While I'm feeling more confident about my choice of staying, today I'm feeling pretty emotional. Seeing all the Marinas empty and the pictures my friends are posting, it's just really starting to hit me that my town might not be the same for a very long time.

Shewl!

I stole this.

This is how I've seen the Hurricane Florence drama play out on facebook.

Florence: I'm coming for you.
VA & SC: Please don't
NC: Bring it

Florence: The fuck did you say to me?
VA & SC: NC, dude shut the fuck up!
NC: Fuck that and fuck her windy ass. Punk ass bitch is only a CAT 3.

Florence: *powers up to CAT 4* still wanna talk shit!?
VA & SC: ... nope, we're good
NC: Not only am I going to CONTINUE to talk shit, we got Jim Cantore on his way and we are meme'ing the fuck out of you.

Florence: you have got to be kidding. Ok fine, I got something for you. *begins powering up to CAT 5*
VA & SC: ......
NC: that's cool, we already have facebook events planned such as welcoming parties, blowing all the fans at you, firing guns at you... we've cleared out ABC stores and are ready to get LIT. Bring it on turbo.

Florence: you... you guys are serious? You really aren't scared of me? But... but I.... I put so much effort into this.
VA & SC: *waiting anxiously*
NC: *chugs beer* get fucked

Florence: fine, I'll leave *shifts south*
VA: *sigh of relief*
SC: God damn it NC you are the worst big brother ever!
NC: time to man up bitch, that damn hurricane is mad.

Everyone from Morehead to Wilmington should be wary... hard to imagine a what this long of a stall will be like for them with the wind and rain. My parents and brother are leaving Morehead City / Newport, mostly for comfort and not wanting to get murdered at night by pine trees.

I'm getting the impression that exact timing and impacts are still very up in the air depending on your area.

Latest forecast calls for full Raleigh Dome deployment with a light breeze from the south with cloudy skies.

You heard it here first.

Stay safe. Hopefully you're nowhere near the river, because all that water definitely won't be flowing away from you if/when the storm surge hits."

Yea, thanks for the well wishes, but I'm not on the Neuse. I'm on the outskirts, around the Trent river. I should be good.

Quote :
"are you not watching the forecast? it's supposed to be a major historic flooding event for that area"

We'll see. The hurricane at a cat4 was supposed to be historic as well, but has since dropped off. Without riding more in a northerly fashion, I cant see these rivers surging as high as any other hurricane we've had.

My main concern at this point is power disruptions in Wilmington having an effect on the grid in Raleigh... not sure how much failsafes there are there

I work in a 630 MW generation facility in Wilmington. Can you explain your concern? What happens in Wilmington should not affect whether you have power in Raleigh.

Things look pretty good for the Triangle area, and that's great. But folks still gotta be careful on the roads out there.

Hopefully, this scare will actually start getting us ready for the next one? Forecasting is a lot better, but nothing's changed otherwise...we're just way more open to not having power or water for 5-10 days...

^^^ I don't know, the more a storm is overhyped for an area and people go out of their way to prepare, I feel like people will ignore the next warnings

Work already announced that we're closing early tomorrow and we have Friday off. I normally don't drink much, but I have three bottles of wine that I plan on killing this weekend. Plus some liquor if the wine runs out

Would appear initial eyefall has drifted north.

Seems to clip Wilmington beaches, even topsail.

Going to be interesting to see if it strengthens anymore at all or just simply grows larger.

Also very interested to see if it drifts any more North for landfall, that will be how much Raleigh feels the effects.

Where in New Bern are you at? I'm from halfway between New Bern and Havelock near Flanners Beach.

Downtown New Bern looks like the storm surge will hammer it. They just did a detailed analysis on New Bern storm surge on the Weather Channel. Not too good looking for Pamlico County either.
