well fuck...can't say i was expecting that to actually happen]
12/13/2009 10:00:44 PM
so can i ask some questions that are obvious spoilers, or should i wait until tomorrow when others can watch the episode?
12/13/2009 10:01:14 PM
As with most TV related forums, once the show airs, anything is free game. The ones who haven't seen it should know not to click...But, DAMN! That's craaaazyNow, for Californication]
12/13/2009 10:06:26 PM
1) Every other kill that Dexter has made, the victim was strapped down by the feet, waist, chest, and forehead. Trinity's the only victim I can recall that wasn't bound by the forehead. Significant?2) Every other kill involved him stabbing the victim in the chest (IIRC) but Trinity was stabbed in the chest with his own hammer. Significant?3) Also, why didn't Trinity mention at some point that he'd killed Rita? Did he just assume Dexter knew already? Or did he know that Dexter didn't know? That part has me puzzled.]
12/13/2009 10:08:15 PM
3) that made it all the better when you think about how Trinity was talking to Dexter. He didn't need to rub in the " I just killed your wife".
12/13/2009 10:11:51 PM
i'm about to rewatch the last few scenes now
12/13/2009 10:12:30 PM
^ i think he knew that dexter didnt know.he usually bounded victims by the forehead but yea...didnt do it this time. weird.he has killed with things other than a knife though. hes used a drill, a saw, and now a hammer
12/13/2009 10:13:25 PM
^see i don't remember anything other than a knife. i really wish i'd rewatched the entire series before this season started, just to refresh my memory.
12/13/2009 10:14:22 PM
He didn't restrain his head so that he could see the train.
12/13/2009 10:24:14 PM
i am so stoked for next season, but at the same time, i'm so sad that they killed off Rita
12/13/2009 10:35:55 PM
it's so sad! just as he was thinking of her and thought things would get better....Ok and how will they explain the trinity killer killing rita? I don't think she really fit the age type. And where will the kids go? No way he can take care of them all... think they'll get pawned off to the grandparents?
12/13/2009 10:58:42 PM
wow.
12/13/2009 11:04:49 PM
Me last week:
12/14/2009 1:38:14 AM
So once they recognized that Trinity was Aurthur, why the fuck didn't anyone remember him talking to dexter in the police station? Batista saw him for sure, but it seems like someone would make the connection. Also, Trinity killing Dexter's wife is sure to raise some giant fucking questions next season. I knew there was going to be a big "oh shit!" moment, but I was hoping that Dex was going to tell Deb about himself, rather than Rita dying. RIP Rita, I actually liked you.[Edited on December 14, 2009 at 2:44 AM. Reason : I'd like to add, HOLY FUCK! This show is intense! ]
12/14/2009 2:36:34 AM
Yea Rita, those thoughts of motorboating you will surely be missed
12/14/2009 4:24:27 AM
They focused in on Batista seeing Dexter and Trinity. I'm sure its going to be brought up next season. Along with the wtf as to why he would kill her. There have been some pretty good cliffhangers lately.Rescue Me, Sons of Anarchy and now this, I'm enjoying it.
12/14/2009 7:37:41 AM
I wonder if Dex will have to find a way to "complete the cycle" for Trinity so that it casts suspicion off of him...hmmm..well we'll see in September!HOLY SHIT!
12/14/2009 8:53:59 AM
^ wow I didn't think about that. good call.I think we are all in agreement that this was a fantastic season. I really think John Lithgow needs to win some kind of award for his work as Trinity. What an creepy feeling I got watching him over the last few months. Fantastic!
12/14/2009 9:08:58 AM
i don't see dexter completing the cycle for a few reasons.1. he doesn't have vera's ashes2. trinity's kills aren't neat and virtually evidence free like dexter's3. finding people that fit his code that also fit arthurs requirement who live in miami seems like a stretch.4. as far as the police know, trinity is on the run, i don't think an incomplete cycle would raise any questions.i don't think rita fit trinity's pattern either. the mother of two was for the suicide, not the bath tub, right?
12/14/2009 9:50:18 AM
for those who haven't yet seen it, this is the entire Dexter/Trinity interview. (they showed a few minutes of it last night, but this is the full 11-minute conversation).]
12/14/2009 12:27:43 PM
great article!http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/b157877_was_it_all_dream_john_lithgow_julie.html

