wow way too slow

I really like what I saw out of mays with the minutes he played

Hopefully sid plays him more in the future

Horner should never play again, he really does nothing but show off his awesome tattoo and twiddle his thumbs

Costner was a beast

Stop with the fucking stupid turnovers jesus, we win this game easily if we control these

^^^wat?

farnold's a joke and julius should have played in his place coming down the stretch. but that's a minor complaint compared to benching our best players at the same time.

i dont know exactly how many minutes which players played, and i realy dont feel like looking, im too frustrated.

but it seemed like he had costner, fells, and mccauley on the bench for about half the time, when these are our main scoring threats. WTF

here costner is hot as fire and hes on the bench??? i dont get it

Bridget I've been a die-hard Wolfpack fan for a very long time. I'm probably one of the most die hard fans on here. Many can attest to that. I just think it's stupid complaining about the same old stuff until Sid can get his guys in here. We should be proud of how the team played overall. We've shown improvement since last year and could be undefeated right now if two of the better players in the college game didn't make clutch shots at the end. The future looks better with the more athletic players that we will soon be bringing in. Let's face it McCauley and Fells (perhaps even Costner) will be gone next year. You can't sacrifice developing younger players in favor of instant success. What if Fells or McCauley go down with an injury? Wouldn't it be good to have some players step up and not have the deer in headlights look on their face when they are forced into bigger roles. You'll end up getting a similar result to last year's game against Carolina at their place. Keeping McCauley and Costner fresh will help us at the end of games when they have more energy than the players they are going up against. Remember in Lowe's first year the starters were playing 35+ minutes per game out of necessity and what did it get us? A bunch of near wins b/c our players were too fatigued to finish out the game strong and even a few blowout losses.

"this is your first game and you are questioning how the team is run? Give me a break"

it is the first game i have seen, i read box scores and recaps and watch the gamecasts. my dad gives me pretty detailed descriptions of the games also. and, of course, i saw plenty last year.

Quote :
"Mays had 4 fouls at the end of the game. So you risk him getting fouled out and only have Degand or a banged up Gonzalez to come in and run the point if the game were to go to overtime?"

YOU PLAY. TO WIN. THE GAME!
what is the point of saving someone for OT in a tie game with 30 seconds to go? they were in the bonus too so if he fouled somebody they would be shooting.

Quote :
"Are you claiming he played too much or not enough because 32 minutes is a pretty good workload, right?"

no. 32 minutes for your best player in a competitive game is not enough. especially when your best player is playing like he was tonight and double especially (that is a thing right?) when his backup is dennis fucking horner

Quote :
"you don't let your bench develop in games you have to win. you play your best players."

word

what does quality of players have to do with his ability to coach? i mean sure, he would have a better team if he had better players, who wouldnt? i think it is very important that he identify and learn from his own coaching shortcomings while they are clear. with great players, his coaching errors may be overlooked b/c a great player saves his hide. i want sidney to learn now so that one day he wont make the same mistakes in the ncaa tourney.

Quote :
"We should be proud of how the team played overall. "

i am very proud of the way the team played, overall (even horner's mother isnt proud of the way he plays). i simply feel that if our best player(s) had been in the game more or, at least, if our worst players had played less, we would have had a better chance to win.

but then this is all just my opinion.

Brass Monkey hit the nail on the head. This team is showing improvement. The arena was awesome for being over a break and we showed appreciation for our history. All in all this game was fun and was won on a couple fortunate threes (#1 hit some lucky ones). Last year a team with this good of guard play would have destroyed us.

Same shit, different year. This team/program will not be going anywhere until an ACC-caliber PG shows up with the ability to make plays on offense and defend someone on the other end. (Same can be said for SG with Fells playing the 3 now).

just to clarify, i am not saying fire sid.

i desperately want sid to succeed and win, but only a small part of that is his place in school history. i want to succeed b/c i want state to win and i know a coaching carousel is very unlikely to achieve that end.

however, i am not above pointing out weaknesses.

as lowe said in the presser, he called the right D on that last play but degand made a mistake and went the wrong way on the screen. now you can say it is on degand b/c he screwed up. but you could also say that the coach had just watched that player his two 3's on Degand and should have had in a player in whom he had more confidence. the evidence says this is mays b/c he started mays.

he started mays for more than his confidence in his ability to guard one guy, i'm sure.

i don't think it slipped his mind that mays was available.

