there's a drip pan of some sort that catches condensation as it falls. the drain hole in that pan is plugged. usually a piece of wire or possibly a coat hanger will help you clean it out.if you can't find it, i'm sure dan can fix it.

What Chris said. Let me know if you can't figure it out...I'll be glad to do so.

I need a catalytic converter replaced on an 03 Vibe (P0420 code), can you do muffler work? Also, have you done much work on motorcycles (valve adjustment)?
9/16/2011 12:06:09 PM
As far as muffler/converter work, I used to do plenty when I had access to a full exhaust shop with welder and tubing bender. Alas, I do not any more. I have three shops that I recommend to do good exhaust work for a good price: Bob's Muffler Shop (http://www.bobsmufflershop.com/), Henry's Muffler Shop (http://www.henrysmufflershop.com/), and RJ's (http://www.rjscustompiping.com/). Bob's and Henry's will have the best prices and both do good work. RJ's is more expensive and probably overkill for what you need.Exhaust work of any kind is best left to an exhaust shop in my opinion. I'd never have a regular shop replace any piping, mufflers, or catalytic converters because most are poorly equipped to do a decent job. And most regular shops will only use direct fit converters, which are godawful expensive. Exhaust shops can use cheaper universal converters.Depends on the bike. If they have bucket followers with shims, I'm not equipped to handle those. I can only check them; I don't have the shims to adjust them unless I was to order them.I have done work on bikes before, but it depends on the bike and what you need. Shout out for the fine work you did last weekend. I know it didn't go as planned, but you stuck in there like a trooper until things were right. Can't ask for anything better than that!
10/11/2011 4:17:02 PM
Hey man, they might not have gone as planned, but that kind of thing doesn't scare me! I'm glad everything is working correctly. Just goes to show that even if a part is brand new in the box, defects happen. Just takes a little tenacity and good troubleshooting to solve the problem. Thanks again, and let me know if you need anything else!

Are you equipped to mount tires? If not, would you please recommend someone? Thanks!
10/17/2011 1:07:04 PM
Car work received. Got front brakes put on. Originally wanted to have both front and rear replaced, but zxappeal advised me that my rear drums and shoes looked really good and didn't recommend them be replaced. He ended up adjusting them and further advised me to take the new drums and shoes back to the store for a refund. He did an awesome job. The new brakes feel awesome and they don't wobble anymore when I drive or stop. Bump for great success!
10/17/2011 3:23:50 PM
Thanks a bunch, Aaron...I'm glad they work great! Glad to be of service however I can.meekrab...I'm not equipped to do tires, but I can suggest Murray's on South Saunders Street, just down from Ray Price Harley Davidson, or College Inn 66 on the corner of Western and Avent Ferry. If they're really low profile tires, you need to call them first to see if and when they can do them. I know Murray's can, don't know about College Inn.

And back to the top...I'm sitting in the garage right now.
10/18/2011 12:34:35 PM
As I noted in the garage thread:Thanks much to Dan for getting me set straight and back on the road after I managed to put a hole in my transmission pan last night. Both the work (getting the pan welded so I didn't have to buy a new one) and the willingness to start the job late so I could actually get home are greatly appreciated! Went the extra mile (quite a few, literally) to help me out.Very highly recommended for any work needs you might have.

Again, thanks so much, Chris, for your plug! I was glad to help get you going.

2001 Ford Mustang V6... have an exhaust tick...i'm guessing the driver side exhaust manifold, but can't visibly see where it is coming from...how much to locate and weld?
10/19/2011 4:01:18 PM
IF it can be welded...and it depends on whether or not it has to come off to weld. If it's a cast iron manifold, I usually won't weld it, as it's a crapshoot even with preheating and using nickel rods. I'm pretty sure that Ford has been using tube steel manifolds on the final versions of the Essex V6.These Ford manifolds evidently have a documented history of failure and/or cracking, now I've spent a little time doing some research. It might be best to swap it out with an aftermarket replacement manifold, especially since they can be had from RockAuto for about 73 bucks or so. I've dealt with this kind of problem before on Jeep 4.0 engines, and the aftermarket manifold from Dorman is the way to go when dealing with these.Labor to remove and replace the manifold is about 100 bucks, assuming that all bolts come out cleanly. The last Ford exhaust manifolds I did were on a truck 351W, and I had to drill and retap 7 of the original 16 manifold bolts (I replaced both sides). That's the only repair I'd guarantee...replacing it. I might be able to weld it for about half that, but the results are not guaranteed, especially on a 10 year old exhaust component. Let me know what you'd like to do!

98 Civic needs oil change and new tires. Shakes like a motherfucker in the 40MPH zone. Warped rotors?Would I purchase everything online or do you have reseller channels of sorts?
10/19/2011 7:41:27 PM
As far as new tires, I'm not equipped to do tires...but I do have a few recommendations. Interestingly enough, you may be able to get the best bang for your buck by checking out one of the locally owned tire shops, as opposed to a chain like Sears, Merchants, or NTB. I recommend getting prices from such establishments as Gower's Brake & Alignment or Murray's New and Used Tires, both of which are on South Saunders Street. Everybody does oil changes for cheap, and I definitely recommend staying away from places like Jiffy Lube. I can and will change your oil, but chances are I can't compete pricewise with the cheapest ones out there. I can, however, guarantee that I'll use quality oil and a good quality filter.Shaking like a motherfucker in a certain speed range regardless of whether or not you are on the brakes is primarily indicative of tire imbalance and, to a lesser degree, possible alignment or shock/strut issues. I'd bet tires will help the condition out considerably. You'll only feel warped rotors when your foot's on the brakes.I've worked on lots of Hondas; in fact, next to Toyota, they're my favorite car to work on.

11/1/2011 1:22:43 AM
Hahaha...well, I do have an R200 differential laying around with 3.90 gears. The halfshafts are wrong, though, as they are of the tripod joint design and are the wrong length.I do, however, have an exhaust header for all square port L-series engines in 70-78 Z cars. I don't, however, have the 2-1 collector for it, so one would need to be sourced or fabbed for it. I used to do all my own exhaust fab, but I don't have the materials or tools anymore to do it.Hmmm...maybe I still have the electronic ignition distributor for one of these engines. I'd have to go looking. But anyway, replied to PM! Back in bidness for the week and next weekend, so let me know what you got! Thanks!
