we already know that Teddy sucks. at least Darnold is 5 years younger than him and has a higher upside.also my guess is that we'll keep teddy around for at least another season, but i could be totally wrong about that[Edited on April 5, 2021 at 5:50 PM. Reason : .]
4/5/2021 5:47:54 PM
Yeah it's not exactly egregious but it's a bit much for just taking a flier on someone nobody else would seem to want
4/5/2021 6:41:11 PM
I think it's a bit strong to say nobody else would want Darnold. If nobody else wanted him, the Panthers could have gotten him for peanuts.I also wouldn't be surprised to see Teddy stay with the Panthers this year. Darnold is incredibly cheap this year. There's 0 chance they're both on the roster next year though, as Darnold's 5th year option is big.[Edited on April 5, 2021 at 6:57 PM. Reason : 22000 posts bitches]
4/5/2021 6:54:15 PM
Put it this way. I think there are plenty of teams that would take darnold as a backup and hope for more, virtually none that would take him as a starter. This deal is actually pretty good if he's a replacement level starter but too much for your backup. So the deal seems to be this weird middle ground where it's only good if Darnold shows something he hasn't yet and most people would say he's more likely to not improve.
4/5/2021 7:16:04 PM
Ian Rapoport said the Panthers were the only team actively trying to trade for him. Also Panthers Twitter seems to believe Teddy won’t be on the team next year
4/5/2021 7:50:04 PM
I mean if the Panthers don't think bridgewater can start, there's no reason for him to be on the roster. But it's not because they can't afford both him and Darnold this year because Darnold is cheap as hell this season.
4/5/2021 8:40:44 PM
^Yeah I think that is one point in favor of this trade is it is good from a cap standpoint. Try to grab a late round pick for Teddy and then just bring in some veteren camp arms and maybe a late round stretch pick like a Newman or Costello and just see what happens maybe like what the Seahawks had when Russ came into the league.
4/5/2021 9:43:10 PM
i for one am looking forward to some Sam Darnold to Dan Arnold touchdown passes
4/5/2021 10:09:16 PM
^^ no need to bring in a veteran backup when PJ Walker is still on the rosterhis one start was the perfect example of why Teddy wasn’t it

I'm actually really happy with this trade. Improvement to lengthen the field, we've got a great receiving corps so might as well air it out. Not giving up anything huge. the only thing I don't like is the amount of money we've got in qbs now (Darnold and Teddy add up to like 41 mil IIRC).I've heard a quote from Fitterer that makes it sound like we *really* wanna trade Teddy away. The most logical situation would be sending him to Green Bay/Vikings/Broncos, one of the teams with no clear answer at qb for the future, but we'll see. I'll be surprised if we can get much for him, we don't really have much leverage.I agree with Justin though about Pitts. 8 is a good range to grab him, most people think at least 3-4 qbs are coming off the board in the first 5-7 picks, so that frees things up for us. If not him, I'd go for either Patrick Surtain or Shaun Wade, then grab an OT/OG in the second. Maybe some guy like Dillon Radunz or Alex Leatherwood.

Aaron Rogers is a last year goodbye tour deal, Jordan Love is not a known quantity
4/6/2021 6:03:55 PM
They may want Love to be their future but they've got no clue. Teddy's contract ends in 2022 which gives them another year to figure Love out.

DJ Moore and Robby Anderson is a fine WR group. Not great.[Edited on April 6, 2021 at 6:06 PM. Reason : And the other Moore from Seattle]

That's fair but what they definitely are is speedy, which is good for getting deep

4/7/2021 9:50:36 PM
Same, now all we really need to go after in the draft is TE and OL (and 'need' is a strong word for both since they're both ~decent~ but not great). Leaves us in a great position to be flexible with picks. I wouldn't be surprised if we end up trading down once or twice to try and get back some of the picks given up for Darnold
4/8/2021 1:58:27 PM
had a dream last night that I got emotional over Pitts falling to 8 and us drafting himconfirming that I was wrong about being skeptical over taking a TE so high
4/12/2021 12:18:21 PM
Teddy to Broncos confirmed. All we're getting is a 6th rounder
4/28/2021 2:04:54 PM
we had zero leverage
4/28/2021 2:39:36 PM
I mean a 6th is fine.

