looks like i'm in the minority here, but i have tried to get into joanna newsom and just can't. and pantha du prince is pretty groovy.[Edited on February 19, 2010 at 6:22 PM. Reason : -]

Only on the first side of this JN and there's already a ton of awesome percussion stuff and a Billy Joel reference.
2/19/2010 7:45:10 PM
Yeah, the Joanna Newsom is greatI suggest you become a fan immediately
2/19/2010 8:28:06 PM
i got pretty restless on the third disc and switched it to morning benders :\i figure this will take a few active listens to click for me
2/19/2010 9:58:01 PM
but the end of the sixth side is soooooooo awesomeanalog delays and drums and shitwith that said, the first and third sides are my favorite ]
2/19/2010 10:01:12 PM

my first impression is that the first and third discs are great, second is just goodbut this record is pretty dense so i'm sure i'll change my mind as i listen more
2/20/2010 1:10:15 PM
in other news, this Voice of the Seven Thunders self-titled has some good jams on it
2/20/2010 1:12:00 PM
Joanna Newsom sounds like a fucking 4 year old with autism when she sings.
2/20/2010 3:13:56 PM
i also dig the new BSS, will have to checkout the joanna newsom later
2/20/2010 5:56:36 PM
2/20/2010 5:59:39 PM
Robert Smith did a song for ALice and Wonderland and it is terrible if you ask me
2/20/2010 6:02:24 PM
not really new music but its relatedi would buy this girls record if she made one, she needs to get off of youtube and start making ithttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkMNTdGToJ0
2/20/2010 7:12:30 PM
^ that's okaybut it works much better as an inspiration for me to mashup my girls and just like honey
2/20/2010 8:13:31 PM
Any one else into the new Gil Scott-Heron??? It kinda rules. He and Joanna Newsom are blurring the lines between music and poetry.
2/20/2010 9:09:18 PM
For the love of God, where can I find Ryan Gustafson's album from last year? I've looked at Schoolkids, Offbeat and Bull City ... nothing.I know I can order it from CDbaby or iTunes (yuck) or pick it up at a show; but where can I grab it locally?
2/20/2010 9:27:53 PM
Best bet would be CD Alley, because Drughorse is a CH thing and I've definitely heard it played on the stereo there while I've been shopping. Also, got a sneak at Gayngs tonight...AWESOME. ]
2/21/2010 5:09:50 AM
could someone please post the beach house album?? being hearing good things.....
2/21/2010 11:58:17 AM
^^^get your local store to order it for you.[Edited on February 21, 2010 at 1:45 PM. Reason : or call them. they may have a shipment coming in.]
2/21/2010 1:45:02 PM
the JoNew is definitely growing on me. the last track, "Does Not Suffice", reminds me of how Van Morrison's "Slim Slow Slider" ends.

Don't know if it's been posted yet, but The Appleseed Cast is reportedly putting out another album in late 2010 according to their new label, Graveface.http://www.graveface.com/news.htmlFrom the 11/23/09 blog entry:

surfer blood sold out charlotte. good show overall - they still need a bit of polishing.
2/23/2010 12:32:28 AM
Where in Charlotte? Amo's Southend? That venue is OK, but the few times I've been there, the staff have been unbelievably dickish. But, that seemed to be more a trend of Charlotte...
2/23/2010 12:34:25 AM
^^^ good deal.
2/23/2010 8:02:06 AM
^^snug harbor. MUCH smaller than amos southend. about the size of local 506, if not smaller.
2/23/2010 4:41:56 PM
I'm getting pretty excited about the new Caribou. "Odessa" is awesome.
2/23/2010 6:48:57 PM
I love the new joanna newsom, but it really should've been released as one proper album with a "b-sides" album released later in the year. I don't agree with the reviews that say there aren't filler songs. In my opinion, a good deal of CD/ LP 2 is filler. With that said, my favorite tracks are Baby Birch, Easy, Does Not Suffice, Ribbon Bows, and In California.
2/24/2010 10:33:18 PM
I agree that the second disc is the weakest of the three, but I think it serves its purpose, and there are moments on the second disc I wouldn't want to be without. With that said, I think arrangements like this

2/25/2010 3:28:01 PM
I am sure the Newsom album will be appreciated by elfin creatures everywhere.
2/25/2010 6:29:24 PM
eh, her voice and style isn't anything like her first album anymore so that joke doesn't make as much sense.also, thread needs more pics
2/25/2010 6:45:31 PM
she's definitely hawt, for sureand, if her voice is different than it was on Ys, then i'll have to check it out
2/25/2010 7:07:18 PM
^it's not.
2/25/2010 9:32:33 PM
the timbre's not different, but her delivery isalso, the arrangements on Ys make it sound a little more otherworldly than it really isthe arrangements on this record frame it in a less outlandish laura nyro/joni mitchell light ]
2/25/2010 9:48:45 PM

the next few months (March-May) are filled with a plethora of albums I am excited for. Should be great. Also, anyone in here listen to the s/t Fang Island album I've heard a lot of buzz about on several sites this past week? I'm interested in checking it out and I ask here because the "recommended if you like" section of these reviews have made it look like something you guys would be into. IE vampire weekend, animal collective, portugal the man etc.a couple links to mp3 streams from the album (haven't even listened to them myself yet tho):"Daisy"http://t.ymlp135.com/mwyagaebyanaumbmaxauhqe/click.php"Life Coach"http://t.ymlp135.com/mqsalaebyaiaumbmaaauhqe/click.php

holy shitthat sounds like andrew w.k. and flogging molly cover songs from the lion king
3/1/2010 11:13:02 AM
LOL As I said, I hadn't listened to it at all myself, so I apologize if it is crappy. Also, I saw Andrew W.K. mentioned in one review briefly and thought that was kind of odd given the other bands people were referencing but didn't know what to think of that hah. [Edited on March 1, 2010 at 11:17 AM. Reason : ]
3/1/2010 11:15:06 AM
it's not bad (at least "daisy" isn't), just kind of wackythere are huge anthemic guitar lines that are very reminiscent of the stuff on the wolf ]
3/1/2010 1:00:15 PM
Somebody just gave me this album, turning on by cloud nothings, came out a few days ago I think. hxxp://www.mediafire.com/?2efottoqed2I'm interested in how fang island are live....although, the same day woods, real estate, and netherfriends are playing in Chicago.
