I know nothing really about that model, but I think Marantz tables are way overvalued by people. The only way I can see these tables going for big bucks is by rarity and collector value, and that most people selling them don't think people play records anymore or something. That's my only explanation, because you can get a much better table from different brands of that era for the same amount of money when you're in the $700 range. I don't think Marantz tables are bad or anything, I just would never pay ridiculous amounts of money for them like that...

So I was at UO with my girlfriend today and saw this abomination: I can't even imagine what the tracking force is to get that fucking thing to work. ]
1/4/2012 12:49:16 AM
UO, you mean? You shoulda went yesterday. It was the end of their sale. They had some pretty decent records for cheap...

Anyone have much experience with Remember When Records in Greensboro? Stopped by on the way back to Raleigh and they seemed to have a good selection of used records. Everything was graded with relivant info (i.e. pressing, included poasters etc) and was well organized. Checked out the "New Arrivals" and the first record in the box was a near mint condition (they graded it M-) 2nd pressing of the Beatles first album for $500. Also, from what my dad said, the guy will talk your ear off about records and has a warehouse full of records in addition to what is in the store. Anyway, just wanted to see if others who know more about this stuff than me had been by the store and had any opinion on their prices, grading etc.

It's a cool store. It's worth going with someone who knows what they're looking at...or Popsike.

The Fisher I had is sold. Currently on the market is a Superscope R-330 along with a Sanyo rd s24 cassette deck (single, has dB meter). Crappy instagram photo in my gallery. Both are in good working order. The amp could use 2 more fuse-type bulbs (75 cents online). Will take $80 for the pair.[Edited on January 8, 2012 at 9:55 PM. Reason : important to note the Sanyo is a cassette deck. ]

any place in town to buy inner sleeves?
1/10/2012 10:06:29 PM
Picked this up today, on impulse, because, well, you can't really argue with the cover...
1/13/2012 5:30:29 PM
got the third man vault package yesterday. the raconteurs live LP ended up being kind of a let down since they left "blue veins" off it even though it was part of the set list from the show. they probably couldn't have fit everything on one 12'' since that song ends up being like 10 minutes, so whatever. didn't realize they didn't play "store bought bones" at that show either. easily their 2 best live songs, and they're not on a cool limited release thing. lame.the beck remix of "the hardest button to button" rules though[Edited on January 13, 2012 at 11:54 PM. Anybody who isn't even sure how he stores his records is probably not the first person to need "badass high fi gear" bro.

I've recently gotten three pearl jam vinyls, but really want mother love bone, green river, temple of the dog. of course everywhere i look prices range 100-500. this is going to be tough.
1/21/2012 2:28:42 PM
^Yeah, good luck with those. Did you pick up originals? The second 2 are in print as of last year, and I think Ten was put in print a little while back but has since been discontinued. There (was) a nice-looking BO turntable posted to CL about an hour or so ago for $30. I will give some advice in saying that while these are nice tables, they have cartridges specifically designed for their tables and you DO NOT want to replace them ($$$$$$$$$$$). [Edited on January 21, 2012 at 2:45 PM. Reason : k]
1/21/2012 2:38:13 PM
I got the Vs album as an original, but the other two were new releases from 2011 (Ten and Live on Ten Legs). I prefer the old ones, obviously, but you can't beat the price of the new ones (both around $20), and in ten years they'll prob be worth something anyway. I'm very tempted to buy the $96 copy of mother love bone I found, i'll cherish it forever! It has one of my favorite songs of all time (crown of thorns).
1/21/2012 3:14:58 PM
If you look longer, I'm sure you could find it at a better price than that. Lunchbox in Charlotte always gets in some good rarities on a regular basis. Contact him with what you're looking for, and I'm sure he wouldn't have a problem hunting it down for you. That's without saying that his prices are ALWAYS fair, and he wouldn't have a problem shipping it somewhere. [Edited on January 21, 2012 at 3:26 PM. Reason : k]

