You know what really grinds my gears? Those people who realize they are in the wrong lane, so they turn on their turn signal and just sit there holding up traffic in a lane that would otherwise be moving. Just go a block up and turn around. There is really no reason to hold up 20 cars behind you just because you want to be in the turn lane and you missed your chance to get in line.

haha this reminds me of when I was in high school, my friend and I used to stare at people in the car next to us at a red light just to see if they would notice. Nothing menacing, just a blank stare. Most people wouldn't notice or would just glance over and then keep looking ahead. One time an old lady started blowing us kisses

But then one day we did it to this middle-aged woman that FLIPPED. THE FUCK. OUT. The start screaming at us, demanding we roll down our windows, grabbing onto her steering wheel while lunging her body back and forth. It was freakiest thing I had seen in a long while Then when the light turned green she started raging, getting in front of us and then slamming on her brakes We eventually lost her but to this day I've wondered what her defect was.

I didn't observe that much in the Northeast when I lived up there and all I can think is that it's a learned response b/c up there they don't give a fuck and will never let you over. Down here people are too nice about it and the idiots that always do this know they can get away with it.

I was driving on I-40 West this morning and had just gotten onto the highway from the Gorman Street entrance. I merged into the right lane (from the entrance ramp) using my turn signal. After a brief moment I did the same into the center lane (b/c traffic in the right lane was starting to slow down b/c of the back up to exit 293). At the same time a Honda Accord slightly behind me (but traveling faster than me) decided she wanted to be in the center lane as well. Naturally this woman was NOT using her turn signal (and also ignoring right of way). I had to hang in limbo for a few seconds, straddling both lanes while blaring the horn and avoiding the heavyweight Accord. My car may be small but it's bright red and thus quite visible.

She waved back in a "i'm sorry" way afterwards. What an idiot. Turn signals people, USE THEM.

I feel like we need to launch a campaign telling people to use their turn signals.

I hate it when a person two lanes over merges into the lane between us with no turn signal. I almost hit a guy Tuesday who did this. I'm in the far left lane on I-40 East. I turn my signal on and start to move one lane to the right. Guy two lanes over to the right, talking on his cell, decides to get in the same lane. He isn't paying attention to my turn signal and he starts to come into the lane when I already have 1/4 of my car in it. At least one of us was paying attention. To make matters worse, he was 2/3 of a car length behind me. The person to the rear is supposed to yield right of way because the person in front in the case of two people trying to merge into the same lane.

This happens all the time for those of us who travel I-40 daily. Crapital Blvd is terrible for this too. You really should be using your turn signal unless there is nobody around you.

You should campaign more towards banning cellphones while driving. People seem to never use signals in the most appropriate situations whether or not they are distracted or actually paying attention to driving.

I'd admit I don't use signals all the time, but in your situation, I would have.

I was reminded of this thread on multiple occasions earlier this week. Now I see it bumped:

We brought up people that need to swing wide in their compact cars to make a turn off a road, now I'll bring up people that swing wide pulling onto the road. So they're pulling out of a gas station onto Western (for example) and feel the need to swing 3 feet into the far lane when pulling out.

If they were trying to pull out into the far lane that's one thing, but they're trying to pull out into the right lane. No need to swing wide there pal.

At Tyron and Avent Ferry yesterday, this minivan 'pulled off' Tryon onto Avent Ferry (still parallel to Tryon) and stopped, taking up both the left and right turn lanes on Avent Ferry. I wanted to turn right (even had the green right arrow) but couldn't because this chode couldn't be bothered to use one of the several parking lots/side streets to turnaround.

Dear a-hole in white trailblazer on 440 inner beltline at 6:30am this morning:

it was COMPLETELY unnecessary for you to speed up when i was trying to get onto 440 this morning at melbourne ave. maybe you weren't paying much attention to what was in your rear view mirror or you're just a straight up dick, but there was a car up your ass behind you so i couldn't get onto the highway behind you. i had PLENTY of room to get onto the highway in front of you without you having to slam on your breaks. i am a polite driver like that. but for you to INCREASE your speed because for whatever reason you didn't want me in front of you, causing me to have to SLAM on my breaks and narrowly avoid going completely off the road is ridiculous and unsafe.

so there i am - sitting at the end of the on-ramp for 440 at 0 mph because you decide that you rather be the biggest dick in the world than let me onto the highway this morning.

don't worry - i slammed on my gas (causing me to lose god knows how many gallons of gas in the process) to try to catch up with you so i can get your license plate number. but you freaked and jumped off at the western blvd exit at the last minute.

let's both hope for the sake of my sanity, we never cross paths again.

BTY. For some reason 440 traffic always seems to slow to a crawl headed north about a mile south of the Melborne merging ramp. It's not because people are merging off Jones Franklin, it slows down even when no one is merging. I have to assume that it's the moderate hill and people don't give it extra gas to compensate.

I only know 1-2 of the service techs but if that asshole cut you off you should have called the number on the back of the van (that How's my driving" stuff). From time to time I hear the service managers bitching about their drivers getting reported for crappy driving. Trust me, if they do it more than 1-2 times they do get in trouble.

Both my wife and I have been rear-ended in the last 6 months by 18-21 year old girls talking on phones.

Mine was caused by a senior citizen who stopped traffic in front of me because he stopped for a stopped *city* bus with no one getting off of it and no one crossing in front of him. Of course he suddenly picked up the pace once he saw people getting hit behind him.

Today I was second in line on a street at a stoplight to go down an exit ramp onto a highway. The lane I was in was a combined straight/exit lane. The light turns green. The pickup in front of me has no turn signal on and begins going straight through the intersection. I proceed to the intersection and turn to go down the exit ramp. Before I know it, said pickup is inches from my fender, having turned back around through the intersection to go down the ramp. Truck was two "Hispanic Americans" with Kansas plates. No other markings. Didn't hit me but was damn close.

So tired of this crap.

I threw an apple core out of my truck window a couple weeks ago and had some severe-lookin bitch gun it to get around to my left...she was yelling and pointing up a storm mad as hell until I picked up the other apple I was about to eat and showed it to her with a gesture as if to say "you want it that bad?" She calmed immediatetely, waved, dropped back and got off at the next exit

Of course both turn lanes are full so he decides to sit there and wait in the straight lane waiting to be able to turn. Fucking idiot blocked traffic for almost a whole light cycle. Had a drive with NY tags srsly going 10mph on a very long exit that allowed for a steady decrease from 65 to the new street's speed of 55. I got so pissed impatient that as soon as there was room I merged all the way to the left lane leaving them in the dust.


And let me say every time someone does something stupid and I check the tags is it almost ALWAYS a gd Virginia driver. FUCKING HATE THEM BASTAGES.

I don't get road rage, but two things that annoy me is when you are trying to accelerate up a ramp to get on the intersate and when you are at the top the person ahead of you is still going 45 to 55 miles per hour, so you merge onto the interstate and then quickly move over another lane only to have them do the same thing and continue to drive under 65 miles per hour. The whole point of teh acceleration ramp is to get up to speed by the time you are at the end of it.

I also don't like slow drivers in the left lane and fast drives in the right lane. You're supposed to pass to the left. It's funny to watch people in the left lane have 5 cars ride up behind them, pass them to the right, and then almost cut them off as they move back into the left lane. This often results in the slow driver staying in the left lane.
