i've got to go into safe mode and freaking remove all the files (not letting me from the root account, LAME)... i fucking hate vista, despite it looking so pretty.any way, when i ran the install.bat, it wasnt getting the connection, despite me allowing the .exe files and opening up the port it asked for.

Support Cancer Research and the NCSU Wolfpack With Your Computer's Idle Time! What Is It?Essentially Folding@Home uses your unused CPU cycles to model how proteins fold in the human body. The misfolding of proteins is often involved in well known diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, and Parkinson’s disease. Because this endeavor requires massive amounts of computing power, their project uses spare CPU time on computers that would otherwise sit idle in homes and businesses across the world. Here at North Carolina State University, we have formed this team in order to donate our spare CPU time to help this important endeavor. The North Carolina State University Folding@Home Team (Team # 59) was one of the first teams to join the Folding@Home project, and was the very first University-based team to join. We are currently ranked in the Top 100 teams in the world and are ramping up production in an effort to make it into the Top 50. We are all dedicated to doing our part to help end some of these terrible diseases, and we would appreciate the support of anyone who would like to help. All it takes is the installation of a small piece of software and your computer will start completing Work Units for the project and the team. The Folding@Home process runs at the lowest possible priority so you can run it 24X7 without slowing down your computer or interfering with your everyday computing tasks. If you have a Sony PS3 Game Console you can also run Folding@Home on it with great results. How can I Help?Download and install the software appropriate for your OS (Windows/Linux/Mac). For dual/quad core computers, be sure you install the SMP client. It will get you and the NCSU team far more points than the traditional client. Whichever client you choose, we recommend running the Folding@Home client as a service. The client will run in the background without notification, and will release CPU resources as needed since it runs at the lowest priority. The NCSU Team Number is 59.Visit the team homepage for detailed installation instructionsWindows ComputersWe recommend using the "text-only console” client for most windows computers. If you have a dual/quad core processor, be sure to install and run the SMP client to get you and the team far more points than the standard console client In general, its best to stay away from the graphical clients. If you have a Pentium 4 with Hyperthreading, its best to turn off Hyperthreading in the BIOS if you know how. Feel free to post in this thread with any questions. Mac and Linux ComputersThere are both "text-only" consoles and SMP clients for Linux and Macintosh computers too! If you have a dual/quad/etc core processor be sure to run the SMP client as you'll get far more points than the text-only client. But the regular console clients also help out too if you only have single-core processors.Playstation 3PS3s currently provide over 60% of the processing power in the Folding@home network and are capable of producing many points for the team. If you have PS3 system version 1.6 or later, you will see a Folding@Home icon in the Network column of the XMB (PS3 Networking menu). Just click on the icon and that's it. If you don't have 1.6 or later, perform a system upgrade. Make sure to use Team #59!The more computers and PS3s you run the clients on, the more points your username and the NCSU team earns! Ok, for everyone having issues with the UAC, just get rid of it already. I normally advise against disabling the UAC for most users as their intention was for a more secure environment, but it really causes pain and heartache, I know. It's why I disabled it myself a few hours after installing Vista.http://www.mydigitallife.info/2006/12/19/turn-off-or-disable-user-account-control-uac-in-windows-vista/That is the best guide you'll see on accomplishing this task. Follow the steps carefully, it's really not complicated.Have a great day and happy folding.
3/2/2008 2:20:32 PM
it isnt even UAC that's giving me a problem. it's bizzare. At any rate, even from the hidden Administrator account it was giving me trouble. I'll restart in safe mode later after i finish some shit i'm working on.
3/2/2008 2:28:52 PM
Yes, the root of your problem is UAC, even though you're not getting a pop-up confirmation.
3/2/2008 2:51:52 PM
KRUZNBY... about the signature 24hr. avg... yeah, i don't know why, if anyone want to analyze the script and fix it, i can send it to someone to look at...[Edited on March 2, 2008 at 3:59 PM. Reason : .]

^^^ definitely turn off UAC, reinstall, and let us know what some more details about the problem.

