I don't think you've ever actually had a juicy burger if you think Five Guys burgers are juicy. And nobody said Wendy's is better than Five Guys.

Ohh Woodys, gotcha. Haven't had one there.

Five Guys burgers are so greasy I can't believe anyone would identify them as dry.

They're not dry compared to the vast majority of fast food burgers, but they aren't thick enough to get a good char and stay juicy in the middle. Five Guys' fries are the real standouts IMO.

This

Honestly you can't really compare thin burgers to thick ones as they're two different beasts. I would like to suggest that we split up the burger rankings into 2 categories:

skinny burgers & thick burgers

Your friend is wrong. They're pretty good, but definitely not the best. It's like an overpriced Five Guys.

y'all been to Elevation Burger in Brier Creek? It's pretty tasty, and it's all organic, the Ben and Jerry's of burgers.

they are similar... in that you go and order the food and then they bring it too you... Other than that, I disagree with that comparison. While having a limited menu, it is still more than five guys, and it is much better. I wouldn't call it the best in raleigh by any means, but it is definitely better than five guys IMO, and worth the little extra you pay. Also, it really isn't too pricey, considering you should split any side you get with someone else.

I do feel that most people who venture out for burgers have tried it by now though, so this shouldn't be news to anyone.

I've had their other stuff, but not the burger. I'll check it out next time.

As far as fast food type burgers, I really like Melvin's.

ahh I miss living downtown.

^^ Get the gabby burger. Sooooooooo damn good. Also their Chicken Gabby is tasty too.

I think Melvins has been gone for at least 2-3 years (that was the place on Hillsborough with cheap burgers right?)...

My go-to is still Player's Retreat. I can kill a couple of Bernies in one visit. If you ask nicely, they'll make you a double Bernie. The Pete is also a real winner.

I get some extra mayo on the side, dash some extra salt on my plate, cut the burger in half, and go dipping.

The PR has a nicely seasoned grill that makes for a lovely traditional burger taste. You just can't beat old school good and greasy.

Just thought about this: my first visit to the PR was right at 23 years ago, right before we played Carolina at Reynolds...and we won by eight points. Hillsborough Street was SLAMMED. It was marvelous.

Maybe the goddamn tv at my table made Tribeca's burger that much less appealing.

Melvin's only opened up when I was a senior, but I remember it being pretty mediocre fast food burgers.

Well I guess that's not exactly accurate, Melvin's burgers were more like burgers you get at a cookout by people who don't know how to grill burgers. Poorly shaped, smaller than the bun, and overcooked.

They weren't pretty, but they were pretty good. And prices could have changed, but when they opened it was pretty cheap.

When they opened, you could get a $2.50 burger and fries combo. It was awesome.
