60 points on Denver's defenseI don't really recall any TWWers doing this (maybe one or two), more people on my facebook feed...but I wonder if any of the people who were like "rawr how dare the Panthers let Steve Smith go, I'm no longer a fan of this team" are fans again?[Edited on January 27, 2016 at 9:10 AM. Does anyone on here really think people don't like Cam because he's black?
1/28/2016 10:52:34 AM
yes. he's not only black, he's black at a position dominated by boring white dudes. he's cocky and he has fun. old white men hated Ali for being black and cocky (as well as his position on the military and conversion to islam) I mean, I doubt these people are actively racists, going out of their way to discriminate against minorities. But a large majority of the hate he gets is do to his skin color, his attitude only makes it easier.NO ONE hated Rodgers for his championship belt celebration. No one hated Cousins for yelling "YOU LIKE THAT!"But Cam dances and he's horrible, doesn't play the game the right way etc. [Edited on January 28, 2016 at 11:09 AM. They don't like him for the same reason they don't like players like Manziel, Terrel Owens, Ray Lewis, etc.:1) Because they're really good (Manziel in college)2) Because they're cocky and they show itYou're universally loved if you're really good and not cocky. Peyton Manning, Michael Jordan, Derek Jeter, Barry Sanders (holy shit, two black guys!), Joe Montana, etc. People hate on winners, but they can't actively hate until the person gives them a reason too...like showboating. It's really that simple. I'm normally on the side of people making it a race issue...but it simply isn't the case here.People really liked Randal Cunningham, btw...and they obviously like Russell Wilson as well.
1/28/2016 11:25:55 AM
eh, it's definitely about race to some people, no doubt (thug newton). but to others, it's not.(and michael jordan wasn't cocky?!!? but i know what you mean.)
1/28/2016 11:28:49 AM
Michael Jordan talked shit...but he didn't yell and scream after every dunk (he did give a few stare downs) or throw up three fingers after every made three. He was cocky...but didn't showboat nearly as much as other NBA players. I think you can easily say that Cam Newton showboats more than any player in the NFL right now...probably in history.
1/28/2016 11:31:10 AM
Chad Johnson and plenty of other wideouts did a lot more showboating than Cam. But they're just wide receivers. Some people think "well a QB is the leader, he shouldn't do that" which is also a part of itAlso, they hate us cause they anus[Edited on January 28, 2016 at 11:35 AM. Reason : .]

Any player you can think of do a set routine after every first down? EVERY. SINGLE. FIRST. DOWN.And yes...the 2nd part of the formula is being very good. If Cam sucked, then people would just laugh. People are haters.[Edited on January 28, 2016 at 11:36 AM. Reason : .]
1/28/2016 11:35:54 AM
You realize it's every single rushing first down, not every time he throws a pass, right?and there was actually one time when he didn't do it, maybe in the Giants game, on the game winning drive, because he knew he didn't have time to do it. so technically not every time![Edited on January 28, 2016 at 11:41 AM. you can't compare how people expect an NBA player to act with how people expect an NFL QB to actanyways, Steph Curry is just as cocky as Cam and he's universally lovedyou can act however you want when you're a transcendent athlete

well...obviously not every person that dislikes Newton is a raging, cross-burning racist. but it's obvious, to me, that there's an element of racial undertone to some of the hate he gets. Tom Brady loses his shit on the sideline and it's because he's a fiery competitor. Cam Newton dances a little too long after a TD and he's a thug. the double standard is dumb as fuck. the QB position is traditionally a white position where you don't see a ton of "flashy" behavior. which is why a guy like Russell Wilson or Teddy Bridgewater don't get the hate that Newton does even though they're all black. it's not an overt racist attitude toward him. maybe it's more of a cultural thing than strictly black/white racism. but i think it definitely exists to a degree. i think this article does a good job of describing my feelings http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/14559236/carolina-panthers-quarterback-cam-newton-unlike-qb-nfl

^ so much of that is attributed to the fact that they're playing an extremely demanding physical sport. A football game/season/career is a grind and players have to do whatever it takes to get themselves pumped up between plays. I tend to let a lot of the on the field stuff slide due to that fact but the sideline stuff always gets me. The Dez type behavior is infuriating as a fan

