Wait a minute... $15 is a lot for lunch? I spend about $10 on lunch every time I eat someplace other than home, hell I spent like $9 at McDonalds a couple of days ago. A fucking footlong sub, chips, and a drink at subway will run you anywhere from $7-10 depending on whether or not you get the five dollar footlong.

If it's decent food you should expect to shell out more than a ten spot for lunch. Quitcherbitchin.

^Plus it's downtown, made by a renown chef, and it's genuinely delicious.

So yes, your apprehension is very justified.

This thread makes me feel rich. Must be a college student complaining about a $15 lunch, right??

I go out to lunch to eat almost every day, and that's what it ends up costing at least.

But I definitely do see a lot of nerds who for some reason try to "optimize" their daily costs by getting the shittiest, cheapest food and shoving it down their throats. These people just don't like food and have terrible tastes.

I prefer to enjoy my meals, though. You make money so that you can buy things you enjoy.

^Thank you. Let's not pretend that everyone makes the same income.

Bottom line: if you have $15+ to spend on lunch, apparently this restaurant is one of the better places to go in Raleigh.

I'm a poor grad student and do my best to avoid spending $15 on anything. Having said that, I'm going to Beasley's for lunch today because IT'S OKAY TO SPLURGE!! And ffs, since when did the existence of a restaurant automatically mean that you had to choose between never eating there or eating there every day. Fuck people...you go to expensive places just every once in a while. Bitch bitch bitch about it being expensive?? Then don't fucking eat there all the damn time. You should be going out to eat in moderation anyway if you are worried about money. I'm looking forward to this meal today. have one question, if I must choose between the potato salad and the mac n' cheese, which should I order?

The mac and cheese was incredible. But the answer to your question may be "both". If you don't order 2 sides, gasp....your lunch may only be $11.00.

It isn't expensive. It's expensive for what it is and not much better than you could do at home provided you shop at the Farmer's Market.

^^I mean, everyone that's eaten at Beasley's so far has had nothing but praise, so I don't think the opinions on the actual restaurant are quite as polarized.

The naysayers would be similarly present if the thread was titled "9-15 DOLLAR LUNCHES!"

Just found a 100 dollar bill in the bathroom here. It had feces on it, but that didn't prevent the 70 dollars change I got back after my 30 dollar lunch. Whoever left this in the bathroom, thank you!

I can only think of a handful of remarkably bad restaurant experiences in downtown Raleigh in the last year:

Remedy since they changed their menu or ownership or both or whatever it is. Basically that place sucks now. They don't even serve breakfast anymore, and that's why I went in the first place. Those grits were slammin and it was an overall good, filling meal. However now, they have jacked up their prices on a shittier menu.

Tir Na Nog is pretty shitty in my opinion. And anywhere else that does that brunch buffet laziness. They aren't even running with Fountain Dining Hall when they do this. So terrible. I think the Oxford does this too, and that place is pretty shitty not only for brunch buffet and build your own bloody mary bar, but the service is absolutely awful.

Looks like people are only nitpicking with criticisms about Beasleys so far in this thread, so I'm still looking forward to going sometime...

Just got back.

The chicken was delicious and unlike anything I've ever had at any other place that serves fried chicken. Definitely better than anything I could dream of doing at home. Sorry, CaelNCSU, we haven't all worked in a fucking michelin star restaurant, jackass. You are on a whole other planet with motherfuckin' Gordon Ramsey and some shit. GTFO of here with that. Have you lost all grasp on reality? You think real world class chefs with all of their michelin stars, I mean the ones who really matter (aka, not you and whatever experience you have) go around to restaurants saying, "That was shit because I can do better myself.)? How pretentious are you?

Anyway, the chicken, mac n' cheese, and potato salad was all good. I was disappointed by the fact that they didn't have the chicken biscuit or the chicken and waffles available at the time we ordered. That was a little wtf. Other than that, it was a very good experience. I can't do it often for $15 but it will be a nice treat from time to time.

^^Yeah its a bit expensive if you just consider the ingredients but hey its too heavy of a meal to be eating everyday anyway. Thats what probably surprised me the most because it didn't look like a lot but it gives a really heavy full feeling. The skin wasn't what I expected but not in a bad way, maybe could have been a little saltier to play off the sweetness of the honey more, but the meat was phenomenally tender and juicy with the right amount of fat and very little gristle . On the tea I would just assume they go ahead and make it sweet to begin with since with the syrup you never get a good blend and saturation but thats a minor complaint. I wanted to try a desert but felt like I would be wasting my money cause I was pretty much through after the meal.

That's why you get the dessert to go I do that a lot if it's a restaurant that makes banging in house desserts but there's no way I could eat it after the meal.

I just read some of the comments on the original link, and one person, Admiral Fleece McStaticpants, noted this quote:

Quote :
"While program host Alton Brown gives his intro, someone in Kings begins a round of "Let's Go Ashley!" to the tune of the Tar Heels sport chant."

I actually thought it was a decently composed article at first. But now I know that Jane Hobson Snyder is an idiot. JANE HOBSON SNYDER!
