i'm thinking the mandarin will be the big bad in Iron Man 3their main issue with not using him in the first one was wanting to keep it somewhat believable and not have magic come out of nowheresince dude's gonna team up with the fucking god of thunder before IM3 that wall's already been breached so they have no reason not toi mean what else would they do? Stane's son? AIM/MODOK?I know they aren't going to do another random dude in a big robot suit.

Ultimo, son!
5/11/2010 12:12:17 PM
^^Look, I'll say this much, if he doesn't fight Mandarin in Iron Man 3, there's going to be a horde of nerds on Marvel's front porch.
5/11/2010 6:04:48 PM
also if we can get james woods as a tony stark antagonist somehow that'd be swell[Edited on May 11, 2010 at 6:25 PM. Reason : i'm a lazy typer]

Favreau has hinted a few times about being interested in having the Mandarin in the third one. I honestly expected there to be a much greater reference to him in this movie. The premise of the difference between technology and magic could be interesting, but could easily be disastrous if presented unconvincingly.
5/11/2010 6:52:45 PM
what if iron man 3 is civil war stuff?
5/11/2010 7:11:46 PM
They won't do the Civil War in movies, impossible to cover.
5/11/2010 7:13:36 PM
Ok, no one else has brought it up, but I feel it needs to be said. . . Did NO ONE else fucking hate the Hammer guy? I mean, not 'hate' in the way that you are supposed to dislike the bad guy, but 'hate' in the sense that he was every douchebag cliche mixed into one fucking intolerable character. And to top it all off, all the people in power allied right behind him and always took his side over Stark despite the fact that we was trash./rant
5/11/2010 7:16:16 PM
yeah i didn't really care for him either, but then again i didn't really read a lot of iron man so i don't know how accurate the portrayal was. he was more nerdy than diabolical, but i don't know if that was by design or not
5/11/2010 7:27:45 PM
I didn't care for the Hammer guy either; I thought he was supposed to be a little douchey, but it wasn't enjoyable.Oh yeah, the part where the bad guy basically shuts down everything technology-wise reminds me of this:

I think Sam Rockwell did a fantastic job as Hammer...not the appearance I would have expected but I think he got the character right.
5/12/2010 3:58:22 AM
it did kinda annoy me how a physicist haxed hammer's gibson
5/12/2010 7:47:03 AM
Attn Tony Stark.....you were kept alive by a freaking car battery in the first movie....just hook up a few 9Vs and you wont have to die for a few years......ohh wait, you'd rather create a new element in a week and almost risk dying a horrible death....ok, carry on

This movie lacks almost every single element of good drama. That said, I still think it's a fine movie. Just that it's a movie that exists almost entirely and completely on the sheer force of personality of the people that are in it.
5/12/2010 11:22:27 AM
I liked the scene at the Senate where Stark ssh'd into the presentation.I felt the first act of this movie did really well, with the exception of the reintroduction of Roadie Rhodes. To me, the cinematography made it seem like Favreau was deliberately pointing out that there was a new guy in the role. The second act had pacing problems and the third act seemed constipated, but it was worth seeing in theatres. Not on opening weekend, maybe about three months later when it goes to the $1.50. RTs rating of 75% is pretty accurate.

lol, yes.
5/13/2010 12:23:30 PM
Well I think the line worked in the context of the Senate hearing scene.I thought it was a clever way for them to acknowledge the change in actors and move past it.Although I do think of the scene in Vegas Vacation where Clark Griswold says "You kids are growing up so fast it's like I don't even recognize you anymore!"
5/13/2010 12:48:02 PM
yea i thought it was pretty funny
5/13/2010 12:56:04 PM
Why would they feel the need to tell the audience that this is how it is, get used to it. How could you be upset with the upgrade from Howard to Cheadle?
5/13/2010 12:56:27 PM
Cheadle is no where near the upgrade you people were expecting (in this film). His on screen chemistry with RDJ is nowhere near as good as Howard's was.Would i take Don Cheadle in almost any other film over Howard? Yes, most likely. But here, it wasn't an upgrade. They had to have that throw away line because they make almost no attempt to develop any kind of friendship between this new Rhodes and Tony Stark. You, as the viewer, are just supposed to take their word for it that they are friends. Had it been Howard in this movie, the scene at Stark's birthday party would have succeeded in that emotional element it was going for. instead, it felt empty.[Edited on May 13, 2010 at 1:26 PM. The movie was fun, but just got too ridiculous at times to distract from the story or action. The stupid "Our powers combined!" crap at the end was They definitely didn't have enough of Ivan. When can we start spoilers?
5/13/2010 2:15:23 PM
it's been out for a week. i think you are free to discuss whatever you want.
5/13/2010 3:21:02 PM
i don't think cheadle added anything to it, but he didn't take away anything either

i, too, was distracted by the spraytan palms.and this movie was pretty disappointing. way too contrived both in plot and science fiction, even for iron man.
5/15/2010 12:09:35 PM
I saw it today, I thought it was better than the first one. More exciting and more action.
5/15/2010 10:49:50 PM
I saw tonight and enjoyed it a lot. I've never read any of the comics or anything though.
