Re: Reyes HomerunsHe's one of the few guys you'd rather NOT have hitting homers, since once he hits a few he tries to hit one everytime. He's much better going gap to gap and using his speed to create extra bases. If he starts getting Homer happy, especially in Citi, his average will drop 50+ points.
6/16/2011 9:45:15 AM
This has been talked about and disputed. Reyes' HRs have never had any causal effect on his avg in the past. His hottest stretch ever came during the period he hit 3 in one game in CBP.Most scouts saw him as a 20 homer guy coming up. He has the bat speed and raw power to plenty of line drives up and out with his regular contact swing.
6/16/2011 10:41:12 AM
And another triple for Reyes. And another multi-hit game for him. He's 6-11 so far this series.

Upon further consideration, good roadtrip. A division leader, a hot team and the wildcard leader and 6-4.. Now gotta start winning more at home!

^All in all, you're correct. But the way it ended was sour nonetheless.

Nice game by Pelfrey last night. Beltran's playing well...and maybe Bay will start to turn it around. I believe he was 2-4 last night.
6/19/2011 10:15:52 AM
Where is this Reyes to the Yankees absurdity coming from? The New York papers are pimping that hardcore and now BBTN is talking about it.
6/19/2011 12:35:49 PM
Reyes announced that he won't do any contract negotiating until the season is over. I don't know if this means he's waiting to see what his free agency price tag will be, but he claims that is is to avoid distractions during the season and that he wants to remain a Met his entire career.I really don't know if I believe him or not, if the Yankees want to pay him top dollar then would he bounce or not?At the moment though I think this is the best thing for the Mets' current season, because we've seen what happens to players after they get their big contracts and have nothing other reason to continue to play so hard.

A walk off HBP...sounds like one of the many ways we lose. But we were on the right side of it this time.

It was weird cheering against Joey Devine, I used to love watching him pitch for NCSU. I didn't even know the Braves traded him.
6/24/2011 2:25:43 AM
Weird game today. Lots of bad calls going in our favor, which is weird. Gee looked awful but yet somehow is in line for the win. 2 of 3 on the road in Texas would be great... and Wright will be back in ~ 3 weeks. Good news.Finish it off now and get to .500![Edited on June 26, 2011 at 5:49 PM. Reason : Reyes is straight beast mode right now. 4-5 with another triple.]
6/26/2011 4:58:02 PM
Bay and Beltran both hit grandslams today. Reyes, again, has a great game (with a triple). in 1000 career games for Reyes: 98 triples, 360 steals...only person with more is Ty Cobb (106 triples, 391 steals). Reyes also has back-to-back 4 hit games (he did it in 2006 as well). Adam Rubin was posting a ton of stats on twitter tonight...I stole a few of them.

2 games over .500. 4 wins in a row, but we haven't been able to gain much ground in the division...the Phils and Braves have each won 3 in a row.And all this offense lately with Wright and Ike on the DL[Edited on June 29, 2011 at 11:02 PM. Reason : ]

Hard not to get excited. Bay looking better, DW in 1.5 weeks, etc.Offense is plenty good enough..
6/30/2011 9:39:24 AM
Once Wright and Ike are back (and if they are hitting as well as they both did before the injuries), then this could be the scariest offense in MLB. Big "ifs" as always, but I can't help but get excited.

Since the Mets awful start, on April 20th, the three best records in the NL are 1) Phillies; 2) Braves; and 3) Mets. FML...The Mets are in a stretch of playing five out of six series against first place teams (Rangers, Tigers, Yankees, Giants and Phillies). Braves should separate for good looking at their schedule coming up.[Edited on July 1, 2011 at 8:49 AM. Reason : x]
