Being a super oldster, I've seen Built to Spill, Yo La Tengo, Liars, Deerhoof, The Mountain Goats, Lambchop, Corrosion of Conformity (opening for Metallica lolz), and Versus. I'm sure it's going to be a rad time, but I am gonna have to pass due to my brokeness.
4/18/2012 12:18:42 AM
really looking forward to seeing Jimmy Fallon destroy some chicken at Beasley's
4/18/2012 12:20:58 AM

4/18/2012 12:22:17 AM
used to be a huge built to spill fan boy, but I was underwhelmed when I saw them a few years agoNot saying they can't be great, but I think I'll passDan Deacon though, SUPER pumped
4/18/2012 12:24:18 AM
yeah BTS live has sucked dicks latelyhopefully they pull their shit together for City Plaza. I'm excited.
4/18/2012 12:26:56 AM
I saw The Roots at the Millennium Center in Winston-Salem at an RJR party promoting KOOL cigarettes.I'm just not that excited about Hopscotch this year. I feel like it really needs to establish an identity.
4/18/2012 12:40:34 AM
pretty sure they've had a very distinct identity since year onealso, this is going to help a whole hell of a lot:http://open.spotify.com/user/jedidiahgant/playlist/5b2RDSo83KsTrnMYqNx14j
4/18/2012 12:42:11 AM
it has an identity. of being a fun fucking time. there will be plenty of rad music, regardless of folks evaluation of the lineup. like someone said before, one of the things i like most about hopscotch is catching bands i've never heard of that turn out to be really good. another of my favorite things would have to be the copious amounts of alcohol.
4/18/2012 12:43:29 AM
Hopscotch also gives me the superhuman strength to attend shows from noon-5am, drinking during a majority of that time, and waking up around 10-11 and doing it all over again for 3 daysI was nearly dead during the Budos Band set last year
4/18/2012 12:45:57 AM
lol I was wondering where you fount that playlist
4/18/2012 12:46:45 AM
NewRaleigh is already doing their part by promoting the hell out of it, ha
4/18/2012 12:50:15 AM
yeah, although i am disappointed in the relative lack of mid-level bands, one of the exciting things is discovering new music
4/18/2012 1:17:44 AM
4/18/2012 1:20:58 AM
DEERHOOF YES
4/18/2012 1:22:05 AM
Escort is pretty awesome. Not gonna pay over a wait, i'll just get on the comp...
4/18/2012 1:23:11 AM
Just gonna say there's not enough on that list to justify paying $165 for plus hidden costs, which all equate to $400 or more. Honestly, the fact that it's in Wake county doesn't help for me, but that's a personal thing. Highlights for me include: Oneida, Escort, the Oh Sees, Wye Oak, Young Magic, Ducktails ...a few others; all this just looking at the lineup. Anyway, no thanks.Y'all have fun!!!
4/18/2012 1:34:39 AM
The Hot Chip thing came from a friend of mine who promotes for the fest posting the new single from them under the title "NEW HOP CHIP," combined with the rumors that were posted. Deer tick was for similar reasons. The others were just giving more credit where credit wasn't due apparently. rich, to answer your question from earlier - yes, I do want to be in Whatever Brains. I would rock free Artists Passes any day for this. But nothing more...[Edited on April 18, 2012 at 1:42 AM. Reason : k]

don't knock the roots live show, even if you don't listen to their albums.it's unlike almost any other hip hop act you'll ever see.there's a reason they've played tons of festivals.
4/18/2012 11:00:00 AM
The Roots are amazing live. I'd pay top dollar just to see them again.

4/18/2012 11:52:37 AM
Been spending the morning checking out a lot of these undercard bands...Escort sounds like it's going to be insanely fun on the plaza, loving My Best Fiend, The Spits, Ital, Amen Dunes, Big Troubles, Frustrations, Pop. 1280, and also enjoying Nobunny, Cheater Slicks, Oren Ambarchi, Burglar Fucker, Chuck Johnson, Duchess Says, etc.
4/18/2012 11:52:55 AM

worlds will collide when Grayson joins Joe Ovies on 99.9 the fan at 4
4/19/2012 2:35:11 PM
i only have one complaint and that's The Beast making the festival.godalmighty, they're horrendous.
4/21/2012 8:03:40 PM
The Beast is definitely pretty bad in my opinion, and I was trying to think what was worse the other day; the PG lyrics or the jazz fusion backed themes in general. The more I look at it, the more I understand the lineup and the reasons they book who they do. Hating on it comes out of these crazy expectations I had after the first lineup, but I don't know why. There was a good number of things on that first bill that I hadn't heard of or wouldn't have gotten the chance to see without the festival. Overall, with the exception of genre-complaints, I think these two do a pretty good job in terms of booking things under the radar and the upandcoming's. The local acts or more or less a given, and I'm just going to disregard the has-beens, because the bigger ones are City Plaza shows, and I think that's something we can all agree on that they have been mediocre at best the last two years. Escort may revive that; who knows...Sober me (that didn't just get back from a Terry Malts show) says there's a possibility I may go, but I'm gonna hold out for the Moog lineup since VIP isn't an option at this point...[Edited on April 23, 2012 at 6:40 PM.
