Of course I decide to root my Incredible today, and cant find the proper USB cable anywhere in the office. Nobody else has one here either.Have to wait till I get home, bah!

Decided to return my Evo while within the 30 days. It had some hardware issue with the Wifi sleep function, and while I was getting great battery life on Wifi, it sucked on 3G. So if they're not back in stock by the time the Epic comes out (probably ~Aug 20), I'll probably pick up one of those.Or...Any word on when the Droid 2 is coming out?
7/30/2010 5:36:54 AM
Was up til 4am last night rooting my phone and putting the wireless tether stuff on it. Had to do a little work on the Incredible to make it work in Infrastructure mode with WPA2, but it works like a damn champ now.Didn't do the 2.2 update, and will just go back to stock once the actual 2.2 update hits, and then root again if VZW blocks the hotspot functionality.
7/30/2010 8:11:26 AM
^^ the Epic looks nice from the little i've seen so far. What's Samsung's record on phones? I have a tv by them, but haven't used a phone by them before.

Damn, just realized: the Droid X is considered the flagship and not the Droid 2? WTF? The original Droid was the first really great, popular Android phone. Plus, Droid X doesn't have Qwerty. Did everyone really buy into Chairman Jobs's crap about touchscreens being better than Qwerty?
7/30/2010 1:13:37 PM
^having used both I much prefer touchscreens. Heck I like and am faster on the touchscreen on my old LG Dare better than the physical qwerty on the Droid.[Edited on July 30, 2010 at 1:26 PM. Reason : ]
7/30/2010 1:25:51 PM
The droid 2 is not going to have the specs of the x.
7/30/2010 1:26:27 PM
Aside from the 4.3" screen, the specs are identical iirc (same processor, same app memory, etc). Only other difference is that the Droid 2 has a physical keyboard and will come with an 8GB MicroSD card instead of a 16.
7/30/2010 3:31:18 PM

Bah. Been waiting for my order to go through for the phone and new plan. Finally called Verizon and the reason the order hasn't gone through yet is because of something with switching to a smart phone plan or some BS. They told me the order wouldn't go through until the billing cycle starts over which is August 5th even though I talked to them before like July 21st and put the whole thing through online.Meanwhile the ship date for the X has slipped from August 1st to the 11th while I've been waiting. Boo. No big deal, I'm just getting impatient
7/30/2010 6:51:14 PM
I hope I don't have to wait longer than a weekend for unrevoked or other dev to patch this OTA. OTA is here for Evo btw, if you don't care about root that is.
7/30/2010 7:51:57 PM
i got a thing in the mail from Verizon today saying i can upgrade early for the promotional discount ($200 after rebate for droid X) for any smartphoneotherwise i can't upgrade until 6/6/11is this a common thing or does it likely have a bunch of strings attached (new 2 year contract is obvious)

7/30/2010 8:52:10 PM
^I've read that thread but there is speculation that Ava's isn't actually the build that unrevoked got a couple hours ago and the one that's on HTC's site. I think they used a leaked "official" build from a couple of days ago.

7/30/2010 10:21:30 PM
It's 269.99 on a 1 yr contract for regular customers. Verizon does annual upgrades on voice plans >49.99 so pretty much any of the plans other than the regular 450 min plan. Only available for the primary line on family plans.]

i wish someone could one touch root my phone

7/30/2010 11:31:14 PM
How the hell is Verizon cheaper than Sprint? I think pay 130 out the door for 2 android phones (1 evo) 1500 ATs, insurance on both, and unlimited everything else. That said, the one touch root applications seem to only offer root. You can't unlock NAND and therefore can't flash custom roms. That correct?--Oh I actually misread your post. Basically you were unhappy with the handset and now are willing to chop your plan and give up perks to use a motodroid? I guess Verizon might possibly be cheaper if you're going to give up half your anytime minutes. [Edited on July 30, 2010 at 11:39 PM. Reason : .]
7/30/2010 11:37:35 PM
^^ no. You can get the annual upgrade with a 2 yr contract. So on a 2 yr contract, you're eligible to upgrade at the 2 yr contract price after 12 months on voice plans >49.99. On a 1 yr contract, you'd be eligible to upgrade after 10 months. I'm sure they have some sort of qualifying period so you can't just switch to a higher plan, upgrade and then switch back but I haven't seen anything official on that.^ yeah. The Droid is the only one that it will actually flash a custom recovery on.]

7/31/2010 1:25:48 PM
is that what you use? is that the best ROM out there for us grandmaster?
7/31/2010 2:45:52 PM
tbh, it's the first and only custom rom I've tried so far, but I definitely like it. When I rooted, Cyanogen had not ported anything yet for the Evo and I don't remember what turned me off on DamageControl, but I basically sorted the development thread on XDA by views/replies and went from there. toast's involvement with fresh is what drew me to it. I threw flipz 5 bucks and now i'm on the mailing list and get pretty regular updates. He should have his 2.2 kitchen out pretty soon.A lot of people in here seem to use CM, so if you have no attachment to Sense, it might be worth it to check that out at some point.

I've used google checkout when buying from other retailers and haven't had a problem. But...
8/1/2010 2:50:15 PM
^ditto.I've bought 2 or 3 apps on the market as well as used Google Checkout for maybe 10 other items online and never had a problem.
