So the difference between Terra Nova and Under the Dome is about a million per episode, not counting the tax break Terra Nova was getting.

Quote :
"The program, which was shot in North Carolina, cost about $3 million to $3.4 million an episode to produce, on the high side for a new network drama. Advertising rates for summer shows were not high enough to support such an elaborate project.
"

Quote :
"Case in point is Fox's "Terra Nova," the big-budget drama about a family that travels from 2149 to prehistoric times to try to save Earth only to run into some angry dinosaurs. Although the show was expensive — the per-episode production cost was about $4 million — it was not a money loser.
"

Not saying Terra Nova was all that great. The show started off so slow after the pilot and from there had a hard time deciding between family and scifi adventure. The show picked up steam and seemed to find it's focus and fleshed out some of the characters.

Under the Dome started off pretty good. The characters were interesting and the story was decent. About the same time in the season that Terra Nova started to improve is when Under the Dome decided to go the other route. Characters that started off interesting became idiots. What started out as a decent plot now feels like it can't decide which direction it wants to go. It's almost like the writers said we've got another season so no worries let's get drunk and do lines off the prop egg till all we see are pink fucking stars.

well the show was nothing like the book and the first season was decidedly left open for a second season.

Dean Norris would rather kill himself off than continue in this travesty. That scene was probably improvised.

Radio station producer turns into cop with law enforcement knowledge in the span of hours.
Dome becomes magnetic, but only pulls metal objects that potentially will injure characters, while other nearby objects remain in place.
Fire in the middle of a field magically stops spreading
Ex-military guy who has "flown hundreds of missions" doesn't know about dual fuel tanks in planes or the fuel tank switch.

I feel like the point of the show now for the writers is to try and make each episode worse than the previous one.

So far they're succeeding.

I read the book last week.

I started watching the series this week, and finished season 1 yesterday.

I just read through this thread, and realized i'm doing the same thing y'all did last year in hate-watching the show.

I'm still watching too, but mostly just to laugh at it now. My favorite part of this season has been how smart the scientist/teacher is. A quick summary of things that she is an expert in:

- Biology. Enough to genetically engineer a virus that would kill anyone infected.
- Meteorology. Enough to simply look at the red rain and determine its cause and how to mitigate it.
- Agriculture/economics. Enough to figure out how much food is needed to feed the town, how much more needs to grow, the effects of the red rain on crops.
- Zoology (or perhaps it would be entomology). Enough to understand enough about monarch butterflies (completely off the top of her head) to the point of what they eat and what their lifecycle is.
- Structural engineering. Enough to design and build a fully functional windmill that was able to take care of the red rain thing within seconds of deployment.

The explanation behind this - "She went to Stanford". The kind of knowledge that she has would require years of experience in very specialized fields. They don't even have internet access or communication to the outside world so its not like she can just look this stuff up or talk to experts outside the dome.

Also, lol at Julia. The opening sequence to the show says that the dome has been down for like 2 weeks. Barbie killed her husband on the day that the dome came down. She didn't even shed a tear when she found out that her husband was dead/leaving her/whatever. She went from being married, to finding out her husband was dead, to shacking up and being completely in love with the man who killed him in the span of two weeks.

I don't buy the opening sequence. It has been way longer than 2 weeks. I don't think they are trying to stick with the 2 week thing. Also I think the last two episodes have been pretty good. Coincidentally, they aren't as much " under the dome". Lol

It hasn't been more than two months though which is still way short of a time to get over your husband and move on so quickly. I guess she wasn't that into him to begin with.

^Not really. A few main characters have been killed off and a few new ones introduced. The role of sheriff has moved around to about 10 different people. There really hasn't been much advancement on what the dome is and why it came down though.

So, I have been watching this show just to see how it would end. For whatever reason, the show didn't record for me. I think the finale (red door?) has aired. Did anyone watch the finale? Is it worth trying to watch online? Did the dome come down? Is it open for a season 3? So many questions....

I don't think Monday night was the season finale but I could be wrong, they definitely showed some "on the next Under the Dome" previews after the episode.

I actually think the show has gotten better, interacting with the world outside of the dome has actually made it somewhat more interesting. Though some of the acting is still not very good.

I agree that the show's gotten a bit better.

The re-appearance of Melanie after 25 years, the backstory of the "original four" who discovered the egg, are an intriguing plot arc. Though, I wasn't a fan of the reveal that Barbie's dad is the CEO of that defense contractor. This potentially gets too much into the territory of copying Lost-- hopefully this doesn't evolve into a clone of the Dharma initiative. There are several other parallels with Lost, and I hope the writers don't take the shitty way out and continue down that path.

The science teacher needs to go. the writers clearly also put very little emphasis on coming up with anything interesting that involves the general townspeople.

lol @ Phil. I completely forgot about him. He went from likeable radio DJ to powerhungry policeman to raving lunatic in like four days. Now he is impaled on a spike.

If I heard some random kids talking about a portal at a bottom of a cliff I'd think that I'd at least be hesitant enough to shine a light down there before jumping.
