but, this time, i really thought state would win, hands down. instead, they get trampled. i know it as by a few point in OT, but state should have killed ecu this year. this loss hurts.

i'll forever be a state fan, but this one let me down.

That's the real problem I have, it doesn't matter how shitty a defense is, they look top notch against our offense.

Russell can't scramble away from the fast enough anymore
our running backs get arm and leg tackled with no ability to run through (I know, MOOSE is a freshman)
Our "top in the nation" receiving corp can't ever seem to get open in a reasonable amount of time
Russell consistently gets sacked (most times in the ACC) waiting for these plays to develop
Russell throws long hail mary interceptions hoping things are going to magically go well like they used to.
Russell zeroes in on receivers before plays even start and throws into double and triple coverage when, sometimes, people are in other places on the field WIDE OPEN.

Our offensive coordinator runs the same three or four plays all day.
After making a ten yard gain up the gut on the first play of overtime, he follows up with sweeps to the left and right that get us nothing, and then (when we have two downs left and lots of open field) he calls a play into the endzone instead of getting us positive yards.
The passing plays he calls either A. take forever to develop, or B. are so obvious even the 114th defense in the nation can cover down on them.
He refuses to make up for a lack of natural talent with out of the ordinary tactics/good coaching. Since we don't have the best offensive line in the ACC, we eat it constantly and he CHANGES NOTHING.


Not only do we need to fire our horrible, horrible offensive coordinator, we need to start playing Glennon. I feel like he will at least show up every game, I feel like he will make smarter decisions with the ball, and I think he will stop throwing stupid passes to non open receivers and taking away even our minimal chances of winning games.

It needs to be done.

Does it seem like he tries too hard to pass now? Dude needs to bolt when he has a chance and all he does now is force shit all game. He used to take what the defense gave him but not anymore. Not sure if that is a product of the coaches essentially neutering him or he is trying too hard to be a pocket passer.

there were several throws under 10 yards I can remember. Most notably the 5 yard pass we threw on 3rd and 6.

I dont know what to say about this game anymore, our defense looked like garbage early on and got us into a hole quickly. But Tenuta and Archer made the necessary adjustments and looked great in the 2nd half.

I remember a time last year and early this year where I was confident that our offense could score everytime we had the ball. We have two great WRs, the 2nd best TE in the country, two young, explosive RBs who can make plays out of the backfield catching the ball, along with numerous reserves who come off the bench and make plays. But, for some reason, when it comes down to crunch time and we need to get 8-10 yards on 3rd down to pick up a 1st down, we decide to throw it 40 yards down the field.

We need to go back to the basics, call plays that will get us into 3rd and manageable, and then do what we need to do in order to move the ball down the field and put together long, sustained drives. Then, maybe 2-3 times a game, throw a deep ball to pressure the defensive backs and allow our playmaking WRs to win their matchups. NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. We try to hit 10 home runs a game and wind up with unnecessary incompletions and back-breaking interceptions, when all we needed to do was pick up 10 yards.

I agree, we came out flat, made a valiant effort in the 2nd looked miserable in the 3rd and then tried to force shit in the 4th. It was pretty miserable experience.

I doubt that I'm saying anything new here, but RW made some bad decisions today. If it wasn't for that late hit call he would have had 4 INTs (there was also a PI call that saved a INT, but if they hadn't interfered then they wouldn't have picked it off). I don't know if it's coming from the coaching staff or if it's RW's decision...but on 3rd and 5 or 6 we seem to throw deep a lot. Something over the middle would be sufficient for a first down, but we seem like we would rather chunk it deep. I don't understand the play calling in OT. It seems to me like right after we picked up 10 yards on first down we might catch them expecting the run and do a little play action. But instead we run to the left and lose a yard. Same thing on 2nd and 11...Our main success was running right up the gut, but both those runs were to the outside. Also, with 18 seconds left we didn't need to throw deep. A 15-20 yard gain would put us in a position where we could run a quick play to get into FG range...instead we throw deep and its picked off.

Poor playing calling, poor execution, and poor decision making. Hard to win a game when you spot a team 21. And yet we still could have easily won that game.

I know this didn't cost us the game...but I would like to see a side angle on their TD in OT. I though their QB may have been down but they never showed a good angle. Again, I know they beat us and all...I just would like to see a better replay.

even though I think RW made some bad decisions over the last few weeks, anyone saying we need to bench him and start Glennon is out of your damn mind. If our record was 2-5 then MAYBE I could agree with you, but we are 5-2 and still right in the thick of the ACC title race. Benching the best QB in the ACC (and someone who was a darkhorse Heisman candidate just last week) would be suicide. I cant believe anyone would seriously consider that a good idea

So... just watched the end of the game (had it recorded). A couple things. The illegal substitution was very costly. Cost a FG not a TD. Apparently we don't understand a "hurry up" offense. In OT, great play call to start with the run, but like said, don't understand the 2nd down decision. RW has to know that on 3rd down that you can't make that decision. Check it down, get 4th and 5 and keep the game going.



Oh well, big game in a couple weeks. Tough loss, but it really doesn't change much. Hopefully it lights a fire.

i don't care if RW goes deep, he can hit those passes, what pisses me off is when the pocket is closing down, he heaves one up off his back foot (that INT on the goal line in the first half). I also saw him stare down WR's alot today, he normally never does that. He presses when he doesn't need too.

Also, what hurt, not capitalizing off that muffed punt (needless to say i know). We are TERRIBLE in the Red Zone, which is so counter-intuitive.

can we just stop talking about ACC championships and mess for now? that's getting just a little bit ahead. our season had a great start, and we're still sitting at a decent record so far, but both of our losses were winnable games. if you're going to talk championships or good bowls of any kind, you have to have a team that's capable of 1. not losing after a 17-0 lead, and 2. not derailing themselves for an entire quarter to a CUSA team.
