well I'm basically saying the same thing that multiple basketball analysts/reporters have been saying for the last couple of weeks. You act like I'm just pulling pros/cons for Lebron to go to Miami, Cleveland, New York, Chicago out of my assbut I guess no one except for the people in this thread know anything about the NBA or what Lebron will/should do
7/7/2010 9:20:25 PM
Not even everyone in this threadJust me, TreeTwista, NYM, Ribs and rallydurham, and to a lesser extent dweedle and jbrick
7/7/2010 9:23:13 PM
Lesser extent my ass...I've continuously owned people over the years in NBA threads. I should also get extra credit for probably being the only person in South Carolina that gets the NBA package on Directv...and that includes sports bars. But I'll take what I can get from Slave.

you guys are ridiculous, dont forget to give a courtesy reach-around while youre at it

7/7/2010 10:29:03 PM
i can beat everyone in this thread in basketball, however
7/7/2010 11:36:06 PM
My interest in the NBA died when Spud Webb retired. I'll be back if Lebron goes to the Knicks.
7/7/2010 11:43:46 PM
If he does in fact go to Miami, no matter what happens, whether they win multiple titles or none at allHe will always be Arod, and Wade will always be Jeter.
7/8/2010 9:40:54 AM
yepout of all the places for him to go, I think Miami would be the worst. It will further drive in my desire to stop watching the NBA altogether. Lebron leaving Cleveland would make me want to stop watching the NBA enough as it is, but then add on the fact that hes going to play with two other superstars, and it almost feels like watching WWE. Theres no point in watching the NBA regular season or first few rounds of the playoffs anymore - you can turn the tv on in May and watch the Heat play the Lakers for the next 5 years
7/8/2010 9:54:07 AM
I'm not ready to hand them the East crown yet. They still don't have a banger to stop Howard, and Boston, though borderline geriatric, will always be tough in the playoffs. The Heat's saving grace might be veterans who get buyouts from their current teams and sign for the league minium right before the March 1st deadline, aka "ring chasers"
7/8/2010 9:57:07 AM
7/8/2010 9:57:46 AM
Ray Allen back to the Celtics for 2/20Seems fair, if a little more than I think he's worth at this stage
7/8/2010 10:25:00 AM
They would have no chance without him so it makes sense to overpay in that situation I guess.Any chance Lebron signs a deal longer than the anticipated 3 years?
7/8/2010 10:35:35 AM
Unless he thinks he'll be significantly less valuable at 28, it makes sense for him to be a free agent again in 3 yearsHe can still get a max deal at 28...Joe Johnson did, and he's much, much worse.
7/8/2010 10:38:26 AM
http://chicago.sbnation.com/2010/7/7/1557813/lebrons-tax-bills-are-going-toThis c/o the same guy that told me a co-worker's brother who is a high end real estate agent in Chicago closed on a house with Lebron. Chicago residents love generating rumors
7/8/2010 10:39:49 AM
I am not "excited" about the possibility of 3 superstars running the table and diminishing the competition of the league, but it does interest me in how this could effect the NBA free agency and player philosophy. I have always wondered why more players did not try this approach and try building an all-star squad and go for the title instead of the prestige and money. Whats a few extra million to having the legitimacy of a championship ring(s). III
7/8/2010 11:18:53 AM
Having stars clustered on a small amount of teams means there will be a lot more shitty games that no one wants to watch. It will be like baseball where there's 5-6 teams people care about.Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston, Dallas, and Orlando will comprise 3/4th's of the nationally televised games
7/8/2010 11:26:58 AM
^Well being that I'm a Heat fan now, I'll only be watching their games. So I'm not really worried about it.[Edited on July 8, 2010 at 11:32 AM. Reason : f]

I have special insider info on lebron. He's going back to college to play for Sid bc he heard about our recruiting class.
7/8/2010 11:35:03 AM
thank you Hoops
7/8/2010 11:37:14 AM
He's leaving Cleveland to go play for the DC United. At least, that's what I'd like to see happen.I'm having a hard time hating Lebron for the special tonight. The sports media has been building up this free agency decision for TWO YEARS now. If it just came out in the middle of the night it wouldn't seem like it's giving them the payoff they so desperately want. Instead I'd guess ESPN actually came up with the idea for this a long time ago and pitched it to him for whenever he was ready to make up his mind. Soccer fans should just be lucky he didn't decide to do his announcement during a World Cup match. They spend an hour stroking Lebron's ego (and pay whatever FCC fine that entails) and then he gives the media the happy ending they've been wanting for years.
7/8/2010 11:56:05 AM
ESPN creates news and then covers it. What else is new.If not for 30 for 30, I'd be so over ESPN.
7/8/2010 11:58:42 AM
heard on the radio this morning that he might be headed to newyork according to leak by TMZ
7/8/2010 11:59:51 AM
To be honest I understand the logic behind him having a tv special to announce he is coming back to Cleveland rather than to make a spectacle of his saying fuck you guys I'm outta here. However, on the other side if he does all this hype and talk about a special and I sit down to watch it only to at the end hear him say I am resigning with Cleveland to me that will be one of those this was the biggest waste of time ever what a douchebag. To me if he was gonna resign with Cleveland he should have just announced it as soon as he knew and went about the business of trying to get a better team around him.
7/8/2010 12:14:14 PM
I'm starting to think all discussion of the special tonight should be moved to the WWE thread. It really is beginning to sound like a WWE storyline.
7/8/2010 12:15:57 PM
Go ahead and crown their asses for years to comeTeams full of superstars always win titles]
7/8/2010 12:21:22 PM
I enjoyed Simmons' take on everything. I'm really hoping for a "fuck it, I'm going to New York" announcement
7/8/2010 12:29:36 PM
^^ Yeah, beacause those guys were all in their primes like Bosh, Lebron and Wade...
7/8/2010 12:35:54 PM
If Lebron stays in Cleveland, does that make LAL & OKC the biggest free agent winners by seeing the West take such a talent hit?
7/8/2010 12:44:25 PM
http://www.usmagazine.com/moviestvmusic/news/lebron-james-plans-weekend-party-in-south-beach-201087this is getting hilarious
7/8/2010 12:59:09 PM
Kobe and Shaq were pretty much in their primeBut the point is that putting a team of superstars together doesn't equal automatic championships like everyone seems to thinkAlthough you probably did think Detroit would win that series, although you probably thought Rip Hamilton would average 50 ppg]
7/8/2010 1:07:10 PM
I stand by my prediction. Which ever team offers LeBron a 1986 Chrysler LeBaron convertible with wood panels, and the tagging changed to "LeBron" he will sign with said team. If no team does, it's up in the air.

Chris Paul will join them in 2012 in Miami if he chooses the Heat.
7/8/2010 4:39:24 PM
Thank you for that update from this morning's Bill Simmons column that is actually from two years ago, JT3
7/8/2010 4:42:01 PM
If Lebron goes to the Heat and they get Paul next year...the other 11 players on the roster are gonna have to get like $300k / year to make their salary cap work
