Lyanna made Ned promise to NEVER tell anyone, I believe.

What if Jon is dead. Plain and simple.
4/25/2012 2:50:55 PM
While I also think that R+L=J and Dany and Jon being together in the end due to Ice and Fire is a huge possibility, I honestly really wouldn't be that happy to see Dany on the throne in the end. Besides the fact that having dragons in this world is interesting to the story at large, I haven't been a huge fan of her storyline as a whole and I'm not sure that the Targaryen claim to the throne is that great other than the fact that they came, conquered and held it for a long time prior to Robert's rebellion. We still need to find out some more about the time of the mad king, the rebellion, the story of the seasons in their world, and the whole deal with why the Others are back before I'll even take a guess at who ends up on the throne.[Edited on April 25, 2012 at 3:17 PM. GRRM doesn't have the nuts to just kill Jon off. He's gone soft.
4/25/2012 4:11:13 PM
GRRM has probably already written a manuscript that involves Jon being killed off and will likely to be too fucking lazy to go back and change it when the pressure really starts coming on him to release the next book.and LOL at the guy who spoiled the Red Wedding and Jon dying in the "Spoiler Alert" thread in Chit Chat. A lot of people aren't going to be too happy when they read that [Edited on April 25, 2012 at 4:19 PM. Reason : ]

Personally I think he will release the next book, after a couple years he will release an end date for the last book, then two weeks before the release his house will burn down with him in it, along with all the copies of the book while he takes a candlelit bubblebath.^I edited it out. I felt bad.[Edited on April 25, 2012 at 4:21 PM. Reason : a]

There's no way he would have had all that build up with Jon just to kill him at the Wall -- at this point he's still just Ned Stark's bastard commanding the Watch. If he dies now, no one really cares -- except Arya. But all she would do is take revenge on the whole Watch.Plus yadda yadda prophecy etc.I am very fascinated by the idea that all these visions with Daenerys are just Targaryen madness. Same with Rhaegar being convinced he had to steal Lyanna. I know the AA prophecy has support from multiple characters, but what if that just turns out to be absolutely false?I think when GRRM says shit about "unreliable narrators", I think we are going to have the rug pulled out from under us. Someone fed-ex that man some speed.
4/25/2012 4:36:19 PM
all i know is i hope he finishes the last 2 books soon. That man is 2 big macs away from a massive heart attack
4/27/2012 9:30:29 AM
I would really be blown away if he is able to finish the series in a non rushed fashion in 2 books. I expect 3 even 4 more would be necessary. Unless he takes a large time leap somewhere, which I feel like he stated that won't be happening.
4/27/2012 10:38:26 AM
Jaqen was talking to Arya last night about the Lord of Light... I could be mistaken but isn't he supposed to be a follower of the Faceless God?
4/30/2012 11:44:22 AM
I think he just means that fire was going to take them. The fire = light, red god, etc. Regardless according to his religion 3 deaths are owed.
4/30/2012 12:12:02 PM
^ yes. I agree with that. I admit I was a little confused back when reading the books about whether he was a follower of R'hllor or what, with all the connections to the God of Many Faces and such. I think the God of Many Faces was the recognition that all religions share death. Since those three were going to die by fire, he was only referring to the fact that the red god was cheated from three deaths. I don't think he is a follower of the R'hllor.I think we will continue to learn more about the religions via Arya's character in the next book.
4/30/2012 12:17:50 PM
I was definitely confused with the mention of the God of Light last night...just wrapped up A Dance with Dragons today...
4/30/2012 12:36:43 PM
so is there anywhere for a new reader to talk/listen/read discussions about the early books without getting too much spoiled in the meantime? I wish I had a friend reading these as well because I'm nearly finished with book 1 (Robb just crossed the Twins) with book 2 waiting in the wings. I suppose that's what happens when you jump on something late.
4/30/2012 2:04:46 PM
just convince another friend to read them

yeah or that.

