1/31/2009 3:47:10 PM
focus on the negative consequences of not doing the chores, rather than the immediate unpleasantry
1/31/2009 3:47:34 PM
YOU GO FIND YOUR OWN THREAD IN WHICH TO ANSWER QUESTIONSjust kidding man
1/31/2009 3:48:59 PM

1/31/2009 3:52:50 PM
can you field dress a squirrel? if so, I would like some pointers. I have some big as squirrels in my yard and I would like to shoot a couple of them
1/31/2009 3:53:58 PM
i've done a couplesharp knife is important with any type of dressing/cleaning. wet the squirrels first because the dry fur will stick to the meat and is a pain to get off.cut him around the base of the tail on his belly side and cut right on through the tail bone, but not through the skin on the top side. step on the tail and pull up on the back legs and the skin will usually pull off right on down to the front legs or so. work the skin off the front legs down to the feet and work the skin off the neck up to the head. break the front feet off. a combination of cutting, twisting, and pulling will remove the head. skin the back legs down to the feet and break off the feet. split his belly and pull out the guts. wash him out.

I am thinking squirrel stew. any other suggestions?
1/31/2009 4:08:42 PM
pan fry it, then make a gravy. have it with some rice. rabbit is exceptionally good this way.[Edited on January 31, 2009 at 4:11 PM. Reason : simmer it in the gravy for a while. it'll tender up]
1/31/2009 4:10:52 PM
what should be my drink of choice tonite?
1/31/2009 4:11:57 PM
Yeah, I need to go out to my girl's house if I want to shoot rabbit. She gets a ton of them since she has a garden. I get one or 2 here every now and then but they are small. But I get a ton of fatass squirrels. I have my grandmother's recipe for squirrel pot pie (pretty much like chicken and dumplings but with squirrel instead of chicken) so I think I am going to try that.
1/31/2009 4:14:55 PM
^^in heaven, there is no beerthat's why we drink it here^sounds good. build some rabbit boxes and set them in her garden. you will have delicious fat rabbits sans lead.[Edited on January 31, 2009 at 4:16 PM. Reason : .][Edited on January 31, 2009 at 4:17 PM. Reason : and she'll be happy cause the rabbits ain't eating her hard work]
1/31/2009 4:15:43 PM
But on a side note, I had a fucking turkey chillin' in my back yard a couple weeks ago. And I do not live in the country at all. I am smack dab in the middle of Greensboro, about 10 minutes from downtown. It was crazy.[Edited on January 31, 2009 at 4:18 PM. Reason : a]
1/31/2009 4:17:39 PM
not surprising in the least. urban populations of critters explode because we can't hunt in the city limits. some places have opened bow seasons in certain areas of city limits[Edited on January 31, 2009 at 4:19 PM. Reason : shoot the damn turkey. turkey season is just around the corner][Edited on January 31, 2009 at 4:19 PM. Reason : you're sure it was wild, right?]
1/31/2009 4:18:54 PM
i would think there is beer in heaven. I mean spending your eternal life without beer? Not something I wanna do!
1/31/2009 4:19:33 PM
I tried to take a picture of it but my dog barked and it took off. I never knew those big bitches could fly so well. It flew up on my neighbors house and chilled for a few seconds then took off up the block.
1/31/2009 4:20:02 PM
not the baptist heaven i learned about [Edited on January 31, 2009 at 4:20 PM. Reason : yeah, it was wild if it flew lol]
1/31/2009 4:20:03 PM
oh yeah, it was definitely a Turkey. I see them all the time when I go up north to PA. It was just odd seeing one down here, and in my back yard no less. If I wasn't scared that my neighbor would call the cops, I would have brought out the 20 gauge and taken a shot
1/31/2009 4:22:21 PM
hahaha well the Lutheran heaven has it all.
1/31/2009 4:24:36 PM
NC has plenty of turkeys. i see them pretty often.coolest turkey encounter ever was when we were drifting down the trent river catching rockfish and we saw one roosting in a tree. he flew across the river right above our boat and pitched in a tree on the other side. it was cool as shit.
1/31/2009 4:24:37 PM
My girl lives out in Whitsett on an old 6 acre farm that she got a steal on. That's where I go whenever I want to shoot guns and shit. Is there anything I can do to bait turkey onto her land?
1/31/2009 4:28:11 PM
yes, corn, etc. however:
1/31/2009 4:34:20 PM

1/31/2009 4:35:33 PM

1/31/2009 4:36:04 PM

1/31/2009 4:39:22 PM
they like corn too[Edited on January 31, 2009 at 4:41 PM. Reason : you should really build some rabbit boxes man. i used to love trapping rabbits]
1/31/2009 4:40:34 PM
Should I let my hair grow out?
1/31/2009 4:50:39 PM

When fishing, what's the best way to get crickets out the little container without having your hand covered in those yucky jumpy things?
2/9/2009 12:46:19 PM
i pick the cricket cage up and kinda hit it on the bottom of the boat or whatever to where they're all in the bottom. then i reach in and grab one really quick. if you're slow they'll be crawling up your arm and you'll lose some crickets.also, you just have to accept that you're gonna lose some. they're fairly cheap so it's not that big a deal to me. i figure if he's smart enough to get away he deserves it.

please explain your feelings on red eye gravy in 20-50 words
2/9/2009 12:51:11 PM
red eye gravy is delicious when prepared properly, which is pretty easy. you just fry the ham and add some water to the drippings. i like to add some to my grits or sop it up with a biscuit. it's good on scrambled eggs too. the only problem i have with country ham and red eye gravy is that it makes me thirsty for the rest of the day, so i never eat it before going fishing or hunting.[Edited on February 9, 2009 at 12:56 PM. Reason : 79 words. sorry.]
