They do a good job of portraying people trying to save lives seem like evil garbage. I will give them that.

ah, so you disagree with their opinion... which means they're not good journalists.

I see that I have clearly won that argument.

The American Taliban wins again as #motorcyclevagina passes the house. It will pass the Senate too and put the heat on McCrony.
7/11/2013 6:12:44 PM
My money is on McCrony doing one of two things. Either he weasels out and lets it go into law without signing, or he vetoes it knowing that full well that there are enough Regressives in both chambers to override it, thus giving him a cop out to say "well, I kept my promise *wink* *wink*"
7/11/2013 6:29:46 PM
but he will, in fact, keep his promise if he does vetoI can't stand the dude, but what else could he do?
7/11/2013 6:31:33 PM
^this. What is he supposed to do? I hope he does veto it.
7/11/2013 6:32:19 PM
^^ Isn't the only reason he's considering a veto that it won't matter in the end? I realize that's cynical, but come on...
7/11/2013 7:20:23 PM
it's not like he just brought up the veto in the past couple of weekshe said it during his campaignagain, what other options does he have?

I'm a white, first born male in my family so I think the NCGA will still let me vote... Need to re-read the absurdly large suppression list again though to make sure. Can't remember if they are letting Wake, Durham and Mecklenberg counties vote still.

I can only assume it means that a person can say "that d-bag doesn't live here, he's not supposed to be voting..."
7/24/2013 12:45:51 AM
7/24/2013 9:48:11 AM
It's beyond shady. It's clear manipulation of the voting system in their favor.
7/24/2013 10:57:01 AM
Does anyone know if the address on your driver's license has to match the precinct you're voting in?
7/24/2013 12:30:19 PM
I am so glad that donations to politicians increased to "keep pace with inflation" and that teacher salaries weren't. I mean, how would they get elected without their donations matching inflation?
7/25/2013 1:20:57 PM
It sucks that this is happening to my (former) state, but it's a pretty good warning for the rest of the nation as to what will happen if Republicans take over a formerly well functioning state and start "getting things done".
7/25/2013 3:04:12 PM
a lot of conservatives i know are also highly displeased with this legislature. they are outing themselves as typical corrupt politicians by pushing through shit like this voter stuff (I supported the voter ID bill which i know a lot of you don't, but I don't support any of the other stuff they added to it like shortening early voting and not allowing teens to pre-register, which to me makes no sense.) and education. they had a really good chance to make a good impact on the budget and economy, but have spent most of their time fighting petty battles and getting "payback" (or that's how it looks to me)[Edited on July 25, 2013 at 3:38 PM. At the only Moral Monday protest I went two, I counted 13 signs from republicans and/or conservatives protesting this administration. That was only signs, I have no idea how many total republican protesters there were.
7/25/2013 8:20:39 PM
i would be willing to bet more than most people think.
7/25/2013 8:24:12 PM
In regards to the voter suppression bill, which precinct in Wake county is the most Republican? I plan on camping out and challenging voters who look Republican.
7/26/2013 7:40:36 AM
As a former registered Republican, I am very displeased with the vast majority of the bills proposed and/or passed by this GA. I, too, don't have a problem with voter ID (if done properly with proper access to IDs and sensible controls... which this GA wouldn't have done anyways), but the rest is so clearly voter suppression, it's laughable. Though I fear even lawsuits can't touch this law... unless someone has some leaked information pointed directly to voter suppression. Now as I think about it, the only bill I remember fully supporting was HB937 (omnibus gun bill). I don't have a problem with income tax decreases, though I never really saw the true impact on middle/lower classes... though I don't care for tax breaks for the rich (at this period in time). "Outlawing" parts of Obamacare because it's "government intrusion into private lives" was dumb, considering our state's financial issues; and that reasoning flies in the face of the abortion bill that passed. I think I'd rather have seen income tax rates decreased on the lower tiers (if at all) and provided state employee/teacher pay raises. I don't have a big problem with getting rid of tenure, but that should have been accompanied by a well-thought out plan for performanced based pay, incentives pay, etc.; cutting TAs and increasing classroom sizes was also a bad move, IMO.But we all know that this GA is just trying to pass legislation to suit their friends aka big business and uber-conservative "family/christian" groups.

Protesters gave McCory hell yesterday to where he had to slip out a side entrance. It was over his lie about not signing abortion legislation. One sign said it all "We voted for jobs, not far right wind ideology". In other words right now he and especially GOP NCGA members may be in trouble. Voter suppression doesn't take effect until after the 2014 election but it will be there for 2016 when McCrory is up again (so its impact will have to be watched).

Pay to Play Tillis:http://www.newsobserver.com/2013/07/26/3061081/tillis-pushed-several-major-political.html When his fellow Republicans questioned why House Speaker Thom Tillis backed a Democrat to the University of North Carolina Board of Governors in March, the speaker had a simple reason:R. Doyle Parrish had raised a lot of money.“I would estimate he is directly responsible for more than $100,000.00 in financial support through personal contributions to my campaign committee and other candidates and through the Hospitality Alliance,” Tillis wrote in a March 21 email to House leaders.Tillis also strongly supported G.A. Sywassink for the board, even after the Republican caucus rejected Sywassink because he lives in South Carolina. The House narrowly elected Sywassink after Tillis circulated a list of his preferred candidates that included Sywassink.Sywassink, owner of a Charlotte freight company, had given $7,500 to Tillis’ campaign for the state House. In June, Sywassink gave $25,000 and Parrish gave $20,000 to the super PAC supporting Tillis’ bid for the U.S. Senate next year.Read more here: http://www.newsobserver.com/2013/07/26/3061081/tillis-pushed-several-major-political.html#storylink=cpy
