-incentives-could-enhance-doeren-s-contract?s=178[Edited on February 21, 2015 at 8:07 AM. 2/21/2015 7:57:57 AM
yeah the two main motivations in this I believe are 1) if we have a great year next year and his contract hadnt been touched he'd be gone because the buyout would be small and 2) 1.8m is relatively cheap in today's marketit's odd for me that we wait until after the recruiting season to do this, though. TOB nightmare aside, pulling in ~30 ranked classes doesnt mean much to me until theyre on field. see: unc for the last 10 years, and that's with guys who didnt have to go to class
2/21/2015 10:18:53 AM
I'm really excited about this move that Yow made. He has the potential to do something good here. Also, I don't see why anyone would want to poach him. He hasn't done anything impressive enough to poach him and there are plenty quality coaches with a better resume.
