its crazy, they were showing the HR Derby from a couple years ago when Hamilton wrecked shop in Old Yankee Stadium on MLBTV and I watched a decent bit of his 1st round where he hit like 28 homers and had the fans chanting his name, this is kinda the opposite although I don't blame him but he might blame himself

I like how in the ESPN story they made it clear that "the fan called for the ball." Like they knew Josh was going to receive some backlash for this.Sucks for the fan and his kid (and rest of family and friends of course). No doubt Josh has to feel pretty bad about it too. Are there any videos of it yet?
7/8/2011 11:43:08 AM
is this your first day on the internet
7/8/2011 11:51:02 AM
i would expect this sort of weak short throw from Nate McLouth, not Josh Hamilton

It almost looks like the ball was tossed to the guy with the glove. He leaned across his son and in front of the guy with the glove to catch it. If it was to the other guy then it wasn't a horrible toss.
7/8/2011 12:18:49 PM
my heart just sank. He should have let the gloved guy who was standing at the ready catch it and that poor man tried to grab his ankle just awful
7/8/2011 12:29:36 PM
you guys don't forget that nelson cruz nearly killed a guy last year with his horrible foul ball hitting skills...

That's crazy. Defintely not Josh's fault. I agree it was going to the other guy and the firefighter guy who went for it probably just got overexcited to grab a ball for his kid. That honestly was one of the saddest videos I've seen in quite some time, not only for the death of the man, but the son will always remember that day and he can horribly be reminded of it at random points of his life as he grows What an awful situation
7/8/2011 3:11:04 PM
i always feel for the family of people that die, and that mans poor son...good heavens. I hope he is surrounded by love and good days for the rest of his life.

josh hamilton - crackhead/murderer(sucks for that guy he killed and his little boy )

^^^ Maybe the dude's kid learned a valuable lesson about doing stupid things. Like leaning too far over a balcony.[Edited on July 8, 2011 at 10:54 PM. Reason : He's just trying to teach society something]

7/9/2011 12:22:44 AM
^let's be fair. it's a reaction. I don't think he was consciously going yup im going to kill myself for this. It's an accident. A terrible accident that was no ones fault. let's hope the kid uses this to shape him positively.
7/9/2011 1:18:47 AM
This is one of those events in time where you can't rationalize how they were allowed to happen after they occur. If the railing in stadiums is that low, shouldn't the outfielders be instructed not to toss balls into the stands?I seriously don't get how this happened. It certainly is not Josh's fault, but the players should not be putting fans in danger by attempting to make tosses like that.
7/9/2011 1:30:20 AM
coffee shoudlt be made hot either.
7/9/2011 6:37:47 AM
did anyone else notice the guy who fell looked like he sat in a puddle first?
7/9/2011 7:18:29 AM
Hamilton's "It's not heaven, it's the bottom of the fifth" line in the Sunday Night Baseball commercial seems like a clear warning sign in hindsight.

7/9/2011 10:57:36 AM
Are you trolling? Wreckless driving in shitty weather is akin to reaching your hand over a railing now? Are you serious? It was a terrible accident.
7/9/2011 10:57:50 AM
no i'm not fucking trolling. just b/c it's an accident doesn't mean that it's no one's fault, that's absurd.
7/9/2011 11:03:33 AM
The whole thing is a bit ironic. The dude was a firefighter. I mean, he rushed into burning buildings for a living. And he died... falling 20 feet trying to catch a baseball.
7/9/2011 1:05:42 PM
Car wrecks are one of the leading causes of injury and accidents in america. If you're killed or injured in a car wreck, it's your fault for being stupid enough to get behind the wheel. (eyeroll)It wasn't really anyone's fault, it was a freak accident. Sheesh.
7/9/2011 1:19:24 PM
im sure his kid really wanted a ball and like any good father the guy wanted that for his son. he saw the opportunity to be a hero to his son, acted on it, and lost his balance and fell. if you don't understand that then eithera) you don't have a sonb) you didn't have a relationship like that with your dadc) you're a morond) all of the above[Edited on July 9, 2011 at 1:30 PM. Reason : thanks]
7/9/2011 1:25:01 PM
D) you're a moron
7/9/2011 1:26:11 PM
Please don't bring in the sentimental "love for his son" into this tragedy. The same scenario could have happened even if he didn't have a son, and he still would have lost his balance.[Edited on July 9, 2011 at 1:52 PM. Reason : ]
