It was funny as hell at the game last night though during the anthem. When the fans behind the bench yelled "RED", the Duke fans were looking around like "what in the hell was that"I still hate it...but that was entertaining.

i think saying "RED!" is good.I don't say "home of the wolfpack" though.
1/21/2009 1:04:47 PM
i can understand doing it at home games, but not away games.

I love the "Red" part of the Anthem, and enjoy the "Home of the Wolfpack" part at home games. I don't think it is good idea for road games, but it does not bother me.I think it is a fun tradition, and not a effort to disrespect the military or country. I have other beliefs and thoughts, about the national anthem, but I don't bring it to sporting events. I do appreciate our military efforts and service men/women.With that said...keep the tradition going. Its been going on since I visited in mid 90's and attended late 90's early 00's. III

It might not be an effort to be disrespectful, but there's enough evidence in this thread to see that it is.

I went to the Duke game last week and asked the guys next to me about the "O". They said it had no significance. My friend an I went to the UNC football game this year and yelled "RED" and "WOLFPACK" as loud as we could (we were in the pussy blue section). Yelling "wolfpack" just got them pumped up, but when we yelled "red", we had about 10 people in that section turn around and yell at us, with one of them yelling, "Shut the fuck up!" during the middle of the song...< Talk about being classy...

if congress can change the pledge of allegiance, then we can change a line in the first verse of the star-spangled banner

does this still go on at home games?

arbitrary patriotism is more fucking retarded than modifying a song to cheer on your college team.

The anthem is the solemn time before the game when you're supposed to slowly reach over and graze your friend's ass until they laugh. This goes for prayers, as well, unless you're seated. Then, you just place your hand firmly on their leg. Also, you should definitely keep your eyes open and look around to make faces at people.

YOU PEOPLE have no clue what you're talking about if you think NC State is somehow unique, disrespectful, or both. You need to see what the Blackhawks do. It's 100x more patriotic than a bunch of college students playing grabass during the anthem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9-Cm30iVlg

I'm British and have no bulldog in this fight, but how is singing the national anthem arbitrary patriotism? Its just a minute of your time for God's sake.[Edited on January 22, 2014 at 5:52 PM. Reason : ]

Technically, it's not arbitrary. It's perfunctory. And it's equally lame.

my .021. When I was at state, I yelled "red" and "wolfpack"2. Now that I am in the military, I don't do that anymore.3. I do not get offended, but I also know the school and traditions. And I'm sure some small part of my job is to make sure we all don't get killed for not standing perfectly at attention while kim jung un's portrait is raised above the crowd. I like the freedom to have a little fun, "red" and "wolfpack" are not disrespectful, then anthem is still honored, and really not an issue. It is way worse to keep walking and/or talk during the anthem than paying respect for 98% of the anthem. 4. If I knew nothing of the school, I would not be offended for yelling one word or changing "home of the ____" because its common in many sports venues.5. Yelling it at unc will be automatic trouble, because those bastards need anything they can to divert attention away from the sinking ship. Also, how dare they act "patriotic" and correct anyone about the anthem, they waste more tax payer money on bullshit degrees and spend more time writing about problems, bitching and complaining, instead of fixing problems. Who can support that crap hole of an institution where you act elite, but you really don't have a reason to be. The tarholes and their fans remind me of colonial england, false entitlement by the shitbag elite and supported by the trash of Europe screaming "god save the queen" as they handed over more and more to the shitbag elite... halleluiah, holy shit, where's the Tylenol.[Edited on January 22, 2014 at 8:12 PM. Who gives a shit? It's a sporting event. I go to watch one team score more points than another. I don't go to prove to the world how goddamn American I am.The entire exercise of tying sporting events with the military and demanding empty gestures of patriotism makes me want to jerk off to the first amendment, anyway. You know who I miss?