I don't know if anyone reads the books but...In the last book, Dexter in the Dark, a main theme of the book is that Cody and Astor have "Dark Passengers" from the scarring they received when Paul and Rita were married. Dexter takes on the mentor role, like Harry did for Dexter, as a way for the kids to control their demons, and at the same time as a way for Dexter to bond with the kids as a father. So if that's any indication then next season I guess that they'd fast forward like 6 years, get new actors for Astor, Cody, and Harrison, and have the main theme be Dexter teaching Harrison (maybe Astor and Cody too) "the code," while also learning how to be a single father.
12/14/2009 2:52:03 PM
holy crap, i really didnt think they'd kill of Ritai was thinking maybe trinity would get killed by deb thinking he was walking into dexter's apartment
12/14/2009 4:54:10 PM
I have nothing useful to add, but holy shit Dexter is going to have to explain where he was for X hours before the murder, that should be interesting. ]
12/14/2009 6:02:41 PM
I just watched it.The only thing I can compare it to was Seven, when the box was opened at the end. I never watched that movie again because of the way the ending left you feeling completely hopeless.I understand why they did it, I just wish they hadnt.
12/14/2009 8:14:41 PM
I feel like I've been gutted! I can't believe Rita died! I hated her character, but she was a main character! And the baby sitting in the blood was just too much ....
12/14/2009 11:07:47 PM
i feel so empty. how do you guys think this stacks up against the other seasons?for me season 4 > 1 > 3 > 2, but of course i'm on a season 4 dexter high right now so maybe 4 will switch with 1 later on down the road.
12/14/2009 11:25:28 PM
the season with the black cop following him has to be the worst, season 2
12/14/2009 11:29:05 PM
welll..... i saw itheartbroken. i think i almost cried. that was really upsetting to see rita in the tub of blood like thathowever i am surprised that while dex was smart enough to go to the second kyle butler residence after the first guy was killed, that he didnt think trinity would look for him again in the phone book and go to debs house (which he did) and then his house (which, clearly lead to ritas demise)and there are a lot of questions to be answered in next season.. not sure if anyone read the comments in the eonline article posted above, but dex is certainly going to need an alibi!im looking forward to the previews of season 6. the writers kind of led on in the article that they haven't decided where to go with season 6 yet so thats kind of cool that they dont have a cemented plan. hopefully the show doesn't turn ridiculous and jump the shark. going to be tricky with 3 kids...
12/15/2009 12:02:36 AM
let's hypothesize about season 5 first, then we can move on to season 6
12/15/2009 12:07:52 AM
haha oops
12/15/2009 12:15:33 AM
12/15/2009 12:23:01 AM
^good points on the quinn stuff. hopefully quinn won't turn into doakes 2.0. i liked doakes a lot before he found dexter's secret.
12/15/2009 12:54:16 AM

I usually love that Dexter is apparently some kind of master ninja (who never sleeps), but sometimes it can get annoying.... like: 1) when he appears out of nowhere on a deserted highway outside of Miami holding Trinity's oil cap. I guess we are to assume that he got to the repair shop first, based on the receipt, and somehow stole or bribed the oil cap off the mustang, then followed Trinity out there with no lights on and stopped his car and got out before Arthur noticed. (we're not supposed to believe Dexter was in the car, right?)2) his disappearing act out of the Mitchell's house into their garage when the SWAT team showed up, without the police seeing him, even though they were already on the property, or the family making some noise about Kyle Butler, who was just here and sprinted out that way towards the garage.
12/15/2009 1:40:22 AM
^1) I thought it was pretty obvious that while trinity was killing Rita, Dexter went to the shop, took off the oil cap, and hid in the trunk.

just finished this episodedamn
12/15/2009 8:47:19 AM
Dexter's never really limited himself to just that knife. He enjoys the variety, but I do speculate that the knife is his fav. Several times I've seem him slit some throats with that nasty little saw he has, and I think he's even used a butcher's cleaver once or twice.I could definitely see Quinn going Doakes on Dex, but I'll never think he's as badass as Doakes was (I always liked Doakes). I don't think that there will be a huge issue with Dex trying to dodge the authorities...things like that seem to gloss over easily for him in the past. I still think that Dex might have to track down a bad mommy and a bad older guy and try to complete Trinity's cycle in order to completely alleviate suspicion on himself...Either way it should make for an awesome Season 5!
12/15/2009 8:48:15 AM
Dexter could say he was out on his boat when Rita was being killed. However, if eventually he is questioned about why trinity came to the office to see him, or why his family knows him, he could say that he was tracking down who shot his sister, but had no idea the guy was trinity.
12/15/2009 9:07:33 AM
^they had already solved the whole "Who shot Deb/Lundy" mystery remember? he can't use that alibi.Dexter has all of Trinity's money. that's gonna be one hefty payoff to Quinn to keep his mouth shut if it comes down to it.
12/15/2009 9:12:54 AM
Dexter could make Arthur part of "Trinity's" kill cycle now to really throw off Miami Metro.
12/15/2009 9:25:03 AM
there's no way to figure out where they are going with this. The writers have created a difficult situation for dexter to maintain his clean profile and avoid the shitstorm.
12/15/2009 9:34:18 AM
I was really shocked by Rita's death. I have no idea what's going to happen at the beginning of next season. I see the conflict between Dexter and Quinn continuing. Deb finally figured out the deal with Dexter being the brother of Brian, but it's hard to say what else will come of that.
12/15/2009 10:15:23 AM
^^^ except arthur is in trashbags in the ocean.do you think trinity was able to save any of vera's ashes from when the urn got busted? if he did, then he would've left his dna which would eliminate dexter as a suspect.[Edited on December 15, 2009 at 10:16 AM. Reason : ]
12/15/2009 10:15:46 AM
^ Trinity had already dumped the remaining ashes when he tried to kill himself.
12/15/2009 10:34:39 AM
ah you're right.
12/15/2009 10:39:22 AM
^^^ Ah, must have missed that part.
12/15/2009 10:42:07 AM
i wonder how long showtime will keep season 4 on demand? i kinda want to watch the show from the beginning. i have seasons 1-3 on dvd, but season 4 won't come out until right before season 5 airs.
12/15/2009 10:44:58 AM
Just download it when you want to watch it dude.