Thanks for the site though, that is helpful to wrap things up and confirm things I was thinking.
5/1/2012 9:34:42 AM
yeah i've been using that site some too. i just want someone to be like "man this is awesome" then i can say "heck yeah, what do you think happens next"
5/1/2012 9:53:49 AM
well tonight was different.
5/6/2012 10:46:38 PM
yep.
5/6/2012 11:32:52 PM
I want to be irritated, but I can't just yet. We'll see what happens next with the changes they've made.
5/7/2012 8:29:19 AM
i dont remember the dragons being stolen from the book. did i miss that?
5/7/2012 8:44:17 AM
No you didn't miss that.
5/7/2012 9:23:14 AM
the lack of jojen and meera makes me sad.
5/7/2012 9:38:46 AM
Also, that girl that Robb is talking to is obviously not Janie. And they never showed them crossing at the Twins and being promised to one of the Frey girls. Catelyn mentioned it but I figured that since that was such a big reason for the Frey betrayal they would have shown it.When Theon was taking Winterfell I was looking at all of his men trying to figure out which one was Ramsay but I guess he's still at Dreadfort since Roose told Robb that he could have his bastard at Winterfell whenever needed.
5/7/2012 9:49:17 AM
^I thought they showed the Frey scene in the show.
5/7/2012 9:51:25 AM
Yeah they did show the Twins scene last season.
5/7/2012 9:54:38 AM
Without Meera and Jojen, I think they will have Osha and Rickon stay with Bran and Hodor. Don't think there's any way they can just have Bran and Hodor go off in their own direction...
5/7/2012 10:36:40 AM
They will have to split them up at some point. There story lines go too far astray to just leave them together. They can probably just save the casting for season 3 if they want to.
5/7/2012 11:27:04 AM
i'm thinking that bran, rickon, hodor, and osha all all travel together for a while. at some point, either late this season or early next, i would expect bran to dream of jojen and meera's arrival. the next day they show up, tell the starks to split up and progress from there.
5/7/2012 11:30:00 AM
What did you guys think of the Theon chapter from the 6th book? Any updates on the release date for that book?
5/8/2012 10:52:21 AM
I enjoyed it, though it has been awhile since I read it now. No idea on the date for the next book yet.
5/8/2012 10:56:39 AM
I'm thinking that Bran & co. encounter the Crannogmen while traveling. They could provide them shelter or a place to hide while the Greyjoys are out hunting them. Perhaps during this hiding phase Bran will have a green dream or tell Jojen about his dream about Winterfell being flooded and the Reeds will figure out that he is a greenseer.
5/9/2012 9:13:40 AM
^^^ It further solidified my love for Stannis.
5/9/2012 4:56:33 PM
I just started A Dance With Dragons.I'm so afraid of reading anything in this thread for fear of a spoiler.So...I'd like to read some of it, but won't.
5/11/2012 11:19:36 PM
Nothing happens in 80% of the book. Might as well skip every Dany chapter
5/12/2012 12:17:18 AM
So apparently if you want to talk at all about how the show diverged from the book you can't talk about it in the show thread because then you're spoiling the book. Because spoiling a 14-year old book THAT YOU'RE ALREADY GETTING MEGASPOILED BY WATCHING THE SHOW...I just don't know....
5/15/2012 7:31:17 AM
yeah its pretty much the stupidest shit i've ever heardbut that's okayman I want to send that dude a PM about the RW...but I'm better than that.
5/15/2012 7:46:02 AM
There is truly some amazingly stupid overprotection of spoilers going on in the show thread. I don't know that I've ever seen people stick their heads so far into the sand on any other message board I've visited. But, seeing as how I find ignorance funny more often than not, it's good for a laugh.
5/15/2012 8:13:07 AM
look at it from the other side of the fence.
5/15/2012 8:23:38 AM
haha it's the walking dead thread all over again. i'm glad i don't really mind spoilers... makes life easier. i've just started book 2.. i'm loving the books.
5/15/2012 8:30:44 AM
i've been on both sides. I watched season 1 before having read any of the books and didn't want to read into any of the storyline progressions so that I wouldn't be spoiled. Keeping the TV series as a separate entity. Now i've stopped watching the TV show and have began reading the books. Book 1 was OK, but I felt like I was just rehashing the first season of the show in more detail. Now that i'm finally past the opening episodes of season 2 I finally feel like i'm in new territory so I don't want to watch the show and have major plot points spoiling the book. So really, it's going to be hard to please everyone. Yes it's a 14 year old book, but honestly if you aren't a fan of that genre or reading in general it's possible to not be spoiled by the book and enjoy the show as a completely separate vehicle. I find it's actually much harder for a first time reader to get through unspoiled by the TV viewers.oh and if you're just in the GoT thread to troll and leak a few spoilers because it's funny to see people get worked up, well then you're just an asshole and you'll be sent to the Wall like Flying Tiger]