Switching to fieldturf in 2021. Not terribly surprising, but i kind of hate it.
4/28/2021 9:31:44 PM
I really hate it. Tepper keeps making phenomenal (imo) player-related moves but making stadium changes I dislike (aside from stepping away from the shield on midfield... that was ok... but it was also a given)I think this is all a part of his plan to make the Panthers move to a new stadium. He's stated multiple times he'd like them to host a super bowl. Only way to make that happen is to get a retractable roof... and since BoA's structural shape can't be made for that and the Panthers would (hopefully) never go fully indoor, we'd have to make a new field.Once the field isn't being used basically year round and it becomes a soccer/lax/whatever-non-football stadium I imagine he'll get grass back since there won't be year round wear and tear, but this is just another way of meddling with the fan experience in BoA to prop up soccer. The likely target for the new stadium is the Charlotte Pipe & Foundry land. Tepper will (probably) keep it in Charlotte (rumors are that's why JR went with David instead of Navarro, who was the favorite early on) but in the end, I don't see us being in BoA in 10 years, which to me is a shame cause it's really a classic, classy stadium that's been modernized well and doesn't feel too outdated despite being in the bottom half of the oldest stadiums in the NFL
4/28/2021 11:10:37 PM
Retractable roofs are incredibly dumb. Teams never open them to play games and they add like a billion dollars onto the cost of a stadium. If you want a dome, build a dome. Don't waste a billion (likely taxpayer) dollars.
4/29/2021 1:10:30 AM
after striking out with Watson, Tepper may have an itchy trigger finger and do whatever it takes to trade for Aaron Rodgers
4/29/2021 3:30:31 PM
shoutout to the least sexiest pick possible doesn’t mean it was a bad pick, tho[Edited on April 29, 2021 at 9:28 PM. Reason : I would’ve gone with Fields]

4/29/2021 11:49:13 PM
he's probably good.but yeah, not as exciting as i was hoping for with #8. Pitts was gone. Sewell was gone. Fields and Devonta Smith (although WR isn't the main position of need) were there...or even Surtain II (better name recognition than Horn and i think most people thought Surtain was the #1 CB). but yeah...that doesn't make Horn a bad pick.[Edited on April 30, 2021 at 7:50 AM. got an LSU receiver with a bunch of touchdowns, and a BYU tackle who was a first team All American last season. and still have 2 more 3rd round picks to go.
4/30/2021 10:19:04 PM
Via the All Things Covered podcast, in an interview Teddy said one of the reasons he sucked is because Brady didn't practice the 2-minute drill or red zone offense very much.
5/13/2021 12:45:12 PM
That seems ridiculous. What the fuck else is there to even practice if not for end of game situations or scoring in the red zone?Sorry you didnt do either of those well, but come the fuck on, what NFL franchise doesn't focus on the most important situations on offense?
5/13/2021 1:54:10 PM
The main theory I've heard is that Brady intentionally did it as a way to kneecap the team and make them look competitive but keep them from winning too many games. A bit tin foil hat-y, but I can see the logic of a 'soft tank' -- the main problem is that it runs contrary to everything about the Teddy move
5/13/2021 2:39:59 PM
If it wasn't intentional, yikes that's some terrible coaching strategy.
5/13/2021 3:53:34 PM
The team sure as hell looked like they didn’t practice red zone offense.
5/13/2021 4:18:30 PM

I guess I’ll guess 6-11 this year.

Saw a Vegas win total o/u at 7.5. Felt a little high but we did manage 5-11 last year without CMC most of the year plus one more game this season. Fuck it I’ll go 9-8
