pretty muchwonder who the new skitter boss will be?
8/11/2013 9:48:11 AM
skitters probably won't be the central focus next year. my guess is it'll be a return to season one type on the run, survive against random attacks, that kind of stuff. and with the human/alien hybrid growing at such an alarming rate it probably won't be long until she's a full adult and they have to deal with her trying to take over the 2nd mass or some kind of control issue. we do get a few extra episodes next season which will be good.
8/11/2013 10:24:07 AM
I swear i thought the finale was going to be two hours long. am i crazy or did my DVR just not record right?Anyways I thought the season was really good and was the best one of the series. little concerned at how the next season is going to start. seems like, yeah, they are right back where they started. Like you said.Hal is such a pussy and I'm glad the shit with karen is over.I bet they focus on the new alien hybrid baby a lot. Will be interesting to see her powers manifest
8/11/2013 12:27:00 PM
I was disappointed that this entire season did not contain a single overlord. And they also did not explain why Karen was somehow in charge of operations instead of an overlord. Shouldn't she have been essentially a pre-skitter (though she never appeared to start changing)? Also, are we to assume that the final military operation was essentially just the 2nd Mass? Blah, just so much not explained (and I'm guessing never will be).
8/11/2013 10:46:39 PM
^wasn't Karen a surrogate for an overlord? After Tom killed one of the overlords in the prior season I just assumed they would use Karen's body to ensure that didn't happen again.
8/12/2013 7:51:43 AM
^^They said that the decoy group on the train was bailed out by the Volm helping them. So not just the 2nd Mass involved with that.
8/12/2013 8:11:49 AM
karen was the overlord. correct?IIRC an earlier episode this season when the rebel skidders were saying that new overlord was more ruthless than the one Tom killed. it turned out to be Karen.[Edited on August 12, 2013 at 11:50 AM. Reason : r]
8/12/2013 11:50:21 AM
When I said Overload, I meant that as a synonym for the Espheni race as opposed to the looser definition of "the person in charge". From what we've understood, harnessed children turn into Skitters, not Espheni. Up until now we had always just assumed that the Skitters were a slave race different from the Espheni. Was Karen's case somewhat different? Why did she never start to change appearance? Also, she somehow stayed under their control in Season 2 after the harness was removed, but that was never explained. The Espheni Overlords are supposed to have brains that hold all the battle-plans like a database, so without the Espheni biology, I doubt a human brain could maintain that same role. I guess I was just hoping for some sort of explanation regarding her unique status before they killed her off. Maybe they'll go into it next season.

oh we back, tonight
6/22/2014 2:31:35 PM
Not really sure how I felt about last night's episode.Knew they'd have to break them apart again, and knew there was no way the whole "happy" start to the episode would last very long. Hoping it picks up a little more next week.
6/23/2014 7:48:22 AM
holy shit this episode went in so many different directions it was hard to make sense of anything. I really had forgotten how season 3 ended so it took me a little while to realize what was going on. So right now we have.1. Tom, Pope, Hal, and Weaver are living in a ghetto camp. Tom and Weaver are currently in isolation cells.2. Ann and Anthony are leading a resistance group just outside of the encampment. 3. Matt has been scooped up and entered into a espheni (nazi) youth camp, but is putting together an underground resistance of other kids.4. Ben wakes up in a peaceful "chinatown" lead by now older, whiter, and platinum blonde Lexi. Maggie and Lourdes and the rest of the town seem to be brainwashed with this new found peace.I thought that scene between Tom and Cochise was such a cop out. The Volm ditched Earth to take care of their home planets and Cochise was basically saying "i can't do shit to help you now. keep the faith". I know that there is no show with a superior race aiding you the entire time, but it still felt like such tacked on end to their involvement. I guess we'll see how or when they return.
6/24/2014 8:02:05 AM
also: giant mosquito skitters
6/24/2014 8:39:05 AM
this shit isn't cancelled yet?
6/25/2014 1:04:37 AM
Someone remind me what happened with Lourdes? She was being mind controlled by those worm things right? I thought she died when they discovered her as the traitor?
6/25/2014 12:11:55 PM
^From what I can recall, Lexi touched her head or something while Lourdes was in a cage & it caused them to get extracted out of her
6/25/2014 12:18:39 PM
^yep, lexi put her hands over her and extracted the parasite. then she crushed them into dust and everyone was all
6/25/2014 1:24:28 PM
I guess everyone quit watching.]
