only had time to listen to National once last night but I agree it was fantastic

The Vampire Weekend is okay so far, but that one song is nothing but a remix of Canon in D Major. Bam. Nailed it. [Edited on May 10, 2013 at 11:04 PM. Reason : k]
5/10/2013 10:54:53 PM
which song?
5/11/2013 4:28:42 AM
Track 3 I think.

Annoying euro sleeve and end cap thing on the new Deerhunter record FTL.On the plus side, it sounds awesome on vinyl (hate to be that stereotypical asshole, especially because it's assumable this is protools in action). Anyway, this album has definitely grown on me. [Edited on May 11, 2013 at 6:37 PM. Reason : k]

I hate the damn sticky-flapped bag, but an OBI strip doesn't bother me, especially when it says "File Under Nocturnal Garage."As for the sound, it's definitely not Pro Tools. There was a lot of talk about them doing it straight into eight tracks recorders, but I' not sure if said recorders were digital or tape.[Edited on May 11, 2013 at 7:49 PM. Reason : Y]

Well either way I've sat here playing it 4 times through getting ready to go out tonight, and love it. If it's actual analog, that would be fucking awesome, but I've heard plenty of things that sound "better" on vinyl from digital recordings, namely the Men's Open Your Heart, etc etc etc. You know the gig...

Random Acces Memories is streaming for free on Itunes
5/13/2013 5:08:44 PM
This is the least electronic electronic music album I've ever heard.
5/13/2013 5:12:06 PM
fanboys/bros are gonna hate it
5/13/2013 5:24:16 PM
loved it, but I can see a lot of hate coming from certain groups
5/13/2013 6:07:56 PM
Album of the year so far for me
5/13/2013 6:34:35 PM
i really like it too
5/13/2013 6:59:25 PM
It's absolutely amazing. It's everything that music should be. People who want a new "Discovery", "Homework", or "Human After All" should go listen to the millions of other musicians who started making that kind of music after Daft Punk. Daft Punk doesn't just keep doing the same thing.
5/13/2013 7:21:38 PM
^ Yep. "Doin' it Right" is now stuck in my head. Great album from the first song to the last. Drive into and home from work is gonna be even more awesome with RAM along for the ride
5/13/2013 7:54:38 PM
Just listened. That was spectacular.
5/13/2013 11:10:11 PM
It's pretty good. Nowhere near the OMFG BEST GROUP OF ALL TIME EVAR hype it was getting though
5/13/2013 11:52:36 PM
A lot of it is really good. A lot of it is not. It's occasionally too proggy for me. With that said, it's a very daring thing for them to do, and the places where they really stretch out rank with the best tracks in their catalog.
5/14/2013 12:11:22 AM
It's daring for them to take a step back in time and sound like music that was around 30-40 years ago?I'm not trying to be a hater, I just think people need to calm down is all
5/14/2013 12:13:11 AM
proggy is the absolute best way to describe some of the albumand yes, it is daring for an electronic band to make an album like that
5/14/2013 12:17:05 AM
It's daring to dive headfirst into one of the most hated eras in the history of popular music and wholeheartedly embrace it. They were wise to recruit the one man who prevailed in the anti-disco era, but it's still a stretch. On top of that, we're talking about a record that has an extended Broadway-style suite AND a spoken word track from an obscure modern composer.
5/14/2013 12:18:23 AM
Based on the unrelentingly blind devotion their rabid fanbase has for them, I don't think it's anything revolutionary or risky. People were going to jizz all over themselves no matter what they put out. With that said, I can still enjoy it for what it is and have it on in the background while I'm doing other shit though. It's mellow, groovy music that doesn't need to be blasted to have profound effects on my mood. [Edited on May 14, 2013 at 12:25 AM. Reason : .]
5/14/2013 12:23:40 AM
What does the fanbase have to do with the quality or content of the album?"Man, that Sgt. Pepper is nothing fancy. All those damn teeny boppers."
5/14/2013 12:25:53 AM
I guess I'm not making sense. My point is that it's annoying to hear people claim it's the most revolutionary album ever when it isn't. I like the album for it is- it's stuff you listen to, not something that makes you want to get up and dance or blast it during a house party. These points aren't really related. One is an observation, the other is an opinion
5/14/2013 12:31:46 AM
who has claimed that?
5/14/2013 12:33:31 AM
people on Facebook, Reddit, etc.
5/14/2013 12:34:35 AM
I guess I don't see anyone in this thread fawning over the record just because it exists or because it's Daft Punk, so that's a strange comment to me.Either way, the good parts are excellent, and the weird parts are interesting, but to me there's a lot of filler.
5/14/2013 12:34:41 AM
never said anyone in this thread. i said "people" which means from all over the place.

i still have yet to check that out as well as the Mikal Cronin

UJustWait84 ... just stop. youre losing this
5/14/2013 12:15:13 PM
I could listen to Giorgio by Moroder on repeat
5/14/2013 1:20:17 PM
5/14/2013 1:45:30 PM
^^ The last half is way too much like Yes for me. Just when you think there can't be another superfluous layer, here's a giant guitar solo!
5/14/2013 2:03:17 PM
well that explains why I like it and you not so much!
5/14/2013 2:06:40 PM
Which is exactly what I was thinking. A friend just came in when I was listening to it and said, "Are you listening to fucking Primus?"As for gunzz's comment, UJustWait, I think the point is you're missing the point on it being a revolutionary piece of work. Even if the whole thing isn't great, it's a big deal to take such a deliberate step into the past. I understand why you'd think revisiting those sounds isn't original, but it is a big deal.Look at the Ramones. They played Ronettes songs at double speed and changed the world.
5/14/2013 2:09:46 PM
I like Giorgio by Moroder, but the middle part of the song (right after Giorgio finishes talking the first time) sounds like a song that was left off of the Tron Legacy soundtrack. Not that that is a bad thing[Edited on May 14, 2013 at 3:33 PM. Reason : ooo]
5/14/2013 3:33:18 PM
I don't know, superfluous layers can be rad. paranoidandroidian.wish my headphone jack wasn't brokenAlso this is silly but I can't listen to "Within"'s chorus without thinking of the chorus of Pinback's "True North". [Edited on May 14, 2013 at 4:03 PM. Reason : .]

the new daft punk album is good and fun to listen to and super ambitious but

i like this majical cloudz album a lot. sorta in the active child family who i also love. glad this guy is on the hopscotch lineup.
5/14/2013 7:52:28 PM
digging the new Dillinger record. Listened several times today. As much as I dig it though, if I had to judge it right now it's still probably my 4th favorite from them. It's cool that it is stripped down a little bit (even though I loved some of the orchestration and electronics on the last couple records). It's just a little more straight forward (at least as much as dillinger can be) compared to their other albums and doesn't have anything super new to bring to the table from them which is why it wouldn't rank higher for me. But in the end, regardless of that, it is still a really fun listen and the drumming is ridiculous.
5/14/2013 8:30:16 PM
so what do y'all think about that new daft punk record?
