Hand guns serve multiple purposes, though, by DESIGN. Assault riffles only serve one purpose, which is as a military assault weapon. How the NRA lobbyist even made it constitutional for civis to own these things is beyond me.Gun enthusiast are stuck on their one agrument, which is "OMG the fed is taking my guns away" This is not the case and it never will be. The issue is to put some regulation on what the average, untrained citizen has access to.

Self Sacrifice. In both two previous post, assault weapons could easily be substituted for a non assault weapon and be just as effective. Hunting (lawd some many options) and home defense (hand gun/shot gun). But the persistence of assault riffles for peace of mind is the problem. They are really only needed for one purpose.
2/3/2013 2:21:19 PM
so you admit that there is no meaningful difference that makes the scary black rifles more "deadly"?[Edited on February 3, 2013 at 2:23 PM. Reason : SX]
2/3/2013 2:22:59 PM
.223 defense ammunition (aka super deadly high power AR-15 bullets ) is less likely to penetrate walls than any of the handgun rounds popular for home defense.they yaw and break apart on impact. the AR is better than a handgun for home defense.[Edited on February 3, 2013 at 2:26 PM. Reason : adsf]

That dad should be at least fined for not securing his guns, and fined again for not securing his guns and having kids in his house.[Edited on February 3, 2013 at 2:42 PM. Reason : maybe arrested]
2/3/2013 2:41:38 PM
or maybe he should be commended for teaching his 15 year old son how to defend himself
2/3/2013 2:42:15 PM
Weren't you just saying you'd never let your kids have access to your guns?If the newtwon shooter's mom locked her guns from her nutty family, that might not have happened. If people locked their guns up, they would be less likely to get stolen and wind up "in the hands of criminals™".
2/3/2013 2:43:49 PM
i don't think so. perhaps you have me confused with someone else.[Edited on February 3, 2013 at 2:45 PM. Reason : keep blaming the victim]
2/3/2013 2:44:36 PM
And in the Lounge gun thread, you guys always talking about stopping power. That AR hit the guy multiple times and didn't drop him, if the criminal had a gun (didn't seem to be the case) the AR would have put the kids AND neighbors in MORE danger. Those kids were just lucky, the guns didn't make them safer, it was pure chance.
2/3/2013 2:45:44 PM
so now you're saying the AR isn't powerful enough for home defense?i'm confused
2/3/2013 2:47:12 PM
So for all the gun owners here, how many times have you had to use your gun for self defense and could it have been avoided in the first place?
2/3/2013 2:47:15 PM
never, thankfully[Edited on February 3, 2013 at 2:48 PM. Reason : normally folks scoff at anecdotal evidence and you're actually requesting it]
2/3/2013 2:47:34 PM
my house is 500 feet from the police station so a criminal would have to be extraordinarily stupid to make me have to use one of my guns for home defense thankfully
2/3/2013 2:50:18 PM
i'd carry a cop instead, but they're kinda heavy

2/3/2013 2:54:48 PM
Are you asking me?I don't generally support the AWBs as proposed by our legislators.A good gun is based on personal preference. A big burly guy might prefer something with more oomph like a shotgun, a punk kid might feel more badass with his AR, a dainty girl might prefer a small caliber revolver, etc.. Whatever blanket makes you feel more warm and fuzzy.
2/3/2013 3:02:26 PM

The scenario where you would be forced to rely on an AW to protect your house is pretty outlandish, which is something that is frequently brought up. So yeah, if you are having a Quentin Tarantino raid on your house, you are gonna need your AKs and hand grenades...maybee some back up. Who knows if the untrained/novice civi would be able to even handle something like that.Typically, People that are at risk for such security breeches usually resort to dogs and guards instead of putting an AW under their pillow. Also, none of you gun slingers at all seem to care or consider the real danger of the escalation of violence. For people that are so proud of being american, there is a shocking lack of concern for anything outside of one's own bubble.
2/3/2013 7:27:58 PM
rare scenario? people have been defending their property with rifles for years. since "assault weapons" are just rifles, I see no difference here
2/3/2013 7:37:54 PM
BanjoMan still hasn't answered NRR's question. What makes an "assault" weapon any more deadly and a non assault weapon?
2/3/2013 9:16:20 PM
because it has "assault" in the title