I've got to say the fans that came to the game were pretty awesome, given the circumstances. That place was rocking toward the end and everybody was jumping and yelling, there were very few possessions where I wasn't yelling the whole game

losses like that are the most crushing, and damn frustrating when there were so many avoidable errors and slip-ups that easily would have been the difference

imagine, ncsu basketball getting good press for once, HAH

I hope they can get it together because they're getting so close, they could be much better than last year, but I'm afraid this is gonna be another damn season of almosts

This team has not had a great point guard in a long time. Even Atsur was a more of a two. I just dont understand why it has been so tuff to land a fantastic 1 over the years.

yea i was sitting in my dad's seat tonight and i am going to miss my student status (my student ID is finally reaching its expiration date!). most of the alum are so dead, it drives me nuts. i dont understand why you pay all that money to come see a game and then just sit there quietly the whole time. i'm not saying they dont have the right to do it, i just dont get it.

Was there at the game. Had a great time. Too bad the results had me saying it sucks to be an NC State fan over and over again.

We must have some really crappy guards. You'd think guards would be Lowe's specialty...well, it sure aint showin.

I'm most frustrated at the fact that we struggled so much against a zone press. Guard A dribbles to half court, stops, passes it across to the other guy to the point we got nailed for one backcourt violation and were probably close to another 3-4 more. At least Ferg had enough sense to actually dribble through the press to the middle and then run the offense from there. Some of the passes also had me frustrated. I know I don't play at the college level, but even I feel that I could make a 50 foot pass without sailing it over a guy's head.

Costner was a beast, and that's always good to see. I'm one of Costner's biggest critics, and he came up big. McCauley was a huge disappointment. They practically run with 4 guys and a big, and McCauley was still ineffective.

It still sucks to be a state fan, but a Papa Johns win would make me feel better.

Really, no it's not the same at all. We went three years without a great QB. We had one in Rivers and we have one now in Wilson. But we've went decades without a great PG.

**Not counting Atsur, because he was a SG that was forced to PG Sid's first year.

with less than 10 minutes left in the 2nd half, I looked up at the scoreboard, and it the total number of points scored among all players on the court was like 15, no joke. No one with more than 7 was in the game... At that moment, I knew we were in trouble.

when ferguson was the most mobile and best looking player in our offensive lineup I knew it was going to be bad

a lot of guys have a bad habit of just standing there with their hands up, like 'pass me the ball,' when they're not even open or even fighting to get open

the game's not gonna come to you guys, it's like 'lets all stand in a circle on the perimeter and wait for our point guard to create an opportunity for us, oh wait

foul on the inbound and get the ball back with ~20seconds and at most a 2pt deficit

i expect an ironed-out rotation for ACC play, sadly that comes after the big nonconf games. its good to see people stepping up off the bench but how much can you really tell when your playing 12

^Yeah and there were idiots on here and in the stands that said that was a good win for us.

My points:

1) Sid's subs suck....it's ok against Lipscomb and UNCG but not Davidson and Marquette. I mean hell we only play 3 good teams OOC.

2) Mays was the best PG by far today and has looked good and is improving. You don't keep him out so you have in OT what the fuck kind of thinking is that?

"I'm personally proud of the team and how they played. They fought hard, got rebounds, and shot well (I think 55% in the 1st half). So we lost to the #25 team in the nation and a preseason Top 15 team that just so happens to have one of the best trio of guards in college basketball. We knew coming in that they would have their way with our guards. This team has improved since last year. I come on here expecting some comments on how hard the team played on national television, and all I see is a bunch of crying and complaining. Hopefully Favors watched the game, saw how good the atmosphere was despite it being the holidays and how we worked it inside often. We have two more games to work out any last kinks before we go down to Florida. Let's rally behind the team and maybe give them the confidence to get to 10 wins before conference play begins."

Sid's substitution packages work... say if we have a 2nd team of Lo Brown, Howell, Wall, Favors, and I dunno CJ Williams I guess, my point is, we don't have to talent to run these substitution sets yet. Our style of play is more run and gun it seems and it requires more subs... but bottom line we need Favors and Wall.

^Exactly. We don't have the talent to be substituting like this so Sid doesn't need to be doing it...you need to coach with what you have! That said we are playing much better than last year and hopefully these close losses will help us later on in the season, if that cliche' has any truth to it at all