9/5/2014 12:19:10 AM
I'm still watching. It's not a particularly good show, but it's ok for the summer and I just want to know how it ends at this point. Season finale was interesting.
9/5/2014 7:05:10 AM
Still watching, just not a great season, haha.Brunette Lexi much better than hyper-white Lexi.
9/5/2014 7:05:14 AM
Next season is the last season...thankfully.
9/5/2014 8:19:10 AM
Still better than any network sci-fi show.[Edited on September 5, 2014 at 9:12 AM. Reason : can we talk about how shitty extant is?]
9/5/2014 9:10:25 AM
I haven't watched Extant, how bad is it?
9/5/2014 9:22:44 AM
9/5/2014 11:34:47 AM
I've gotten half-way through this season so far, but it just feels really bad to me. With the Nazi child camps and the Lexi "magic", its lost the basic alien survival theme that I enjoyed from previous seasons. Well, I guess the theme is still there, but the show just isn't the same.
9/5/2014 4:02:53 PM
Finished the season. I'm really, really dreading how they will start the next season. The "alien" Tom sees at the end of the season seems to be heavily hinted at being his "dead" wife (the book, the picture, the wedding near the end of the season, his comments about looking beautiful, etc). I had a feeling they would pull this drama at some point with either Tom or Anne's dead significant other, but I figured they would have done it well before now if they were going to. It feels like they have run out of ideas and are going back to past sub-plots which they opted to ignore for one reason or another. Between this and the very forced Hal, Maggie, Ben love triangle, they just seem to want to insert random tween drama for no reason.
9/16/2014 1:31:35 PM
the only good thing is that next season is the final season so maybe they have an end game in mind. Also, i think every single season finale of this show has ended on the "cliffhanger" of Tom Mason disappearing into space.
9/16/2014 3:10:07 PM
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LITTLE GIRL FROM THE CAMP?She was speaking for the burned face fish head and ran off when he died. They never showed her again. I wonder if she made it on to Tom's beamer.
11/15/2014 2:55:56 AM
season 5 premiere is in 2 weeks
6/14/2015 2:24:11 PM
Anyone catch the premiere on Sunday? Really good, I'm pleased with how fast paced it was as well as aggressive Tom.
7/2/2015 1:35:17 PM
I don't understand why he didn't ask/tell the Volm (friendly alien race) about the new race
7/2/2015 4:14:03 PM
they're really cramming in a lot of storylines
7/19/2015 11:19:39 PM
They probably had two seasons worth of plot already planned but they realized they might wanna go ahead and call it quits before it gets bad. Last season with Lexi was rough but outside of that I think it's been a pretty solid show. This season has picked it up quite a bit.
7/20/2015 10:32:09 AM
Shitty decision by Tom last epsiode, IMO. Pope is deservedly PISSED.
7/20/2015 11:04:12 AM
^Yes he's pissed but up until Sarah died he didn't take a single second thought about any of the other deaths.
7/20/2015 3:22:43 PM
So what is the deal with Anthony? He was real quick to jump ship to Pope's goons. He's been a solid guy for the whole show and now he is watching Pope literally torture Hal without really even hesitating? His whole reason for leaving was because Tom & co didn't want him fighting when he was suffering from PTSD, right? Is that really enough to piss him off that much?
7/29/2015 1:25:48 PM
What a shitty ending that made no sense.
8/31/2015 9:47:07 PM
What didn't make sense to you? I definitely didn't think it was the best ending, but I understood most everything and didn't think it was completely horrible. Cheesy, yes, and rushed as hell, but I don't know how it could have ended too differently that would have been better. It did feel like they were just about halfway through the finale and were like, "oh shit, this is the last episode and we have to hurry up and end the show now", which is really weird because they knew before the season started that this would be the final season. They had so much time to give everything proper pacing, and they really fucked that up. It felt like they thought they had 12 episodes to go and then it got cut to 10 at the last minute or whatever, but that's not what happened at all. The pacing of this show was slow and methodical for the entirety and then the last 20 minutes just hit fast forward and gave us a really condensed "boss battle" that wasn't what the show deserved. I kinda wish that they hadn't made Pope into a bad guy, and was a bit disappointed that they didn't actually USE him as a bad guy once he did turn, but aside from that, the ending was about what I expected. With just much worse pacing than I would have prefered.
