So what happens if Hanifin doesn't sign?http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=774341

He will play in the NCAAif you mean, what happens to his rights with respect to the Canes, we hold them for like 3 years I think. Cant remember exactly[Edited on July 9, 2015 at 3:55 PM. Reason : gre]

He seemed happy to be selected by the Canes, so whether he signs this year or not is no huge deal
7/9/2015 9:31:57 PM
I'm pretty confident he will sign and play pretty much the entire season with the Canes. I'm not sure if that's the right thing to do but it will almost certainly happen. He'd step right into our defense and they probably are already more or less pencilling him in.
7/9/2015 9:42:35 PM
See Aaron Ekblad. Admittedly, I was a touch worried that Hannifin didn't want to be in Raleigh when the Canes drafted him. Regardless, the Canes own him until he is 22.
7/10/2015 9:20:23 AM
Most "hockey people" seem to think he's got nothing to gain by going back to BC. I would assume our front office is of the same mindset, and you'll see him signed in the near future. Also, not sure where the concern over him not wanting to be here is coming from. Kid seems excited to be here in interviews, and his family was pumped about him being relatively close so that they could come down for games. This is nothing like the Jack Johnson situation.
7/10/2015 10:39:04 AM
then why hasn't he signed yet...
7/10/2015 10:42:56 AM
It has been a whole two weeks since the draft, they're probably going to just go ahead and release his rights and let him re-enter the draft.

All 4 of those dudes play in the CHL, and go back to the CHL even with a signed contract. Hanifin plays in the NCAA, and can't go back once he signs a contract. Here's 3 more random links and a news blurb that are also irrelevant to Hanifin:Photos of a Dog taking a shit blog: http://photosofmydogtakingashit.tumblr.com/A picture of Patrick Duffy: http://www.ultimatedallas.com/patrickduffy/main.jpg20 ways to torch 200 calories: http://www.health.com/health/gallery/0,,20395219,00.htmlDoctors may be getting close to a blood test for cancer.

Why do you have to turn into a cockbucket? Is someone having a different opinion than you that hard to deal with?
7/10/2015 11:22:51 AM
What he is trying to say is there is no reason to panic or stir up any controversy. It boils down to this, the guys that have signed already are not in the position that our guy is in. He has not made up his mind as to whether he wants to play another year at BC. If he signs, he can't go back to the NCAA. As long as he is undecided, he won't sign...thereby leaving his options open. The other guys are in junior hockey leagues and they stay eligible whether or not they have a contract. In any case we hold onto his rights for quite awhile. No need to worry. More than likely we will see this dude on the big team this coming season.[Edited on July 10, 2015 at 11:39 AM. Reason : Once he gets that bonus check, he is no longer an amateur athlete/NCAA eligible]

To say this is nothing like the JJ situation is a touch wrong. Johnson was a rising sophomore at Michigan, Hanifin is a rising sophomore at BC. The key difference is that Johnson had already committed to his second year at Michigan, and the Canes wanted someone on D that would play that season. I don't think Johnson was going to even if he wasn't already committed to the Wolverines. Keep in mind, that was the year the Canes won the Cup. With Hanifin, there's a roster spot for him.
7/10/2015 1:58:35 PM
uh this is nothing like the JJ situation because Hanifin doesnt have a crazy shit set of parents and isn't openly opposed to signing in this market

Yea. This is now nothing like the JJ situation. Pretty cool he signed at FanFest. Any predictions from you all for the season?

^I'm going to go out on a limb and say we'll be pretty awful.

9th place, after staying in last through Mid Jan
7/11/2015 1:20:58 PM
Lol at people thinking this is anything like jack johnson. I remember when we drafted jack that the prevailing thought is that he was not going to sign and didn't want to 0lay in carolina. When we drafted Hani f'in he's been stoked and has stated numerous times he can't wait to get in and work.

There seems to be a lot of buzz around a Skinner to Montreal trade with the Canes looking for prospects and picks in return. Calgary was interested, but the price might have been too high for them. Winnipeg was or is also in the mix.
7/29/2015 10:05:10 AM
What do you think he is worth?
7/29/2015 12:04:31 PM
On the whole, I don't know that I would want to trade with the Canadiens. Certainly not for what's being mentioned in the articles. Of the 3 teams, I'd rather do something with WPG. I think their prospect system is the strongest of the 3, but none of them are particularly strong on the wing.I wish Detroit were interested in him.

We actually look competitive against Dallas but they're just more talented and it shows. Either that or our goaltending is subpar. But I feel we had the higher compete level.