Getting ready to put my only-played-once copies of NIN's The Fragile and Smashing Pumpkins' Machina on eBay. Will go under market value for anyone here since it'll avoid fees. Also willing to trade for certain Sonic Youth/Kill Rock Stars LPs or UK version of Strokes' Is This It.All long shots, I know, but thought I'd mention it.
1/21/2012 3:44:04 PM
Whats different about the UK version other than the cover?
1/21/2012 3:49:17 PM
Track list is different. Subsequent US versions might be the same, but I want the UK cover anyway.
1/21/2012 9:44:40 PM
Found 2 relatively rare John Fahey albums today. One is this one in mono, VG+ : http://www.popsike.com/JOHN-FAHEY-Vol-2-Death-Chants-etc-LP-1967-Takoma-RARE/290189919479.html Hmm, actually the record says mono, but has the stereo tag on the cover. Other one is not so rare (10-15 bucks or so). [Edited on January 22, 2012 at 7:12 PM. Reason : k]

Also, is anybody a sucker for buying any vinyl that's essentially worthless, but you keep buying it anyway? For example, I'm a sucker for buying (cheap) copies of Holst's the Planets. Probably my favorite symphony ever. I think I have around 5 different versions, and will buy a new version whenever I find it.
1/22/2012 7:53:06 PM
Just got my copy of the Walkmen reissue from Insound.comHeavy vinyl, nicely done. Would recommend anybody wanting this to get it ASAP. Only 1000 made and only through Insound.

picked up the wye oak 7'' with the danzig and kinks covers. pretty awesome.

If anybody is interested, I am willing to sell this amp combo I was pushing my turntable through here:Everything works perfectly. Only downsides are that it needs the bulbs replaced (around 75 cents a piece online), and that it has no tuner. Lot of features on this thing though, including dual turntable inputs, etc. $100. PM if interested.

Might already be sold, but here is a Marantz 6200 table I have for sale right now. $200. Firm. Too high? Fuck you:http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320811448748+&item=320811448748&lgeo=1&vectorid=229466#ht_686wt_1396Table is in excellent condition; all mechanisms work. PM if interested; you will get dibs pending possible already sold status.

Marantz table has no current potential buyer. Let me know if you're interested as this will most likely go to eBay next weekend. Thanks!

Last chance to get in on this awesome deal of an awesome turntable, folks. Also found Love's Forever Changes for $1 today. How cool am I, exactly?

pulled the trigger several times over, need some tunes while I do some writing.

If any of yins are in the market for an analog amp, this appears like it might be worth it. I'd offer $50. Old Sansuis are pretty decent:http://raleigh.craigslist.org/ele/2870354258.htmlby the way, the "static in the volume knobs" and "one speaker channel is weak" is 99.9% to be an oxidation issue. Also, because I'm a dumbass, I want to save you others the trouble and say NEVER buy Deoxit from Radio Shack. They have their own store brand which seems to be a watered-down mixture of the true chemical, and they also have these tiny pairs of the actual stuff paired with Deoxit gold, which I don't think you'd ever need on this equipment. Anyway, they want 15 bucks for it, and you can get a huge can of it at Guitar Center and the like for 15 bucks. Anyway, check that amp out.
2/25/2012 6:49:48 PM
Going to lunchbox weekend after this one. Gonna tear that store a new a-hole. Cannot wait.
2/29/2012 9:04:11 PM
So evidently, if you buy a record off Amazon and it arrives damaged, it takes over a month for them to replace it.
3/3/2012 4:32:34 PM
^unless there's something special through one seller or something, hit up lunchbox for mail orders. He's glad to do them and great to do business with. I realize I'm pushing that store hard, but it's pretty awesome.
3/3/2012 10:08:39 PM
Local stores also get special editions that chains don't. Example: the independent record store version of Girls' Father, Son, Holy Ghost has one white LP and one black LP plus a flexi-disc, while the standard edition is just a black 2LP with no bonuses.
3/3/2012 10:20:03 PM
And sometimes chains get special editions that independent record stores don't. For example, EMA's album came on purple vinyl through Urban Outfitters. Sorry, just playing devil's advocate. But with the independent thing, subpoop is a good example. Their "loser" editions are I think only available through the small market distributions of indy stores. The thing that sucks about this is that it sets a standard for prices that are a lot higher than the cost of making records. From what I understand, it's even cheaper to actually make a record than it is a CD, but I could be wrong...I mean, the catering to the small market versus the larger chains. Hey, at least records aren't made in China![Edited on March 3, 2012 at 10:25 PM. Reason : k][Edited on March 3, 2012 at 10:29 PM. Reason : k]

bill is a real nice dude, but you'd have to sit on that dc location all day to find much in the way of good used records. i remember he used to (might still) stock all the killed by death lps, which was awesome.is smash still next door? that store is AWESOME.[Edited on March 6, 2012 at 12:38 PM.
