1/7/2010 4:32:59 PM
I just got the call for a 2-hour delay at work tomorrow. w00t! Sleeping in, bitches.
1/7/2010 10:42:20 PM
Ain't shit gonna happen.Fucking Wake County Schools are opening on a 2 hour delay. What a bunch of fucking idiots. It's not gonna snow you morons.
1/7/2010 10:44:01 PM
it's 42 degrees outside right now. it's not even cold enough to snow. wtf.
1/7/2010 10:48:28 PM
the latest discussion says that the models missed the warm air advection by a ton. as a result, the onset could be rain and they are cutting down on precip amounts...It is really bad luck that we have this really long arctic air cold streak and then when the stuff gets here, we get little amounts.
1/7/2010 10:55:46 PM
bad luck? no its called meteorologists that don't know their ass from a hole in the ground.
1/7/2010 11:08:54 PM
clearly it's the meteorologists' fault.clearly.
1/8/2010 12:21:12 AM
^well, I'm normally a stout defender of meteorologists but they fucking blew this one.pouring ass rain outside right now at 2 AM. 38 degrees. not going to be much time for snow.NWS forecast still cheerfully proclaims: "Cold with lows in upper 20s! Chance of snow!"come onalso LOL that if you look at WRAL its radar thingie is showing snow all across the Triangle.snow isn't liquid water that makes a sploosh sound when it hits my deck. just epic fail here.further, NWS claims the high today is 32. not possible since it was 41 at midnight.[Edited on January 8, 2010 at 2:10 AM. I do like how it took snow to finally get us above freezing. Lawlz
1/8/2010 3:09:37 AM
So I woke up expecting to see a winter wonderland. Instead I heard the sound of dripping water and immediately thought a pipe had burst from the cold so I went to head outside to look in the basement and saw that it was raining. Had a big WTF moment and now I cant get back to sleep.
1/8/2010 3:49:48 AM
1/8/2010 3:07:37 PM
If you go back and look at every bit of data that was available at the time the decisions needed to be made, this was a snow event. Nothing picked up or hinted that the warm air advection would be strong enough to make it that far inland.Sure, the forecast was a bust. But not because meteorologists are retards. The general public has no idea the difficulty that is involved in this science and the most difficult winter weather forecasts are in this region, based on geographic characteristics.
1/8/2010 4:31:54 PM
science is either right or wrong. obviously we still don't understand meteorology as a science because if we understood exactly how everything worked, then we would know B happens if A happens first.anyone can see there is still a lot of stuff unknown about exactly how the weather works[Edited on January 8, 2010 at 4:36 PM. 1/26/2010 9:21:39 AM
WRAL is calling for snow, therefore we will see rain.
1/26/2010 11:36:38 AM
Yeah, but the low is 16. Even WRAL isn't that bad at their predictions.
1/26/2010 11:38:21 AM
1/26/2010 11:40:55 AM
I don't really want to be stuck home on my Saturday night.
1/26/2010 11:43:08 AM
They are calling for a "major winter storm" here in parts of East Tennessee and SW Virginia. It is still hard to call the exact path of this low just yet.
1/26/2010 12:20:20 PM
They're calling for 1-2 feet of snow around Snowshoe, WV on Friday - Saturday. Which is good, b/c that's where I'll be
1/26/2010 1:13:39 PM
Storm is tracking a bit further south now. Who knows if we even get any up there at this point. It's far more likely we do than not, but there is still a chance it misses altogether and is just a rain/ice event farther south. With how cold it will be they are saying that even if it's .5" of precip that'll translate possibly to over 10" of snow.(again not an expert -- just reporting what I've read)http://forums.accuweather.com/index.php?showtopic=16690[Edited on January 26, 2010 at 1:46 PM. Reason : thats the thread I'm following if anyone is interested]

HPC says the Euro has perhaps trended things a bit too far south but it still looks good for something wintry for a good portion of NC. Can't hang your hat on any single model run verbatim. I still think RDU is in a decent position for this event. This may be the best shot so far at seeing anything. I know it is the SE and things go wrong all too often but the chance for saturday is far from zero right now.

jan 2009?
1/26/2010 3:34:51 PM
It's posted and updated today. I think it's just a typo. I still put 2009 on everything too.
1/26/2010 3:37:01 PM
It is a typo on his part.
1/26/2010 4:38:51 PM
NWS Raleigh disco is definitely encouraging for snow lovers this far out. Still looking at a multitude of p-types but it wouldn't be NC otherwise.
1/26/2010 4:39:50 PM
Blah.. I'm really hoping the models start back north a bit... I'd be so pissed if Raleigh/Durham got dumped on and we got very little or nothing at Snowshoe.
1/26/2010 4:44:05 PM
dump, dump, dump, dump!!!snoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow
1/26/2010 5:42:24 PM
well, my office is ordering more fuel for the generator (due to the nature of our business we absolutely have to stay up and running 24/7) which tells me they're actually expecting something here to knock out power. i heard her say an inch of ice... as soon as we get an official email from the meteorology guy i'll post it.
1/27/2010 9:10:01 AM
anyone have updated models?
1/27/2010 9:35:50 AM
If you go to the Accuweather forums posted up there^^ they have a lot of models. Showing anywhere between 12-18" for the triangle region.
1/27/2010 10:12:19 AM
Well, that is assuming all snow which is simply put, not happening. Local guys are still hedging and the latest model is showing it trending a bit North... so we'll see. My guess is that we'll see a significant ice storm here followed by SOME snow...
1/27/2010 10:30:05 AM
^ Definitely. I don't think we'll get the upward trend. But I think it'll be more than the 1-2 inches a lot of locals are forecasting. I'm interested in seeing how the next system (Tuesdayish) will play out. Depending on how this weekend plays out, that could really add some wintry precip to the forecast.
1/27/2010 10:33:54 AM
Here is my current thinking:
1/27/2010 10:34:51 AM
damn! some promising models!! please for this storm to keep tracking south
1/27/2010 10:55:35 AM
^^^Is another system coming through Tuesday with a chance for frozen precip?
1/27/2010 11:00:40 AM
Right now we'll be in the upper-30's for highs. So, unless this system keeps the temps down, it'll be rain. But there's speculation that if we get a good showing of snow/ice this weekend, and the system keeps the temperatures down, then that rain may end up being snow on top of whatever sticks this weekend.
1/27/2010 11:05:34 AM
I read that some areas could be looking at over an inch of ice accumulation I don't mind the snow, but I hope we don't get any ice....too many trees around the house and an inch of ice would snap em like twigs
1/27/2010 11:07:26 AM
I'm just hoping we won't be getting the Raleigh Special again this go 'round.
1/27/2010 11:08:36 AM
^^^Wait, are you talking about Greensboro? B/c if so I don't care
1/27/2010 11:55:50 AM
Not looking good for us I mean we'll get some snow, but not what we're looking for.(I'm not talking about NC btw for anyone who is wondering)
1/27/2010 12:05:20 PM
1/27/2010 12:05:42 PM
That was for Tuesday's system, not for the one this weekend.[Edited on January 27, 2010 at 12:59 PM. Reason : and ^TKE I'm talking about the Triangle... not Greensboro.]