^^^yeah...i don't think there's anything wrong with disliking Cam because his celebrations rub you the wrong way. that's fine. but it's beyond idiotic when people try to justify their dislike of Cam on some moral high ground..."he stole a laptop in college" "he is selfish, me-first punk" and "he has no class" or shit like that. mostly, i just wish more people would say "i don't like newton because his dancing annoys me" instead of attempting to justify it with baseless reasoning. not to mention the double standard of those same people ignoring when guys like JJ Watt dance and showboat after every sack.in the steph curry argument, i think he is still riding the "underdog" role. everybody fell in love with him during davidson's unexpected tourney run and never expected him to be NBA MVP. so i think he has that going for him. Cam, on the other hand, was a highly rated recruit, went to the SEC, won the Heisman, won the national title, was the #1 pick.[Edited on January 28, 2016 at 12:04 PM. nobody disliked Aaron Rodgers for the Discount Double Checkthis is why race is an absolute factor
1/28/2016 12:13:04 PM
I think if he did a discount double check every time he ran for a first down, you'd see more people dislike him. Does he even do it that much anymore? After TDs?And personally, I think he's a little cocky. I don't dislike him, but I'm not a fan either.

To me, it's the first downs that put it over the top.I could give two shits about TD celebrations...because the majority of players do them. I use to love seeing what TO could come up with. Cam's Superman is pretty solid, IMO.But the need to have to do your first down routine after EVERY. SINGLE. [rushing] FIRST. DOWN. is a bit much. I think the people who don't like him will just start pointing to everything to prove the prove their point....ripping down opponent flags, TD celebrations, towel on his head (which is fucking retarded...what exactly is wrong with that), sideline demeanor, press conference demeanor, etc. But I think the bottom line is that he goes a little overboard...and I think he'll admit that.People didn't start hating Manziel until he started making the money sign and in general just got way too fucking cocky. People didn't hate TO in San Fran in the early years...then he became a great WR and did the Dallas midfield thing and started going nuts in the endzone and in press conferences.Difference in the Cam situation is that they actually did dislike him earlier...but to their defense, he had the whole "highest bidder" situation at Auburn and laptop stuff at Florida.I guess I'm just seeing all the hate as justified...and not because of race.[Edited on January 28, 2016 at 12:55 PM. Did I ever say that I liked him? You're trying too hard. He's also improved at public speaking. He was abysmal in press conferences at Auburn.I stand by my current opinion and everything I said in the past. I was definitely wrong on the draft pick...but I honestly didn't think he was a good passer at Auburn...and he was wildly in consistent in his first couple years with the Panthers. He's definitely improved and props to him for that.
1/28/2016 1:33:09 PM
at the very least you'd have to admit that it's refreshing to have a superstar QB who doesn't shy away from being himself as opposed to being a robot like Russell Wilson, right?
1/28/2016 2:10:16 PM
It's not easy to get a 1st down.
1/28/2016 2:10:51 PM
^^ Russell Wilson's a weird dude and I'm not religious. I don't even know what to think about him.I'm a Philip River's man myself...and a ton of people think he's a fucking tool.
1/28/2016 2:22:35 PM
Philip is 100% genuine Russell is notCam and Phil have a lot in common when it comes to their personality
1/28/2016 2:27:34 PM
I don't know if you can say that Russell is not genuine. It's really hard to tell with extremely religious people. Like you can say all the Ciara stuff is BS...but if he's truly not fucking her...then its genuine, right? And if he truly thinks that God has a hand in everything that happens...then when he says that God caused that interception in the SB for a reason...then that's genuine. It's not like he's Mike Vick and thanking God for giving him another shot at playing football. He actually appears to practice what he preaches. I mean, I guess you could say that his contract/salary situation would be the one big thing that flies in the face of his godliness...but we all gotta get paid, right?Regardless...I'm not a fan of his persona, but I love watching him play. He was a fucking blast to watch play at NC State as well...which will always make me an extra fan.

^^i pretty much agree with what you said about RW. dude is weird and i can't tell how genuine he is..honestly, i don't really care that much. i think he does seem to care a lot more about his image and stuff like that than Rivers or Newton, for example. wilson has always been more image-conscious (and that's not a knock)...where a guy like Cam or Rivers both seem to wear their emotion on their sleeve and let their personality shine through more.
1/28/2016 3:12:56 PM
I dont know how anyone could say they don't know if Russell is genuine if they've ever heard him speak beforehe's a walking cliche. look up his answer when asked about Eminem a few years ago. he's an absolute robot.