3/4/2008 11:15:30 PM
The Stanford stats has said that it's been updating all day and the EOC stats don't show my WUs from this morning.
3/4/2008 11:16:53 PM
yeah the stats have been down most the day from the look of it.usually when this happens theres a massive update when it catches up
3/4/2008 11:21:38 PM
my stats posted at 6am and 12pm exactly when i submitted them... i dunno, maybe some but not all are down?
3/4/2008 11:28:26 PM

ah yea, about ~26 servers are down:http://fah-web.stanford.edu/serverstat.html[Edited on March 4, 2008 at 11:37 PM. Reason : .]
3/4/2008 11:36:39 PM
26 servers holy crap. is it really THAT hard to keep them up?
3/5/2008 12:00:29 AM
^You'd think not, right?
3/5/2008 12:06:22 AM
just fyi, something that was discussed before:
3/5/2008 9:55:00 AM

3/5/2008 1:49:52 PM

AnnouncementsOur friends over at EOC (Extreme OverClocking) have gracious hosted some pretty sweet stats for quite some time, free of charge. They are now in need of a new server to host the stats and the database to feed the website and the cost is near $1500-$2000, so if you can paypal $5-$10 to help them meet the goal so we can continue to use their service that would be great. You can read their announcement below. Apparently they are working on another overhaul of the stats sometime soon as well.http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/The second thing of note is that we are looking to host a design competition for our team logo. The winning logo design will be displayed prominently on each page in this thread as well as on our website (http://www.ncsufolding.com), including the default image for our signatures.Lastly, the signature script needs to be fixed. I would do it myself, but lack the time to do it. But since I know everyone value's time, I'll put up a $20 reward if someone want to figure it out. It should be a pretty easy fix.i think i fixed the stats script... we'll see:[Edited on March 5, 2008 at 5:06 PM. Reason : .]

ok, so if you have FahMon open, select the computer that's trying to submit, and click F4it will send you to fahinfo and tell you whether or not the server responsible for submission is online... something like this: http://fahinfo.org/?WULookup=true&project=2653^and in regards to that post, 3/5/08 -

w00t, finally made it into the top 5 producers! now if only I can stay here...
3/6/2008 7:16:36 AM
Im still learning this F@H stuff so maybe I did something wrong, but I just installed the console version on a single core server (3.4Ghz) and its only getting 15 point working units, totaling ~150ppd (lame). But the GUI version on other slower machines (2.0Ghz) are getting 343 point WUs, totaling ~150ppd. Is there a way to get the console version to get higher point WUs?
3/6/2008 7:57:59 AM
We moved up to 83!

n00b question.I have F@H running on 3 machines, but under my stats, it lists active processors within the last 50 days as 1.I'm assuming that's because only one of of those PCs has completed any WUs, correct?
3/6/2008 10:37:33 AM
correct
3/6/2008 10:46:20 AM
^^fyi - most WU's should finish in 4 days or less, if you are running core2duo's (SMP client) typically in 2 days or less.

I hate having to reset gorilla folding machines every 3rd day.
3/6/2008 2:19:59 PM
so they work fine for 72 hours, then stall? maybe you need to try a different cd or something?
3/6/2008 2:31:40 PM
3/6/2008 2:41:00 PM
^^ I don't know why they stall. It doesn't happen at set intervals. I've had 3 SMP machines folding. On days 1 and 2, all 3 machines submitted their WUs. However, on day 3, only one machine submitted its WU. I just reset them all. I always get at least 2 WUs out of them before I need to reset them again. Sometime I get more. I have a P4 machine that's been running a week and it's still going strong. It doesn't produce hardly any points, but it's still folding nonetheless.

3/7/2008 12:34:44 AM
i havent even ran it lately...after getting gypped about 10k points i figure i need a break
3/7/2008 12:36:37 AM
^ What trouble do you keep having where you can't just set it and forget it like everyone else?
3/7/2008 3:25:56 AM
damnit.i reinstalled the 2 SMP clients on my q6600, and everything seemed to be working well, but both clients downloaded some crappy project#3040 1440point work units where i'm only getting ~2350PPD where I was getting 3600PPD with the 1760pt work units they take a few more minutes per frame AND are worth less points ]
3/7/2008 8:04:45 AM
don't be angry... that could be the project that cures cancer
3/7/2008 8:45:46 AM
naw i'm sure its the 1760pt wotkunits which will cure cancer
3/7/2008 9:42:50 AM
I got one of the 1440pt ones the other day, but I'm back to two 2653 WU's now
3/7/2008 9:46:36 AM
^^^wouldnt upload...last check i had like 29 failed uploads
3/7/2008 10:05:10 AM
