I bet the storm itself won't be that bad. It might be enough to fuck up rush hour traffic though

Nothing counts unless OPM calls for at least a 2-hour delay to opening gov't offices.

Forget that, I'm hoping that the weather introduces a nice few inches of snow on Friday to welcome y'all.

BTW - Welcome to the neighborhood! Arlington is a great place to live.

^^^SO TUFF

Adams Morgan is not exactly a bohemian enclave it used to be either, Dupont is no longer at the front of the gay liberation movement, and there seems to be a new yuppy coffee shop popping up every month by Union Station so whatever Although some stereotypes do hold water

Just bought my first house -- a townhouse in Alexandria off Van Dorn St. The immediate neighborhood isn't that great but it's not too far from Old Town. I will miss living in the district but this apartment blows.

Nice. We drove around some today to familiarize ourselves with the new hood. Didn't make it to Kingstowne yet but I know there's that giant strip mall that looks interesting and of course Top Golf.

We did check out the area north of our place, on Duke St. towards Old town and through the area around the Hoffman AMC, and we were happy with how close all that was. However, our trip also included a stroll through Landmark Mall, which will probably be my last.

yes we're super excited! a little nervous but definitely excited. i'll be pumped once we get the townhouse rented out - we had some potential tenants come by today and they loved the place so we're keeping our fingers crossed this works out.

Moving sucks balls. Just moved out of Arlington back to Raleigh. Glad to be back but that didn't make the move part suck less. Don't let the place fall apart with me gone.

Parking enforcement question:

I'm a DC resident (for now) and I parked on the street Friday evening legally in my own residential zone. There were no "emergency no parking" signs posted anywhere. Saturday morning they relocated (towed) my car two blocks down the street and slapped two tickets on the windshield for parking in an "emergency no parking" zone. $150. I'm guessing they put the signs up Saturday morning and towed my car a few hours (minutes?) later.

I'm going to contest the tickets but I can't prove that the signs weren't there -- can't prove a negative. Did I just get dicked by DC parking enforcement or do I have a chance at fighting this?

been up here for a month now and we're liking it so far (minus the cold weather but we're almost to spring!). i start a new job next week which is exciting - i'm hoping it will help me meet people (right now i work from home full time so it's kind of isolating).

Were these temporary signs or brand new permanent signs?

As for their enforcement, I have been ticketed in the past for parking in an area that was supposedly off limits even though there were no signs. However, I was able to provide photographic evidence that the sign in front and behind my car showed no prohibitions (so yes, you can win appeals against them). Not sure what to do in your situation though.

^ they had to be temporary. I never saw them. There's no signs now and the work is done.

I'm just gonna say they weren't there.

Without actual proof of some kind, you're probably fucked. I've only won one appeal from Parking Enforcement ever, and it was because I had incontrovertible photographic evidence affirming my appeal.

I would at least look to see if there is some sort of notice requirement for the use of the paper signs. You might have a case there, but then again, without some sort of actual documentation of when your car was there, etc, well, good luck...

Maybe DDOTDC has a filing or log of an application for the signs for your block? That's weird that they towed it/moved it. I've never heard of that before in this situation.

Spring is here. That can only mean one thing....

Tourists. Tourists biking around, riding segways, walking, standing in the middle of the goddamn sidewalk looking clueless, crowding every bar and restaurant, with their badass kids in tow.

Next up.... Interns
