It's common knowledge that Covid may be more detrimental to people with other health issues like obesity. Nobody is arguing otherwise. I really don't think it's a politicians (or even Fauci's) role to tell everyone they need to lose weight. Most over-weight people know it's unhealthy and they should lose weight. They don't need a politician telling them that. And if they do, they're an idiot. That's a totally ridiculous argument.
1/25/2022 12:02:57 PM
Maybe because it's obvious to everyone that obesity is unhealthy. I mean, it can kill you so many ways. If that hasn't been enough to inspire someone to make a lifestyle change, you think a virus that encourages staying at home and eating comfort food is going to be the catalyst they need to get on a health and fitness regimen? I hadn't heard this ridiculous argument espoused yet, so thanks for keeping it fresh. Also, the POTUS at the time was himself clinically obese and almost died by trying to keep up appearances and resisting common sense countermeasures because he was scared it would make him look weak. Well nothing shows strength better than almost dying from a preventable virus.

Wtf does c0vid mean?

“I wouldn’t have lost all this weight had a politician not recommended I should” is something that has never been said in human history

Meatloaf: I would do anything for love.CDC: Would you get vaccinated?Meatloaf: No, I won't do that.*we don't know his vax status yet, just that he was strongly against vax mandates.

It's 2022 and I'm still on TWW so it should be obvious I don't know anything about anything. That being said, why is what I asked ludicrous? It's one thing to know being obese may lead to you dying a few years earlier than average when you're in your 60's, it's another to be told being obese could lead to you dying now. Instead, we get stuff like this during the midst of a pandemic.

My doctor said that they are getting ready to start trials on a vaccine for omicron A little late there.Should we really expect to get vaccinated every 6 months? Even one of the primary researchers on the Astra Zeneca vaccine said that it's not sustainable to vaccinate the world every 6 months. For reference, I've been vaccinated and boosted.

Almost none. Because obese people already know that they're more at risk for complications from any illness, or that obesity may lead to other illnesses that will make them sicker or kill them. You truly think that if the "experts" told them they needed to lose weight because of Covid, they'd all of a sudden do it? You're trolling, right? You can't seriously think you're making a good argument.
1/25/2022 4:51:31 PM
Experts could barely get people to wear masks and get a shot, but they would have success with major lifestyle changes?
1/25/2022 4:58:07 PM
But the way it is going through communities, everyone will have had it by the time they release it. And I don't recall the last time I've gotten my annual flu shot every 6 months.
1/25/2022 4:58:12 PM
So youre ok with an annual shot just not a bi annual shot?
1/25/2022 5:06:31 PM
^^again, do you think they should have started working on it prior to it being a thing? Or do you think it should have been developed in a couple months? Or do you think it's a waste of time even developing one?
1/25/2022 5:08:09 PM
We’ve known all along that people with underlying conditions (which would include obesity) are at greater risk. That information hasn’t been downplayed that I ever noticed.
1/25/2022 6:02:24 PM
call me crazy, but I’m fine taking a semi-annual vaccine that will prevent me from going into the ICU and potentially dying I don’t understand why this is how conservatives are now moving the goalposts when it comes to vaccines
1/25/2022 6:33:27 PM
An Oklahoma City hospital reported on CBS Evening News that they have approximately a 50% fatality rate for unvaccinated individuals with COVID entering the ICU. Way to show the gubmint! This is so freakin' stupid. It's very difficult to remain sympathetic with unvaccinated people getting sick.

Just a lazy way to put people into groups who don't think like you, I'm guilty of it too. But seriously, I couldn't tell you the last time I intentionally watched Fox News, it's been probably 4+ years. Other than seeing a clip of Tucker or Gutfeld occasionally on twitter, that's about it. Their audience is just boomers and Teenage Republicans now.
1/26/2022 6:50:55 AM
So give us the inside track. Where do the cool middle-aged Republicans get their propaganda these days? Mainly social media? Or Newsmax and OAN?
1/26/2022 8:08:13 AM
Actually I get my news from WRAL, wapo, and sometimes the CBS evening news if I have the TV on. I read CNN just for kicks and giggles.

Isn't FoxNews America's most-watched cable network? And Tucker's show is the most watched show on the network. So yeah, a lot of Americans watch it pretty religiously. ^^and why won't you give your opinion on the Omicron vaccine?
1/26/2022 8:54:51 AM
[quote]I don't understand why more focus wasn't placed on preventable co-morbs[quote]A virus is killing people right now, and there are things to be done right now to prevent that, and you're confused why they didn't put a big focus on other things that could be done slowly over a period of months or years that would prevent some of it?There's a limited amount of bandwidth on both ends. Every minute Fauci spends calling people fat is a minute he isn't promoting masks/vaccines/social distancing/other things that save lives in the immediate term. On the receiving end, people struggled with even those messages - and you want to add more complex and challenging stuff into the mix.You fat-hating people are a weird bunch. It's almost like you take other people's weight personally, and the disgust with which you discuss the issue is palpable. And it's almost never, "We should restructure American agriculture and food marketing rules from the top down," it's "These gross fatties need to fucking fix themselves." Like, I'm not obese, and for reasons ranging from national security to public health to insurance premiums I would like for fewer people to be obese, but I don't think these people are revulsive.

you don’t have to watch Fox News to fall victim to their misinformation there are plenty of right wing outlets who are more than happy to launder their misinfo. they just happen to be at the top of the bubble.

1/26/2022 11:55:37 AM
My Twitter feed is filled with accounts espousing right-wing viewpoints, and it's absurd how much my mom, who doesn't use Twitter, repeats the same exact talking points, verbatim, when I talk to her.
1/26/2022 12:02:39 PM
Someone was asking about my opinion on omicron...what opinion is there to give? From anecdotal evidence, I've seen (personally as well) that it's extremely mild. Nearly everyone in my neighborhood has had it. I still don't have taste or smell, which isn't even a prevailing symptom with omicron but oh well. Everybody's cases around me were mild. Some have been vaccinated, some have not, and did not notice a difference between the two. That's just what I've seen. But according to the news outlets, hospitalizations are still rising, so it must be pretty bad for some people.So...my opinion is...omicron is mild?Or would you like me to opine on the conspiracy theory that it too was created in a lab, to combat the more harmful variants? I've heard that one. I've not heard any clear evidence to back the claim up.
1/26/2022 12:03:39 PM
^^ I don’t have a first-hand experience like that, but that’s the exact point I was making
1/26/2022 12:20:24 PM
^^no, I actually provided you three specific questions about the vaccine after you commented "too late", or whatever. Do you think they should have started working on before it was a thing, or do you think that a vaccine should have been developed in a couple months, or do you think its a waste of time developing a vaccine for it?
1/26/2022 12:27:14 PM
I don't know man, I feel like with the rapid nature of the spread for omicron, it's almost a waste of time. If the larger population is like my neighborhood, then we've all already been exposed.