8/31/2015 10:17:12 PM
They left so many loose threadsThe espheni queen had a daughter that was killed by ancient romans? Lol okay, what happened to them just building an empire? Why couldn't the volm just bomb DC?Why were they so trusting with the new motorcycle gang after they were previously infiltrated by two clones? Why bother killing Anne if they're literally going to bring her back to life 10 min later? What happened to Weaver's heart condition? Why'd they stop making those super bullets from season one?
8/31/2015 10:49:13 PM
^I think they stopped with the super bullets because all of the alien mechs and armored units were down. Since Tom blew up their energy station on the moon, there hasn't been any need for the super bullets.Definitely felt way too rushed. I always figured that Pope would go out in a blaze of glory, finally respecting Tom enough that he would sacrifice his life or something for the rest of the 2nd Mass and would go down in history as one of the greatest warriors of the war. I'm not quite sure how he was able to survive that explosion but that just wasn't a fitting end for his character. Also, that guy that got stabbed by the flying alien thing. He was literally introduced a handful of episodes ago. Nobody cares that he died. And that alien superweapon slug thing? I felt like that was way too half-assed a way for them to finish things off. If literally the entire invading force was centered around one single lone queen, why would she be ENTIRELY unguarded. Not even a few foot soldiers just hanging out in case a squad of humans came through the service tunnel that led LITERALLY directly to her lair? Tom didn't really even need the slug thing, an assault rifle would have probably been enough to take out the queen. Why would she even be on Earth? Why not in orbit far away from anything? All it would take would be one lucky hit by the humans on the Lincoln Memorial and that's it, game over. And lol at the explanation of why they attacked earth. They attacked because they tried attacking before and humans defended themselves? What kind of reasoning is that? I guess they just expected the humans to roll over and surrender immediately without fighting? Are humans the only species in history to actually resist them?I think the queen said that the first invasion was 1500 years ago -- how the hell did humans with spears and swords in 500AD repel an invasion from an alien race capable of interstellar travel? And somehow absolutely no record of it was kept? No remains from any aliens or ships or anything have ever been found anywhere? No books or paintings? No recordings of a mass drop in human population? Why even include that?Too bad it was kind of a lackluster ending though. I feel like this was a fairly solid show for its whole run. There were definitely some cheesy parts but on the whole I enjoyed it and genuinely looked forward to watching the episodes.[Edited on September 1, 2015 at 9:32 AM. Reason : ]
9/1/2015 9:30:25 AM
Also, what happened to the 'bigger, badder' enemy that was hinted at? Or the possibility that the Volm were secretly evil? BahThey should have let one the Masons die.
9/1/2015 9:33:45 AM
^Oh right I forgot about that! At one point the Espheni were trying to reason with them and say that there was a worse evil out there coming.
9/1/2015 11:59:43 AM
What was the point of the dampening field around DC? What was powering it if the sole moon generator station wasn't working? I feel like this show was progressing along nicely until the last season with Lexi. It was still a decent show overall, but could have been so much better if they had taken a different path after Charleston.
9/1/2015 12:27:50 PM
The whole Lexi plot-line (and Season 4 in general) was a complete train-wreck IMO. The first three seasons were a gritty alien survival story, and then Season 4 jumped the shark and became magical/supernatural with Lexi. Not to mention the concentration and brain-washing camps which were completely out of place. A good example of Godwin's Law.It sort of sounds like the last season mostly fixed that atmosphere, but I have not watched it yet. It is really disappointing to hear what they did with Pope's character, though. I always expected Tom to be the one to deliver the final blow, but I expected Pope to take out a major objective with his life while cackling like a maniac.
9/1/2015 1:24:31 PM
9/1/2015 2:24:42 PM
so Tom carried his dead wife from DC to some beach somewhere in like NC or SC and Pope had enough energy to pull himself out of the rubble in the VA base, somehow find him, say 'sup' and die 20 seconds laterwhat a shitshow of a finale/season
9/4/2015 1:30:05 PM
how did pope get all those guys to give their lives for him fighting against humans?
